Ricardo! You have no idea how inspiring and helpful this video is. I find it hard to structure my own mind to create a case study of any of my projects, but with this video, I have a better insight into how to structure and present a project. It's crazy to see the amount of work that goes into your process and presentation. You are definitely an example to follow! (And a RU-vid channel :D)
This is such a kind comment, thank you so much!!! 😊 I'm hoping to create more case study videos in the future for different types of projects because I know that crafting them from scratch can be really daunting. I'm so happy that the content is being helpful, and it motivates me to keep making more (especially on the days when I'm really tired from work). 😌
We will probably be at *600 subs* by the end of the day ya'll! 🙏🏼✨Many of you have been asking about case studies so hopefully you find this video helpful. Now if your'e ready to apply for internship or just kickstart your UX career, check out my UX playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLBbz9RiTtMUIuQQkJPKaM-C5pj1bsHsHw
That coffee is exactly how I order mine except I never thought to do sugar free and I do oatmilk! Love your content btw and wow you were at 600 subs at this time! I'm a freshly certified UXD putting together my case study. Going to pitch this to the UXD dept at my employer because I'm not having luck finding work externally LOL!
oh man, how amazing it would be to work for google. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. So many videos that end up being huge nothing burgers. You may be a small channel now but keep inspiring us and you'll blow up in no time!
You are one of the shines in my life! You're helping so much! I understand you with my basic English lol. P.S. You're singing my song haha You already have my inscription. xx
Pleaseee make a future video highlighting the design process using the booklet you created!! I think it would be really helpful for people starting out :))
Thanks a lot Ricardo for all of your amazing contents 🙏 I see lot of effort and work behind these videos and scripts so I truly hope your channel gains the recognition it deserves. Keep going its actually reaaallly helpful for folks like me. And I loooove your coffee trip it's just so relatable 😻☕ What do you think about having a portfolio that has strong identity ? I built mine to showcase my artistic personality so I feel like the IT recruiters are biased and don't see in me an interesting candidate :((
Thank you so much! It's great to hear that what I'm making is resonating with folks, even the crazy parts like the coffee trip 😅, but especially because I'm making these videos in my spare time (which is not always easy with my day job) but the fact that they're making a difference in someone's life is definitely motivating so thank you for sharing that. 💛 About your portfolio, I think it's definitely important to show your personality through your portfolio, especially nowadays when most people use similar templates to showcase their work. Just make sure to not sacrifice UX principles in favor of aesthetics (like readability, usability, etc) so a happy medium between both would be a recipe for success. You got this! 💪
Yee for content creators like you, you're always gonna have a public that likes or dislikes your content no matter what you do. So the best you could do is to be yourself and create something that vibes with you and make you happy. Then the audience can only feel your vibe and passion through your videos 🌞💃 Thanks a lot for your super super helpful insights 💜 i feel more confident now about my portfolio. And yes ofc I'm very conscious of the ux principles so i keep iterating on my case studies to find the perfect balance. I was just feeling very vulnerable to show a part of me to HR public and apprehended their reaction. Thanks again 💜
🎶“I’ve been dreaming about flying for a long timeee. “🎶🎶🎶 yes! I love Iniko! And your videos have been so helpful!! Thank you & will update when I accept my first offer as UX/UI Designer 💜💜💜
Thank you! I'm glad you found the content helpful and enjoyed the coffee trip. I'll had to add some more random laid back moments in future videos 😌 🙃.
OMG thank you!!! 🥹 I was definitely hustling hard at Adobe and the crazy thing is that nobody was supervising me, all of that was self-directed / initiated. 🤣
I have recelty come acrosss your videos, and I love what you do so much! I am fairly new on how to start in the process of creating a Design portfolio much less getting started on putting together a case study. I would like to get an internship in UX and Desgin as well, so seeing your portfolio and watching your videos definitely inspires me to be more patient with my learning! By any chance, do you have a video talking about getting your first internship (adobe) and developing and cultivating the skills and case studies you have created?
Thank you so much for the positive feedback! I'm really happy that the videos are helping you get a sense of how to start your UX journey. 😊 I don't currently have a video specifically talking about how I learned the skills used to put the Adobe case study together, but perhaps I can make a series about all the projects that came beforehand. Thanks for the suggestion and good luck with your internship search!
