3:14 I hear you. That's why it's very competitive and difficult even locally to break into the Philippine music scene because the bar is pretty high. You have to have an edge, a uniqueness to add to very good vocals because it's easy to find a pretty good singer around. SB19 mentioned in the Zach Sang show that they were not 'the best' and they mean that vocally because they know there are too many great singers in the Philippines to compare them with. Their edge is that they sing AND dance at the same time very well, which is not usual in the Philippine music scene.
True. Most of the successful artists here are either exceptional vocalists (i.e. Lea Salonga, Morisette) or singer-songwriters and bands who make their own songs. Being a good singer is not enough to break through the market.
I also think this is why there is special appreciation to singer-songwriters because good singers are pretty common but being songwriters brings something new to the table
Thank Efra and Waleska. Efra is right it is so hard to impress Filipinos in singin because there are many good singers and we have taken for granted many really really good talents.
Filipino's doesnt rely in one type music. we really love Bands, betlers, R and B singers, massive rap community, solo artists, balladeers, western musics, kpop, Ppop etc etc. the competittion is really high since as young as 5 we are participating in local singing contests.
Though the vocalist vocal style can be easily copied, sunkissed lola is really impressive and exceptional band for making that kind of melody and lyrics. the first time i heard it, I was enchanted.
Most Filipino singers are the product of karaoke of neighborhood...😊thanks to both of you waleska and efra for the appreciation of filipino pure talent..
The fudge Efra! Hahahahaha this is why I love you guys so fucking much. The amount of pride whenever you say FILIPINOS is immensely genuine and I'm not ready for it. You guys deserve so much more attention and followers really😢
Prior to traveling abroad, I was less appreciative of the singing culture in the Philippines. It's like things are normal so it's easy to overlook. Then, you'd wonder why people overseas think you're so good when you start singing because you've always felt average and normal in your home country. You even think they're just saying those to be nice. Competition is fierce and quality just goes better and better coz expectations are higher and higher.
SB19's Josh released his first solo Wild Tonight. Please watch it. But then it's probably already in your list. Gigi also did Unholy with Janine Berdin live in one of her concerts.
that's true for most part. technicality doesn't matter or its better to say that its not what filipinos are looking for when listening to music, its more on the vibes that you can get from listening or how heart wrenching the lyrics are.
This was really a normal thing here, seeing 9 or 8 out 10 people who can sing really good. But because of people like you, my perspective changed, from normal to special.
Hello Efra and Waleska! Josh of SB19 released his debut single "WILD TONIGHT" last Friday, and just now, he also released it's Performance Version of it. Josh wrote the lyrics and co-produced this with his cousin, Ocho the bullet. He is also the creative director, and was also involved in the choreography -- basically the entire process. He said that song is 90% him, and he is proud of it. That's why we're all so proud of him! 🥺 Waiting for your reaction!
You nailed it. So many vocally talented filipinos here more than you can imagine but opportunity is very low. Everyone is your competition that it just becomes just an ordinary talent here. What we see here are viral videos. We all know being viral is not just one click. Believe me when I say there are lot of extraordinary here undiscovered by the public eye.
come to the ph and just watch live bands, I don't know if you like that but if you experience that you might have goosebumps every night just listening and vibing. I bring foreign friends quite a bit since I worked and lived in different countries I have a few and they love coming by.
Eith Efra's point, it's not just the technicalities anymore when it comes to singing competition, every singer has nailed that to their craft it's now the battle of emotions you can give , create as you sing. Most apparent in Tawag ng Tanghalan.
W🤩W! Y'all saved the best for last. L🥳ved the whole vid. Filipinos are gifted singers. The tide is changing where the whole world will be accepting the Philippines music. Thanks so much guys.🙏👌❤️
It's so good to see the two of you back ...thank God for taking care of you Waleska..now both of you stay safe , stay healthy, stay cool and stay beautiful. More blessings to you and the family.
Waleska and Efra it's time you to visit the Pholippines...on March 21-26,2023 "David Foster and Frends" will have a Concert in Solaire Manila and Morissette is one of his special guest singer, hope you'll go now and visit the Philippines, filipinos loves you so much 🥰💖
Honestly, I think we learn to sing by loving music since babies and then we start emulating and creating the same sound however difficult it may be. At least that's how I learn. If you listen to young kids how they do they're runs, it is a direct copy from the original then eventually learn the right technic and do better as we grew older. No training, just trial & error. Especially when you are told you sound like the original, you tend to try singing everything that singer has to offer, then you start to branch out into other singers. Mind you, the first singer you sound alot like is lets say, the Whitney Houston. Imagine me singing all her songs, mastering it then say, let me try singing Mariah 😅
3:58 "prowess and technicalities may not be as impressive" "now its more like what emotions does it create" "what memories does it bring." I think these insights are captured by the Filipino term "hugot" which usually just means "to draw on, to pull out". But in the context of vocal music, it is used as a noun that means something like "the place in you experience and memory that you draw on to produce expressive, emotional singing."
Hi efra and waleska👋🙂❤️🇵🇭it's nice to see you back in the game waleska.its so refreshing to see your beautiful face on RU-vid.next time be careful and take care of yourself more because RU-vid is a whole different ball game when your not in it.its bloody boring when your not around.lots of love from your filipino family😘😘😘🇵🇭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

my neighbhors rn they're ofw's but.. when they played at this recent new year, man blown my mind. they have drums and guitars and shiz. they play so good that i thought they're one of the bands you see in wish 107.5 they sang so good that i can't even dare to say man i can do that shiz but man.. i'm a filifino i sound like a dying chicken when i sing. im humbled so much that i can't even sing in the shower without contemplating how i sound.
One might think the Filipino audience (to a concert) is hard to please because we are so exposed to great singers but there are a LOT of videos out there of the Filipino Concert audience. If you haven't yet, check them out! More power to your channel!
The reason why we appreciate foreigners acknowledging Filipinos who can sing is what Efra exactly said, they might sound exceptional and international level to you but here, it’s pretty normal because apparently majority of the population can sing at a really good level.
We also have music subject from elementary to high school. We have to learn how to read and know how to make or draw/write notes and the beats or else we will fail.. and we also have to perform (sing/dance) as a final test. .. lovelots!! Take care always .. sorry for the grammar 😅😅😅
in the philippines the children have learned to sing but they have not yet learned to read. 😊it seems normal that you haven't learned to read but they already sing very well
