The Golden State Warriors have lost Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, and Jordan Poole in the last 12 months... and their future is just looking sad. #warriors #goldenstatewarriors #nba
@@jojo__22 Melo would not fit either on that roster at the time or with GSW style of play but for sure they could done much better. Really it was missing on Poole that started the slide. He worked just hard enough to get paid.. then tanked himself into obscurity
Its true , they throw away the 2nd pick by drafting Wiseman, if they get Haliburton it would be better . They pick Wiseman who only play 5 games in College. what a decision. Melo would also a disaster for the Warriors, because he is a clown, he would be another Weber , who destroy the team . But they would find another shooting players, Warriors is always a shooting team, with Hardaway, and Chris Mullins in the past. They should stop getting players like Sprewell, Weber & Monta Ellis.
Oh yeah, it's going to be real sad with him since you know it's more of a recent success rather than with Kobe or Dirk. It had been a while before they had any real success and then they kind of just faded into the background.
It's funny, Dirk's 2011 chip kinda marked the end of the Dirk/Kobe era. Because Dallas would never come close to winning another ring with Dirk, and Kobe's Lakers was never the same after getting swept by Dirk.
@@richardnelson26 Oh my what a filthy casual. Kobe scored 60 points in his retirement game. He still had game but he got frustrated with the recovery time of his multiple injuries.
The owner made it clear he has lost too much money in luxury tax alone and he wouldn’t keep doing it. He did his job as an owner and took the hit for his team to be as good as possible and now it’s time to make money again
One game, 1 seasons and 2 career ending surgeries doesn't justify the fact to celebrate this achievements as a warriors helping contribute 4 chips in his time here. Give him his respect and move on. He's a legend. No need to be salty and bitter of his absence now.
Or the 4 terrible games Klay had in last years playoffs. Love Klay but people are over hyping his value. He's a perfect fit for the Mavs. But he was still trying the be the warriors 2nd best player and it's not working
Thank you. People are letting their hearts talk. This dude Klay is washed AF. It’s over. His only chance of legitimacy moving forward is deciding to be a spot up shooter. Period. Stop trying to act like a well rounded scorer.
Missing on Lamelo over Wiseman in 2020 or even Sengun over Moody in 2021 led the Warriors to where they are now. Curry doesn’t have anyone to pass the torch.
I was ready to jump in the comments and blast this video from the title but you are spot on. The '22 chip was a legacy defining for Steph/Klay/Dray, Steph particularly, to show that they still had it in them to win one that was unquestionable. There was no way to pin injury luck or being a super team with KD to discredit the ring. It was the purest win. But it did also raise expectations that this core group was still pure championship material. I definitely do not want to live in a timeline where the Dubs don't win the '22 chip and all the hard decisions were made then but maybe it would've been easier. The Dubs are basically trying to Moneyball their way into reproducing what prime Klay was with Melton's D, Buddy's shooting, and Slo Mo's IQ and playmaking and hoping to make a trade to try to extend their competitive window. It probably won't set the league on fire but you never know. Also, to speak to your point about how a Spurs' like run is not supposed to happen, even the Spurs went out with some weirdness. Tony Parker left early to go to Charlotte so their Big 3 broke up also. Spurs also entered their "if they just get into the playoffs then look out!" phase where they weren't clear cut favorites but no one would want to face them in the playoffs, same spot the Dubs have been the last couple of seasons. Then you have the whole Kawhi weirdness the last couple of seasons before he was essentially banished to Toronto (got a chip though lol). Really speaks to your point about how no dynasty is supposed to go out gracefully. The Spurs would still be dealing with weirdness if Wemby didn't fall into their lap. I'm cautiously curious and optimistic about how the Dubs go forward. Would love to see a follow-up video once the Dubs finish all their moves. They're still pushing for Lauri so could be interesting times in the Bay still.
That core warriors team isn't good enough for today's NBA. Too small, too inconsistent. Other teams have figured them out and adjusted. They need something completely different.
