I've been a hiker/camper for over 40yrs and worn out multiple tent's through the year's. An out of the blue phone call one day to go camping left me in a predicament. My tent was torn and had no time to fix it, so I went onto gumtree and a local was selling a Vango Mirage 300 2nd hand for £100 so I purchased it. I've owned this tent for the past 6 year's put it through all weathers and it has YET to let me down. It is by far the best tent I've ever owned and I'm searching to buy another of the same make. Not the lightest tent to hike with but knowing I'm going to be dry and have plenty of space to stretch out and cook in means it's worth the extra weight. Vango produced a fantastic bit of kit here. I hope your's lasts as long👍👍
@@davidbuchanan3374 very cool David. Thanks for the comment. Vango have been around a long time. I was out with a mate of mine who had a 16 year old Vango Banshee. Still a battle tank. And yes. Not the lightest but unreal build quality. Not sure the ultra light gear will last as long, I could be totally wrong but only time will tell. Martin.
Excellent walk through mate, looks like a slingfin portal 1 copy but I don't mind that at all much cheaper. The strength of it this thing with trekking poles should be great. Please show us some windy treks in it

Wouldnt touch a 1 man , people take more gadgets these days , 2 man tents weigh almost nothing more than the 1 man tents , who today leaves anything outside their tents in winter # whatever time of year ?
Looks like a great tent, other than I just don't like inner pitch first tents! Heavy rain will saturate your inner before you can get the outer put on! I just don't understand why manufacturers design tents this way! I like tents that have inner attached to outer, and pitch in one go! The idea is to be a dry shelter from the get go when erecting! Other than that looks like a great tent for moderate weather conditions. Thankyou for sharing. Liked and Subscribed.
Yeah I agree with you. It's an odd way to design but they are promoting an inner pitch only camp also. So for really hot nights you can feel more out in the air. But I suppose for UK and Ireland weather. Not the best set up. Thanks for the comment and subbed you back. Looking forward to checking out your content. Keep them coming. Yes, I have an MSR Hubba Hubba which works the same way and I did end up with a wet interior which I then had to dry. There is a way of attaching the assembled poles to the flysheet on that tent.

I just recently bought the Radon UL 2. So far I love it, I tested it last time in the rain and windy conditions. So far so good. However I need to get used to the inner pitch first.

Nice looking tent Martin 👌 Not overly expensive either considering the spec and all the additional features. Some will criticise the inner pitch first but it definitely gives you a more stable and taut interior, especially with that tension system. In the Helm 1 this reduces the available space inside. This tent maximises internal space. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with it on the hills 😊
For the value, and a weight of 1.2kg it's such a brilliant introduction to light weight back packing. Will be getting this out soon. I have 4 more tents to review.

Looks a nice tent, still want the xenon over this personally as i want the extra space. Vango seem to be making great tents at a low price, they are really impressive at the moment.
the Radon UL1 is basically a complete knock-off from Sea2summit Alto TR1, but cheaper and a definitively nicer color :) the Alto TR1 has a bigger inside space, because it uses one vestibule for inside area! Further, I figured that Vangos'zips are tending to get stuck in comparison to e.g. Sea2Summit hi-end YKK... I use the Alto TR1 quite often, it's great for one person with nearly now storage, but the semi-freestanding is always a pain in the @#$, and so will be the Radon UL1! I also use the Vango F10 Nexus UL2 or the Marmont Tungsten UL 1P, which are both selfstanding... a big difference in setting up and finding the perfectly flat area! BTW: I like your idea with the tracking poles added! have to try... :)
Class review Martin but the tent is not for me even though I ❤️ Vango! Deal breaker for me is the inner pitch first. I just have a thing for outer first to prevent the inner getting wet. Great innovation though with the hiking pole thing and that new internal system, love that!
@@IrelandOutdoors well pal.. great to hear from you. Yep that's one downside alright... I had a Nordisk Svalbard once and that was inner pitch 1st as well. I honestly thought I'd hate that but never really effected me. I suppose choose you weather wisely. But outer pitch 1st makes sense in our weather. The xenon is incredible.. that's one you should look at. Thanks for the comment man.
Thanks for the review! It looks an interesting tent. I bought a vango f10 Xenon ul2 on your review. The only thing that annoys me with that tent is that it's 93 cm head height when it should be 100 cm.. My head is just rubbing on it, which annoys me. And this one seems the same height. Just a few more cm would make all the difference. I pitched it yesterday and was pulling my hair out wondering if I'm doing something wrong 😢

Great video, thanks for sharing it. Vango have definitely upped their game and technically this is a great tent... but inner pitch first so that is a big no no for me.
Yep that seems to be the general consensus. A lot of people don't like inner pitch 1st but to be honest there is only seconds between the outer and the inner pitch. Plus you do have the option of just pitching inner for an open camp night. ☺️
The dark green colour is good and it looks a bit like my Sea to Summit Alto TR1 Plus which is lighter weight than this one and also has more room inside too I think. I can also take the inner down from inside the fly sheet if it’s raining and pack it away. The Vango one is cheaper though but as I already have a good 1 man ultralight tent I wouldn’t buy it.
I must check out the Alto. Would love to review it. I have so many tents now I may start raffling to fund others. Sea to Summit has always peaked my interest. Thanks for the comment byou have me researching now 🫣🤣 for shame.
Yeah the quality is definitely there with the zips and material and although I did find some things about it I didn’t like, there was more I liked about it than didn’t. It’s going on the TMB again with me in a few weeks time because for a poled semi freestanding tent you can shake the grass out of each morning it’s just so good on the weight. Very roomy for a 1 man tent so check it out. I’ve got the Plus version which has greater HH.
Very nice review, but the tent is nothing special except for the weight. Takes a long time to pick especially in rainy conditions (not the skeleton design) and what do you do when you pitch this tent on a rainy day (all inner tents will be wet) I can imagine this tent in the storm 😉 Have a cool adventure
I've got this and in rain in Scotland I put the inner real quick then flung the outer over, with the inner being solid on top that helps and so ok. I like the taut inner you get with inner pitch first...
Thanks for the comment. Don't think it will be longer to pitch than the helium but yes, the inner pitch 1st is not the best for our weather. But I had the Nordisk Svalbard which is an inner pitch 1st as well and it's not as big of an issue as I thought. Only a few seconds between inner and outer.
@@MoosebearAdventures Inner pitch first isn't really much of a problem in the rain there is an easy solution that keeps the inner dry while the fly goes over the poles first .and reverse it is taking the tent down in the rain .
@@badaltitude3598 an MSR is one tent I have never used yet. I must get cracking on it. They make lovely tents behave looked at a few but from what I remember the weight was always putting me off. I'll some research. Cheers for the comment.

Oh no I hope Vango isn't moving towards inner-pitch-first tents. The reason I tend to prefer northern European tents compared to US ones is that they are more often outer-pitch-first. Inner-first tents are an unholy pain to pitch and take down in the pouring/driving rain.
