I watched entire playthrough, amazing finale! I love TWoM and have dozens of plays so far...what could have maybe helped you are some hidden rules, namely since you were struggling with resources to remove cold tokens, you could have dismantled a fitting and get the resources from that (instead of poking). Also I believe that you could assign meds and bandages at any time (in order to prevent them being stolen)... :)

Thanks Ime! I've heard news of these rules before but I haven't checked them out yet. I will definitely be using them next time I play! I need all the help I can get. Thanks again for watching!

Great finale! As I was watching the earlier vids, my first thought was, you need board-ups early since they do double duty. paxton73 caught that one. So on fittings, early priority would be the bed (for action efficiency) and then the workshop for board-ups (and it can also make parts if you have bad luck). Fittings after that depend a lot on the situation, but more in a sec... On scavenging, it's worth paying attention to the map cards that go with the locations. Open spaces is a waste, but the other five are good, giving you a Findings and a bunch more exploration cards. Two of them don't need a tool, but the other three need a shovel, lockpick, or sawblade. Ideally, you'd like to scavenge somewhere that has three map cards you can access. If you don't have the tools, the Metal Workshop can make them, so that's a consideration for an early fitting after bed and regular workshop. In some ways this game is an engine builder. Except the engine building isn't competing with VPs, it's competing with loss avoidance. If you don't have enough engine, you can get stuck in a mode where you're spending a lot of resource (both time and currency) each turn to avoid disaster. Getting to where the scavenging is always focused on trading to get something you have to have is a manifestation of that, since trading is fundamentally not efficient - unless you are trading early to get a part that's needed to build a fitting that helps your engine. EDIT: To clarify, it's trading at a cost of 6 exploration cards that is inefficient. Trading can be really useful, but you normally want to do it for 0-1 cards using one of the other mechanisms. Of course it's balanced to be difficult, so there are no silver bullets and it takes a bunch of play to figure out what works This was a good story; thanks for sharing it!

That's a great breakdown. I tend to get caught up in short term goals - I do this in every game. I set a goal and go for it. I really wanted to meet that first objective and probably didn't take the most efficient route. I was definitely not setting up an engine for the long term. Definitely learned a lot of lessons from that play (which I will probably forget before my next play 😂). Thanks for watching the series and for your comments.

I think a playthrough is always more fun to watch if there's a clear objective. That's especially true in a narrative-focused game, and folks probably learn faster when they see what they have to do to achieve specific objectives. Beyond that, the objectives really are pretty important here and the penalties vary. Unfortunately 3 of the 7 are "raise all characters misery by 2", and misery is nasty. This is where luck comes in; you can have 0, 1 or 2 of these objectives in your game. And you might have characters who are relatively more resilient, or who can help other characters be more resilient. Or not, in which case you better hit the goal or get that still going. Anyway, I wouldn't normally put spoilers in the comments, but this is such a challenging game, I'm assuming most folks coming here are probably looking for a few.

Absolutely wonderful playthrough! I was just curious what organizers you use for the small little pieces for the game?
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled 2 года назад
Thanks for watching Phoenix! I'm glad you enjoyed the playthrough. The organizer is the Tool Bench Hardware Plastic Compartmented Storage Case from Dollar Tree. You can find it here: www.dollartree.com/tool-bench-hardware-plastic-compartmented-storage-cases/206348. It is very handy for a bunch of different games. Very very thin, so good for games with lots of different components, but small amounts.

I'm glad you enjoyed the playthrough. I hope you don't regret your purchase, but if you can handle the epic scale, randomness and dark subject matter, then I think you will love the experience. Thanks for checking out the series!

Ya, unfortunately first thing you must do in this game is build board ups to help with both the cold and night raids

Yep, this is great advice. I was trying to avoid them and just use the heater but that was clearly a mistake. Makes thematic sense. You would try to cover up the holes as soon as possible. Thanks for watching Paxton!

Great play. It seems more challenging than Robinson Crusoe in many ways. It feels, from your play, more thematic an experience. Both are very very good games IMO.
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Год назад
That is interesting, Steve. I agree with everything you say here. The two games feel so different. Robinson Crusoe creates emergent storytelling out of its streamlined euro-y mechanisms. You feel like you are playing a co-op strategy game and this beautiful adventure-survival story emerges. TWOM feels like a story game telling a survival-horror tale, and a fascinating game emerges. (Sleeping Gods is like this as well). I love both for different reasons. Thanks for watching the whole playthrough, Steve! I appreciate your support!

@@stevegeorge7773 That is something I've been thinking about, Steve. I've been waiting to get the Top 50 done, because it has been a huge project. Also, I might make these series a bit shorter or do something slightly different than I did with Sleeping Gods. Not sure yet. Any suggestions?

Really enjoying your play. I decided to have another go as from today....Help!😮 My dice throwing is usually awful so: it is not your did that is cursed 😊 Bruno will cause trouble...I feel it . At least Marin can add 3 to his die roll when liking about...useful. I hope I will not get the Rat Infestation card again ! Anyway, I shall try to be brave a d not cry this time round. BTW: Really like how neat your boardgame, meeples,cards etc are....I believe in respecting my games too....makes playing more enjoyable. As always: Kind regards.

Shaggi....please help. I hate the red, yellow and grey dice because the symbols on them confuse me and wounds finished my scavenging duo. My fault because I misinterpreted the results. Is there anyway to understand how to 'battle ' ? The instructions, I feel, are not clear enough. Have just laid the board out for another try ! Kind regards and thanks.
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled 2 года назад
@@apollonia6656 I can try to help. Some of the weird symbols refer to specific weapons -- so the shotgun side is only a hit if using a shotgun, etc. There is also a "fate" symbol on one of the misses. You can choose to either take the miss or draw a random fate card and resolve the bottom if it matches the die being used. If the bad guys roll the three little dots side then their gun jams and they have to use unarmed attacks. Both sides attack at the same time. You can use your prowess to reroll (the bad guys also get to do this if they roll a miss). To kill the bad guys you need three hits on them. You keep battling or you can choose to try to flee between attacks, but they get one attack on you. Sometimes (like in my playthrough) you have text based options for avoiding or stopping a fight. Hope that helps!

Shaggi, I knew you would be able to help me.....I was in a pickle ! Great explanation and I wrote everything down. Both sides attack at the same time 😯😯😯😯oh dear ! No wonder my duo died quickly 😢 When I first played TWoM I did not have to fight however , I still lost ! Right, the board is ready and thanks to you I am ready to battle if needs be 😊 Thank you so much for your help and as always Kind Regards.

Ah, the returning scavengers could carry 6 weight and I only had 3 weight, so I added 3 water (each is 1 weight) to their haul. You can always add resources of your choice to their haul. Hope that helps, Alex!

can you leave this game and come back to it? for example. one night play through a day. the next night, play through the next
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled 9 месяцев назад
Absolutely. If you have a dedicated space to leave it out, then it is very easy to stretch it out over several days. It is also possible to pack it up and set it back up midway, but that is fiddly. Much better to leave it set up if possible. Thanks for watching!

25:45 dont they all get miserable since you rolled 7 and all of them are below 7 empathy ?

Nope. In this case empathy is bad, so only characters with equal or HIGHER empathy than the die roll get miserable. That is why you want to roll high. Thanks for watching!