I will miss you, Klay Thompson my man forever thanks for everything and thank you for s all the high school memories you guys really really made me happy with your fourth championship 😭😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Remember when Joe Lacob, the Warriors owner said this: “We're light-years ahead of probably every other team in structure, in planning, in how we're going to go about things." The Warriors got lucky. They hit on three draft picks in four years, drafting three hall of famers with average draft positions of 17. Getting Steph at 7, Klay at 11, and Dray in the second round were ridiculous strokes of luck. Then, they got lucky again. Steph's ankle injury allowed them to sign him at a discount right before he changed the NBA. They hadn't figured anything out, they scouted well and hit on draft picks, they managed their money well, and they took advantage of every break that came their way. Combine that with great coaching and players that were amazing and you have four titles in ten years. NOW is when you find out how good their ownership and management are in reality. Now they have issues and how well they overcome those issues will determine how good they are really.
He's 36. Made enough money to last until the next generation. Considered as one of the best guards of all time. Not much to prove anymore. Just chill and provide mentorship to teammates until it's time to retire is the best way to go out. Just like Dirk.🙂
I can’t imagine them winning anything for the next like 10 years. The golden years are beyond over and they aren’t going to draft anybody who brings them back within that time frame.
You are talking about the Lakers... these Warriors trek depends on whether they can draft a star the next few years or end up being Sacramento southern squad
They really had a major setback by missing on James wiseman. That pick was supposed to stretch this warriors run a bit longer. If they drafted lamelo or even flipped the pick for a player of high value than they most likely wouldn’t be in this position. That miss definitely hurts them. Less than 4 years later and your number 2 pick is off the team is crazy. Also as a Draymond fan he did speed up this teams downfall. Running KD out, punching your teams second best scorer does not help
So true on the James Wiseman miss. They can't be blamed for it since that's the type of player they always were lacking, but it was just really unfortunate that it had to end that way. The stuff with Draymond would be more excusable if he was still good enough to make up for it. But just like rodman at the end of his career, the antics off the court did not make up for the production on the court and he simply has to either change or get moved on from. I thought him taking a less than max contract was a good step forward, however.
I think yall commentators are forgetting that the warriors were 3 games out of being the 6th seed. That was with Draymond being suspended way more than usual (likely would've won more than 3 more games otherwise), and with Klay bringing negative energy and distraction, being a bad selfish egotistical teammate who was constantly whining, pouting, complaining, and literally crying, while also being terrible at everything but spot up shooting. Getting rid of Klay's negativity, and Draymond being suspended a normal amount (lol), and the younger players getting better and having more minutes... I think the Warriors might be significantly better than last year, and they were good last year considering
@rockysalvatore435 hello sir, hope all is well with u. Not sure i see the logic in question/statement. You said that, "YOU thought Steph didn't need Draymond." What YOU thought has nothing to do with me or with what I said sir. Idk u, or what u thought, so I didn't take what YOU thought into consideration when I brought him up.
Okay call me a divisional GSW fan but Poole (minus championship year), CP3, and (post injury) klay all took up 30-40 mil in cap respectfully and didn’t due much but eat up minute. Is it not logical to get rid of them (even for nothing) to play the young guys and help build for the future?
@@sendo__they just want to say something to "rebel" the idea that curry can't carry these teams. They want to throw ideas to seem hopeful even though someone just threw the idea out in the video
help the young guys... right...... BRO y'all "YOUNG GUYS" have to beg Steve kerr into giving them minutes wont be surprised if 5 years from now its revealed that kuminga took backshots jus to play lol
Dunleavy has done a great job as a GM by finding a way out of Bob Myers' mistakes and didn't make new mistakes so far. Letting old players with big ego go is good move. Not overpaying for guys not worth the contract is good move. Finding others to take bad contracts such as Jordan Poole is good move. Getting rid of draft bust is good move. The only negative is the owner seems to put too much personal opinion to influence the front office. Lacob is very high on Kuminga who after all these years is still raw and may or may not be a good fit for the system. But unless we have a new owner the team will have to stick with Kuminga until it becomes obvious for everyone that he is not that good. (As a Warriors, I hope I am wrong)
I actually like what they did this offseason. Melton, Hield, and Anderson are all very good role players. They're still not a contender. But I don't think they got any worse. Klay is a one-dimensional shooter at this point. I'm also not sure what Mike Dunleavy is supposed to do. Where is the trade that will make them a title team again? If they had more exciting young players or more picks to offer, that would be a different story.
That's what you get when you turn the NBA into a player dominated league. It happened in football (soccer) and its worse because they actually BUY players and the they leave for a bigger salary. There's no live for teams anymore.
