VSCode has built in feature to select using Ctrl+D with Characters Cases sense ( you will get it in right top corner of editor when click Ctrl+D first time)

You have changed my life multiple times within 60 seconds.

This is the only feature I missed when I switched from Atom to VS Code long time ago. Glad to have it back 🎉

For those suggesting Alt+C in VS Code to toggle the match case - that only helps with the _selection_ . The extension preserves the case when you type something new so "post" and "Post" are replaced with "data" and "Data". As an alternative to this extension, you can Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac) to open up Find, insure you have toggled the match case (Alt+C) so all cases are selected, expand to show the Replace window, type the word you want to insert, toggle preserve case (Alt+P), and then replace all by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Enter. Seems like a _long ways to go_ when you can use this extension to simply type your change after selecting with Ctrl+D. For those that feel like doing a _code review_ on the changes I demonstrated - I just looked for a file that had one word a lot to demonstrate the changes. Clearly an example and not changes I was going to keep. You can press Alt+Click to deselect anything you don't want to change.

Excellent work, I understood everything watching it the first time and felt like an absolute genius after I read the comments from people who didn’t catch it. That said, English is my first language, so maybe it wasn’t that I’m smarter just that I have the advantage

Also, in vanilla VSCode, you can use Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down Arrows to get a multi-line cursor. EDIT: I accidentally said ctrl+shift earlier. This was wrong. Ctrl+Shift+Arrow is just a simple select. Not what I meant

Been using this extention for over a year and this is one of the first few must extensions whenever i get new vscode in new pc, glad finally got the spot light it deserves.

I use the regex find and replace for this, but obviously an extension is much easier! Just don't forget to change your method back to 'POST' 😉

I use to do this by using find and replace, enable case sensitive so I have to do this 2 times if I want to keep the sensitive case. Now this is a lot faster and easier.

Don't let others throw you down. This extension is very useful for refactoring. It obviusly would be nice to have it already on vscode but this isn't that bad either

Built-in in intelij, double alt and left click allows you create cursors as many as you need. Or if you need only replace in flie ctrl + r, in all project ctrl+shift+r

You can use Ctrl + Shift + H and then use regex for replacement. This is less convenient, but allows you to achieve what you want.

This is a built in feature now in Find & Replace you just have to click the button (idk the shortcut yet) and it works..just learnt about it today!!

Alternatively… you can do command+f to show the find popup and there you can press Aa button to turn on case matching. Now you do command +d or command+shift+L to select case based on case matching - you’re welcome 😊

When you select a word, the finder popup comes on top right. You can easily click that for case-sensitivity, or complete word vs regex. No extensions needed ✨

Or just use regex to do the same thing from the find field, you can control case sensativity there too. Bonus: highlight a section to only search that section for your speific word or phrase instead of the entire document. No extensions needed

"In the past there was no way to change these all at once". Ctrl+F select both 'case sensitive' and 'match whole word'. Open the dropdown and type what you want to replace with and then click replace. Easy peasy.

A single vim extension can do this and many other handy things in vscode

A little slower but if you don't use vscode and have a replace-all function in whatever editor you're using, you could just do case-sensitive matching for the word and then replace all the variants with the intended casing. It's more error-prone due to needing to know all the variants and having to make extra changes, but almost every text editor can do it that way. It just takes n-times as many changes as in this video, where n is the number of casing variants you have.

You can control which to select depending on what you have selected on search filters

You can use ctrl+F2 that also works well ✌️

I like to use the 'match whole word' option in the editor search field (Which applies also to Ctrl + D). Just using Ctrl + Shift + L is a bit too risky for me most of the time. Also: "Helps to prevent Errors" is a bit of an overstatement in your example if you also rename the request method to "DATA" 😉

This is cool that VS has added this. This has always been one of my favorite Sublime Text features.

At first I just thought it's a replacement of "Find and Replace", but this does seem better due to changing all versions of the word. Though i doubt i would be using this so much personally as I normally don't repeat the same word in different forms (uppercase, first letter uppercase etc.)

You can just press Ctrl+F and replace any occurrence with what ever you want. You make it case sensitiv or not and it also supports regular expressions. No need for a bad plugin

Theres another extension called Sensitive Replace which does basically the same thing but optionally with the command palette. However, this is a lot better imo

Ctrl + F2 = multi cursor Alt + C = case Alt + W = only exact word then type Ctrl + H = find & replace Alt + P = exact case Ctrl + Alt + Enter = replace all occurences

You don't need an extension. Just do ctrl+F then select the options you want for your search, then with ctrl+D you're selecting all of the currencies matching your search

“Data” is an unfortunate example, but it also demonstrate the problem with batch renaming stuff and different plural forms. Here we have an end result saying “datas” :)

The find and replace in the editor while using CMD+F has now a preserve case toggle too

If you don't want to install extension. You can use regular expression "(string)"

or... hist press Ctrl + H (search and replace) and activate case sensitive. -no extension required.

There is also Ctrl + f hit the arrow and u got find and replace 😊

Even though ALT+C change the case of the match it doesn't select all the matches of the words. So this extension is still good, regardless some "emotioned people" stated.

If you use regular searc (ctrl+F) and use the case (aA) when you use ctrl+D it will respect the case. But this extension also replaces the content, really good.

Oooo snazzy. Can it also alter the same variable throughout different files or selected files? Better to catch that stuff before making more files but that would be a cool additive
