In this video I turn Natural Edge Vessel from a root of a Yew tree , It was quite a challenging turn with all the dirt etc that you find in root balls and there was a massive amount of hand sanding involved but Its a stunning piece to look at and full of character .. I finished it with danish oil ..

@@AndyPhillipWoodturning 100% agree. I'm not creative in the slightest and have an odd dislike of earthy tones, but the colours in that wood are unbelievable! Out of interest, how much, typically, would a piece like that sell for? PS This isn't a "muh price" type of question. I'm always amazed when I watch genuine craftsmen produce a piece of work and, more so, the amount of time that is put into it. I work in tech and don't even want to think about the amount of money the company I work for would charge for that amount of time D:

Andy i am a retired Nurse who did a very very small amount of woodturning in my early 40s and i loved it but it was what most people think when you say woodturning, stair spindles! I have been watching several of your videos and i am truly in awe. You give a whole new meaning to wood turning/carving and it is absolutely beautiful. I have fallen back in love with wood because of you but i am now 70 and know it wouldn't matter what equipment i had i could never dream of producing what you produce. You are a wood artist. Congratulations. You are incredibly talented and i wish i could afford one of your pieces as it would have pride of place in my living room. Keeeep turning!

This one just makes me realize that there are skill levels in turning that it is useless for me to aspire to. 99 ways for that to go wrong for every one that resulted in such success, and yet you make it look easy. Absolutely astonishing craftsmanship in this work, and the wood itself came through with stunning colors and texture. World class work.

The profound impression evoked by this remarkable Edge Vessel reminded me of Immanuel Velikovsky, book "Worlds in Collusion." However, it transcends the terrestrial realm and instead alludes to a cosmic ballet of celestial bodies, wherein stars and galaxies engage in a mesmerizing dance of collision. This exquisite composition appears to have successfully encapsulated the resplendent tumultuousness of the cosmos.

one of the most beautiful results I have seen. A metaphor for life…beauty in the ugly, or going through a process to get to the best part of life etc. I would have that on my display any day, beautiful grain.

the before and after is just jaw dropping. I would have loved to see the holes filled with epoxy resin. But It's a matter of taste. But also ensure that it can be used, not just look pretty.

Thank you. I never tire of watching an artist at work and waiting to see what transpires. I think that is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen made. It should be in a museum so that many people can see it and admire how beautiful wood is and how wonderful that there are craftspeople who can use modern machinery to bring out the beauty in the world. Thank you again I shall enjoy watching this video time and again

maybe this is just my own ignorance of wood, but I'm not sure I would've looked at the finished product and instantly recognized it as wood. it almost looks like a stone or rock formation. it's absolutely gorgeous with the myriad of colors and shapes. i'm happy I stopped to watch this at 0200 in the morning. thanks for sharing!!!

I remember when I was a little girl there are many carpenters roaming in our streets and always carrying a sack of their tools like hammer , hand saw. Randa basoola etc I watched them long to work like mending our "charpais, tables chairs and so many other jobs which they used to did by their hands. I realy love to watch.