I think the second apron/new cba was aimed directly to stop the warriors and no team wanted to even entertain helping them with a trade along with bad draft picks means bye bye
The rules were changed. The Warriors had the longest walk to adjust to the new rules. Getting out of the Jordan Poole Contract was a win. Getting out of the Chris Paul Contract was a win. I am a Warrior fan, but the reality is that keeping Klay was not the answer. (His personal frustration and attitude was creating a negative atmoshpere within the team --- especially with the younger players. Hopefully he does better in Dallas.) Respect to Steph Curry for staying with the Warriors and staying positive. But, we should not not completely count him out. There is always the chance for him to catch fire with a group of over-achieving "We Believe" players long enought to get another championship. It is this glorious possibility that makes the game interesting.
Yea I don’t think keeping Klay was ever a good idea. Clearly they offered him a sweet contract last summer and he basically said fuck you, why should they have offered him anything this off-season with the way he acted during the season.
Too many mistakes mount to a difficult situation. Wiggins's big contract didn't work out. Jordan Poole's contract didn't work out. Wiseman turned to a bust. Klay didn't returned to his prime.
Dirk wasn't that bad. Passed torch to goat talent but a subpart team. Curry will leave a good team that's middling but rising. Kobe left a goat trash team w lots of potential and he was crippled
@@genethicc6610 Warriors fans were all former Lakers fans anyway. Don't try to deny it, I know loads of people like that and I'm sure you know some too.
My only ever fav NBA team--Dubs--and I are soon to part ways. I won't care about them anymore because no more rings. For decades, I cared the world about them when they made the playoffs like once every seven years on average, and went like 38 years in between championships, but now I'm done with them.
The real fans yess, but im happy that we will offload a bunch plastic ungrateful bandwagon fans over the years especially after 2015 and 2016 peak time. Those guys never watched the warriors struggled for 28+ years before they won.
As a warriors fan since the 90s, it’s ok. I’m used to them losing. I know they’re blowing it up soon. I’m glad for the last decade. Hopefully now I can finally afford tickets to a game.
Yeah Anthony Edwards is the only one that would’ve made a difference but they would’ve had to find a way to trade up for him with Minnesota and that probably wasn’t going to happen
@@ry_an. Maxey would have been great as a Warrior. Devotion to old man D Green and Klay cost them a chance to rebuild more quickly. Either way its over and Curry has a choice to make how many more years he wants to abuse his body
Regardless of team value and owner wealth, the second apron and restrictions it poses on expensive teams is going to have a massive impact. IMO I see the contending teams becoming younger as they can put more talent on the court for the same buck. Some players wanting to get paid will have to leave with selling tickets vs contending.
One move that the Warriors ABSOLUTELY should have made was punishing Draymond for punching Poole. A lot of people think that the Warriors dodged a bullet by trading Poole due to his regression the year after they won the championship. I find it hard to believe that Draymond's attack on Poole and relative lack of punishment for it did not have an affect on Poole's performance. As for the Warriors, they won't be contenders, but I don't think they'll be terrible. They added some solid players, and their young talent are gonna get more opportunities to shine. Wiggins and Draymond are the X-factors imo. With Klay now gone, they both need to step up and bounce back.
The warriors' critical mistake (it was something I predicted) was not trading Wiggins at the right time, trading Poole at the right time, and drafting Wiseman
Dude idk about your analysis. Paying a bunch of money to Chris Paul and klay and remaining the most expensive team in the league with a bunch of ancient guys was obviously not the move. They offered klay more money than Dallas but it wasn’t about money, he was always leaving after they didn’t max him out after the last title, this was all ego and pride that drove him out. Warriors have been on an incredible run and a few down years from here to wind down Steph’s career is absolutely fine considering the success they have had
Exactly, Thank you, I am sick and tired of these people acting like the warriors should have overpay Klay, keep a 38 years old, And Keep Jordan Poole who is literally the worst contract in the league in this CBA.
Unpopular opinion: Warriors will be much better than “just a 9th seed” this season Not even a curry/warriors fan so not being biased They were solid when Dray was healthy last year
The new rules and tax but yeah, we've basically not had any returns for players leaving. There was a time when front office would never let that happen. If we don't get Lauri, I'm not even going to give us a chance at a run in the playoffs. We're hurting for a 2nd source of offense.
