After watching Tarans goodbye video I like to think that he told Linus he was leaving to go independently on RU-vid and Linus said “move him up in the schedule, we have to set him up for success.”
@@_Idolin i saw that video and that's what prompted me to comment and return to this video. On camera people show their best selves, if the end result is a disrespectful interaction between Linus and Taran on camera; then most likely it is worse off camera. So in a way Taran's ego got inflated and his abrasive personality as show here in the video, got the best of him.
It's both hilarious and endearing how all the longest serving employees at LTT treat Linus like a close friend. Trash talking him, throwing stuff at him etc...

The amount of tasteful insubordination from Taran and the banter between him and Linus is the kind I enjoy from all these Extreme Tech Upgrades. I just love seeing how people react to the invasive species that is their boss upon their homes.
Some people say he quit after he got his upgrade, I think linus made his upgrade the next one in a kind of "no you won't get away before I give you this upgrade" move as a reward for all the years working together, I mean look at the goodbye video, and you can see linus at the verge of crying half the time
OR they shoot this episode way way ahead even before taran announced his resignation, they never mentioned or any hint that taran will leave lmg so this video isn't shoot recently. Like saying directly this is goodbye present or something like that in the video.

You can really tell how special Taran is to the team, linus just gets him whatever TF he wants, lol. He's earned it to be so particular about everything.
I admire Taran because at first glance from this video he seems annoying asl but it's clear he's a solid link in the chain that is LMG so he's clearly doing at least a few things right.
I haven’t been an LMG fan as long as some of you, but this has become my favourite series. I genuinely love seeing Linus interact with the team in a less scripted environment.
He’s the classic Prima Dona creative perfectionist, but he doesn’t have a Mac or wear turtlenecks. I’d love to see a Taran and Dennis podcast. It would be a beautiful disaster.
I love that he bought an IKEA desktop, but didn't get the corresponding frame for the desk, and doesn't like how unstable it is. I have that desk, with the correct frame, and I have two 34" ultrawides, a laptop, docking station, and xlr mic with boom arm all on the desk, and it doesn't wobble in the least.
Agree that it should be quite obvious that the plate on its own is not sturdy.... But I would also not be surprised if Taran had a very particular reason for not using the frame. Like that the frame blocks his armrests or he wanted to recycle the legs. He also said that it was temporary and whatever he said the next thing was going to be, it sounded more sturdy.
True. I just build mine yesterday and the top is some wobbly shit in it self. Hey btw. How is the top handling the boom arm mount etc? I’m afraid mine will make a mark when fully extended and what about adding a monitor arm? 🤔

That new blue table top looks like a BEKANT table top. It’s designed for the BEKANT underframe which has additional structural support underneath so it doesn’t bow and bend. I would not recommend your combination long term. We use these in the office and are plenty strong enough. -From an IKEA customer service center worker.
Now the question is why did they only find this out from a RU-vid comment? It's not great for the company either if the customers buy only half of what they need. Fix it.
The IKEA bekant tabletop is actually supposed to be used with a metal frame. I am not sure why they sell it separately but with the metal frame it is very sturdy and also has wire management.
There is even a video on YT where someone tests how much weight they can handle with 5 legs. By the end of the video he basicly jumps around on it and nothing happens. He has to do a full on bodyslam to break it.
I love that Taran is so unapologetically himself through this whole video. From blurring EVERYTHING to throwing the “fluffy” at Linus, he don’t care lmao
He's just like a friend of mine. This just makes life more complicated and in some cases worse. I've been (properly) setting up VR for my friend (he was using a pretty janked setup before) this weekend.. noticing that it has strange major microstutters.. hunting it down to him using some betaversion of Win11.. took quite some convincing to get him to install a known good instance of Win10 because he was complaining that he wasn't progressing in BeatSaber and i told him this was probably because of those immensly irritating microstutters.. he was saying he wouldn't notice them .. but guess what.. after reinstalling Win10 he was immediately feeling better in Beatsaber busting his Highscores stating it's "somehow" much smoother now. + other stability issues gone Being quirky is NOT a good thing by default.
You know when I first saw this video, I was confused as to why He'd need a separate work-from-home computer and a gaming PC now that LTT went back to their offices. Taran have been working with Linus since the early days. Its likely that Linus rescheduled to ensure he gets his upgrade before he left, which he totally deserves anyway. Not sure why some are complaining here.
20:38 Teran, I use the same desktop as you and it's rock-solid. The reason why yours' bouncing and unstable is because you don't use the right stand to give maximum support to the top. If you use IKEA's accompanying 'Bekant' stand (which is in the same series of the top), there's will be more support in the centre and the whole desk can hold up to 100kg. There will also be a nice net underneath to hold cables. It's not that IKEA product sucks; it's sometimes people don't assemble it according to the designer's thought (though they try to milk from you for sure).
@@FranciscoOyola94 No, it's not DLC. They have 'series', where different parts or items are designed to go best together under the same design language. Teran picked the Bekant office desktop, but he didn't pick the Bekant stand which has metal support across the centre. You can see in the video there's already pre-drilled holes in the back of that desktop. Those are for the matching stand and cable management.
@@accidentian Yeah, I'm literally typing this at work with my computer on an IKEA desk. I thought I had outsmarted them by buying a Trotten table top with Adils legs but it turns out that I was just dumb. The desk isn't meant to be drilled the way I did, and while moving the desk two of the legs almost came out. These are the exact same legs that he had there, so he probably had the same thought process as me.
@@accidentian I also have the Bekant and while yes, it's rock solid in the middle, it also transfers vibrations way too much. My monitors wobble when i type too hard.
@@meeuyou I mean you can outsmart IKEA to not be ripped off, but you can't outsmart physics. So in yours and Teran's case, at least some solid-enough metal bars should be crossed and fused together, and be put between the legs and the top. This way the centre pressure on the top will be better passed to the legs -- which is exactly what the matching stands does.

Linus is going to be suffering PTSD after this build. Flashbacks may include: "I'll just run them at a lower resolution." "Where did these come from? (Hit in face)" and "Why are your hands so clammy?" LOL Considering that Taran is concerned about the heat output of a PC system and having to cool it with the AC I'm confused why he's going to game on the old rig with a 980 Ti with a less efficient power supply? It will use more electricity to play the same games and put out more heat, thus forcing him to use the AC to cool, so he'd be generating more heat and using more electricity all around by not gaming on the new rig...
@@power-max At full load, sure, it can be. But the 980 Ti uses 250w at load while the 3070 only uses 220w. Also, the 3070 is more efficient being able to do more calculations while using less power when running the same games. The 3070 is the better choice to reduce both heat generation and power consumption.
It's also kind of wasteful to have that second PC. Someone else could use that 980 to upgrade their current system. Or Taran could sell the entire old computer (after some cleaning).
@@sebastianjost I agree. A 980 Ti can still run games in 1080p with little issues. That could be a nice upgrade for someone who is still using a 700 series.