I'll be honest, as a dedicated super fan, I'm a little bit shocked with the content in this video. It's October and at no moment did you add pumpkin spice to your order. 🎃☕
I would never in my life put myself to go on an adventure for UX/UI case study, too complicated for my passion. You deserve the job. Seems like google hires UX/UI candidates who knows a lot about UX/UI and need to prove it.
What are your thoughts about making a video case study for our internship project? Tbh I hate putting together a traditional written case study. And I feel like no one reads them… honest thoughts on a video, kinda like a hackathon presentation but more on the UX process… like 2-5 minutes
I love this idea! I've actually been recording some of my keynotes at work to facilitate remote collaboration and global timezones. I actually got the idea from a video we made for an internal hackathon so this is a great tip and would also give hiring managers a glance into your personality. Also, it would help you stand out! 😎
Congrats on 600 - now - 1K subscribers! Would you recommend having two websites, one for recruiters that is very straight forward and one for hiring managers that is more graphic?
Thank you!!! That's an interesting idea. What I would suggest is to keep the portfolio website simple and use it to showcase your visual and graphic skills primarily through your case study designs. Treat the website as a canvas for your work. If you think of it like a gallery, the website should take a step back and let your work shine, without drawing too much attention to itself. Another option is to create a more graphic-oriented slide deck for your portfolio presentation during the interview process. This approach would be especially effective if your audience is design-centric. However, it's not necessary because you can simply guide them through your website. Nonetheless, it offers a more focused alternative and requires less effort than creating an entirely separate website. I hope this helps! ✨
I love your energy Ricardo!!! I am looking to step into product design and really love your videos -- immediately subscribed :) Your videos been so helpful and fun to watch. Also hope this isn't creepy but found you on LinkedIn and saw we overlapped at Penn for a year! One question: how did you go about getting an internship after graduation? I feel like most internships require you are return to school after the internship. Anyway, truly appreciate the effort you're putting to teach us about getting into PD. Keep it up!!!!
OMG thank you! It's so great to have you here :D And yesss, go Quakers!!! I think I mentioned this in another comment but I had to do all of my internships during school for that very reason. Some places hire interns that are not enrolled in school but most require you to be a student. Have you considered an apprenticeship? I have a video about it here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5Y23epJPT6M.html
@@rahpstudio omg so sorry!!! I thought I lost one of my comments so just re-wrote the same thing smh but realized it must have been on another video. Sorry to make you answer it twice. Thanks so much xx
So what is the difference between a portfolio (case study) for an internship and a regular UX job application (if any)? Great videos! Super helpful as always
Great question! I would say that the main principles apply for both internship and regular job applications (things like storytelling, explaining your design rationale, etc). However, I would say that would change is the content that you would focus on. For example, for entry level roles you'll most likely be working on tactical projects under a broader strategy so you're case study would most likely reflect that type of work whereas for a more senior designer, the content would be more focused on strategy, management, influence, etc. So tldr; the format of the case studies will probably retain a similar structure but what you choose to highlight within the study should match the role / level that you're applying for (just like your resume). Hope this helps! :)
Haha no worries, it's totally normal to be terrified! I was terrified when I left Architecture for UX design right after school but, with hard work and grit, you can make anything happen. Keep your chin up! 😎
Hey, what platform did you use to create your portfolio website? Im a design student from India, currently using Adobe Portfolio but as my degree comes to an end I need to start moving it to another platform.
Can you make a video about how to determine if a company has a proper design department or not, before going to the job? I recently applied to a UI/UX internship that basically pasted its job description from Chatgpt, and when I went there it turned out they didn't have a proper design dept and 90% of the workforce works remote. I was made to commute almost 1 hour daily to work and sit for 8 hours for a 1-hour work. A video or some proper guidance would be much appreciated!
hahaha I'm glad you enjoyed the coffee trip! I'm definitely feeling more comfortable talking to the camera. Also, great to hear you're finding the content helpful because there's a lot more to come - so happy to have you here! 💛