Warriors have a top 5 player in the league on their team, all of their draft picks moving forward, and multiple young tradable players. Suns, Clippers, Post-LeBron Lakers, and multiple other teams have it worse. Warriors are in a great position to make some moves.
I'm not really sure what they're supposed to do. They don't have a stockpile of picks or desirable players. If a perfect fit does become available, there are half a dozen teams that could outbid them. The guys they could realistically trade for aren't making them a contender. Where does Steph and Lauri Markkanen really get you? In the meantime, I actually think they've done fine this offseason. They lost Klay, but they've brought in multiple useful role players. I kind of like next year's team better than last year's. Granted, that's not saying much. I'd still expect them to be in the play-in or worse. What they're doing is not nearly as egregious as the Nuggets, who are squandering an MVP in his prime just to save a few dollars.
One thing the warriors have going for them is they rarely ever traded their picks. So if they are bad, they could draft a cooper flagg or ace bailey or dylan harper and bring in the next era of warriors basketball.
GSW is following the “Lakers’ right before Kobe retired” game plan. Sorta kinda port a competitive team together until your GOAT retires and then go full rebuild.
Celtics did it right in 2013. Not saying Warriors should trade Steph and Draymond and all will be better, but they cannot be contenders when they are still on the books and aging. They missed with Wiseman, bad, which def looks to have bitten them in the ass even more than before. Trading Poole away was a mistake. I'm certain that one of the many reasons Bob Myers stepped down was because he didn't want to deal with a huge rebuild and be the face of why Klay left. The Warriors are in for a rough few years with aging steph and draymond, basically trying to make the play in games and hope for some favorable ping pong balls. Once Steph retires and I wouldn't be surprised if Steve Kerr resigns around the same time or before it or not long after.
You said “they won a title 7 years apart” BRUH, yeah..if you consider the time between their first and last chips. With that “logic” the Bulls also won 7 years apart (91-98) and the spurs won them 11 years apart (03-14)
Hot take, Kuminga will be an allstar next season, moody will average double digits with around 40% in 3. poj will be better and TJD will play D, thats a good team, play in atleast haha
Nah, they will compete. Bob Myers was tasked with 2 timeline thing but with Wiseman being bust and had no balls to let go of Klay, he stepped down Now Mike Dunleavy will be tasked to put a competitive scenery for Steph whatever it takes, leading to Klay’s departure and now they’re aggressively pursuing Lauri which tells us Lacob might permit him to abandon the two timeline plan and instead give Steph his last chance to compete
The fact is Poole wasn't helping them win games. And Klay and CP3 weren't even close to worth the money they cost last season. They both looked like they should consider retirement. The Warriors are taking the ONLY path forward. They can't hang onto players that are ineffective at this stage. How can they possibly get better unless they find ways to get under the luxury tax? Wiggins is the next guy they want to move. And they're expecting Kuminga to become an All Star caliber player. Jordan played his final years on a weak Wizards team and Kobe played on some terrible Lakers teams. This is how it ends for most. Even LeBron isn't playing for a contender. It's the natural career arc of a superstar player.
They're not trying to win. They're probably going to trade Curry for a bunch of assets. His value is still super high. There's absolutely no way of building a competitive team around him at this point. Steph and Draymond will probably get traded this season
Honestly I believe losing those guys is addition by subtraction. Klay might have put up stats, but his team defense and attitude was a detriment to the team.
Interesting take, but could you guys in your rush to put out content for the love of god actually look at the details? Please. Tell me who besides OKC got better in the west? Minnesota and Denver lost depth. Dallas finally got a decent defense and then after going to a finals got rid of it. Clippers are one injury away from a 30 win season. Memphis still hasn’t fixed the loss of depth after the 2022 season. The Pelicans got Dejonte so maybe they did improve, but they still need depth to overcome injuries. Houston, lakers, kings, and suns haven’t done anything. Yet some how the ‘Sad’ team has shed salary and beefed up their bench. They look a lot more like the strength in numbers team you expect than the last 2 seasons. The west is still tough, but 80 to 90% of the teams are a lesser form than they were this season.
i know dirk isn't a perfect comp but i feel like his mavericks are a great historical comparison for how the end of an era built around a superstar should be handled and managed
Older dirk and the Mavs had one last run in them till KD joined the warriors so screw the warriors. Oh and they tried to recruit dirk for a an easy ring and got rejected
It took a second apron tax upheaval (clearly targeted at the warriors), LeBron and Kyrie's historic playoff performances, Klay and KD's potential career ending injuries, a James Wiseman 2nd overall pick, and a Draymond green slap, to only allow the GSW to win 4 chips in 10 years. They made the playoffs 8 times in 10 years, and have won before KD, with KD, and after KD. I don't think this franchise will go out sorry the next 3 years or so. Although, it's understandable that a dynastic run eventually comes to a stop. I will remain optimistic for the warriors, but as a fan, I would love to see one more legitimate run in the Playoffs with Curry around. Even if it is unlikely.
People need to understand that letting CP3 walk “for nothing” enabled them to acquire Melton, Anderson, and Hield. They could not have gotten any of those guys with the $30M on the books.
Back to what they used to be, irrelevant! But honestly good for them for giving the brand respect. Remember when they were 1st making noise back in the mid 2010s
All good things comes to an end as a rockets fan even though they took two chips away from Harden and those rockets team you can’t deny it was a historic run. Klay and Steph are going to be regarded as on of the greatest shooters ever and both of them and Draymond are going to be in the Hall. But it was time to move on the Warriors need to spend their time developing their young guys Jonathan Kuminga especially because he going to be the face of their franchise once Steph retires so they need to focus preparing him being the guy then trying to extend a run that is already over
Easy fix is, the nba makes a rule that requires players over the age of 33 to sign only front loaded contracts. So instead of a player like Steph making 60 million at age 39 he’d make 30 million or less
I wish I lived in the Alternate Universe where Klay never tore his ACL or the Warriors were able to draft Edwards instead of Wiseman. Just imagine how many more rings they could of won 💍 🏀 🤔
The Chris Paul trade was terrible. Not only did the Dubs give up on Poole; they also traded away PBJ, Rollins and a draft pick to get a bench player. But not overpaying for Klay was a good move. And I think Green should go, too. Time to rebuild. The biggest loss is Bob Myers. I don’t think Dunleavy could carry his jockstrap as a GM.
Ur wrong. They got off poole’s awful contract for $30 million which was a great move and the pbj and Rollins trade was for Trayce Jackson-Davis not Chris Paul. Would you not do Rollins and PBJ for TJD? Yeah, I’m thinking that was a pretty good trade. Find another sport to watch clown
If they truly value Steph, they should trade him to a contender to chase greatness while he is still at an elite level. The dynasty is over, the west is as stacked as it can possibly be and the cherry on top - Boston is a juggernaut team that will be waiting at the Finals for a while.
@@JoaoCruz-lu2kjwe can’t assume Steph is content being a playin team no one ever thought Brady would leave the Pats but it happened different sport don’t matter when’s the last loyal player to stay with one team it usually doesn’t happen nowadays. Remember when Dame wanted to be loyal look what happened.
This guy doesn't really watch a team closely outside of Brooklyn. They def needed to cut Poole out. He peaked. Wasn't going to improve and at best a Jordan Clarkson 2.0 making crazy money. Last season for the wizards def showed why it was the best move from Poole. We all knew as well Chris Paul was just a salary dump. If he had enough gas he would help the team but was constantly injured and did a decent job. He was clearly as well out performed by Warriors rookie Brandin Podzmieski who is a better KEY PIECE and more affordable. Hence why the warriors cut CP3. He was always a salary dump. The money they are saving right now or clearing cap space is for a young star at his prime or an aging all star who can come in for an affordable contract unlike PG13 who got 200+ million for only playing 50% of clippers game. Philly was that desperate.
i think their future is actually fine. once steph/dray retrire or move on, their cap space will be very good. trayce, podz, kuminga, melton, anderson, moody is a good cheap core
You’re coping. It’s okay. You guys had an amazing dynasty. But as soon as Curry leaves, it’s over. I’m a Patriots fan. I understand what you’re going through.
Nobody wants to commit to the take always saying "this is the end of an era...for golden state" cause they know that dude can prove em wrong. Looking forward to nba season already.
If they were smart, they'd trade steph. They won't be able to put a team around him thats good enough to win a title, and its a waste of the rest of his career to stay in golden state. His value is still high and with a good trade package they could kickstart the rebuild that is inevitable.
