Those descriptions of the BIG LARGE MAN are killing me. There’s a character from The Magnus Archives, Jared Hopworth, who steals people’s bones to make himself freakishly yuge, and that’s all I could picture through that whole section
Only imagining male romance leads as monstrous meat monsters with MULTIPLE limbs and organs from now on. He strips and 18 pairs of arms come out like some f-ed up centipede, and at least 5 hearts.
I know everyone is talking about how Ali Hazelwood writes these big men, but this was the first time that I heard the examples of how she describes them and lmaooo wtf is that
OMG I can't wait for The Court Of Silver Flames by youuuuu. I just love those videos. You do them so GOOD! It feels like reading them again, enjoying them, laughing about them. I gotta go finish reading the last one quickly.
Hi Cari, I am SO happy you started this channel! You're so transparent, creative, and inspiring! I don't think I have ever read this much in my entire life, and I LOVE it!! You give us so much, and of course we are always here for you 🤗. I know how hard it is to overcome anxiety, and my daughter deals with social anxiety as well. Go easy❤️. You're amazing!! And, of course, thoughts and prayers to Seoul 🙏
I’ll be honest your videos helped me get back into reading, I don’t read nearly as much every month as you do but I’m proud to say I’m reading way more than I was!! Your videos hold a special place in my heart and I’m always finding new stuff to add to my TBR list from your wrap ups❤️
I find it hilarious that the Danish man is discribed as "mountain" anything because if there is something that for sure isn't in Denmark it's mountains. Thank you for being the amazing person that you are and sharing it with us, at times we don't at all share the same taste in books but I'll watch your videos anyway because of the vibes and that I get to hangout with you for a while. So thank you for giving me and properbly others a place to come and unwind and relax.
I recently read “league of gentlewoman witches” and you explained exactly how i felt. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that made me go 📈📉📈📉📈📉📈📉 It had iconic one-liners but tbh I couldn’t care less about what the heck was going on in the plot😶
It Happened One Summer is one of my fav romance reads this year and I SALUTE you for going out of your comfort zone. Your friend is definitely an MVP for warning you beforehand lolol
I‘m always so impressed by how many books you manage to read in a month. My tbr is stretching on for miles like that guy‘s arms thanks to all your recommendations but I hardly manage to read more than 2-3 books a month. 😅 Anyway, finally got „The love hypthesis“ in from the library after waiting 9 weeks(!), very excited to read.
Okay I normally don’t use sponsors just cause I can’t always feel like I can trust them but Cari’s endorsement of Thred Up works for me- I guess I gotta buy clothes now
Thank you for posting despite the anxiety! Books are also my main form of escapism and i think there’s no need to apologize for talking about things that make you happy during a time of sadness❤ sending lots of love
southern book club was SO GOOD. i'm from south carolina and lived near some of the settings, so it was extra fun for me. i saw a review that was like "grady hendrix doesn't know how to write women, they're caricatures" but like... i knew every single one of these women irl!! genuinely one of the most accurate portrayals of upper-middle class southern white women tbh. sometimes they just feel like caricatures. and god, when they suggested The Thing happening on the night of the carolina/clemson game, i CACKLED because that's basically a state holiday. you can tell hendrix is from sc and i just LOVED it. horrorstör was a fun and quick read by him but i HIGHLY recommend picking it up physically for how well the book was designed. extremely meta, A+ book design and commitment to the bit. i'm planning to pick up my best friends exorcism next!
The guy is large, not just tall but large, very strong and fit, very grumpy, somehow rich, with a large penis and great in bed. The woman is tiny with small tits and really smart and accomplished. We could probably make a template for these books.
Omg omg omggg 😂❤ I’m so excited for the court of silver flames plot summary. You have no idea how much i ADORE your plot summaries videos- I have literally watched all of them over and over again so many times already!!
this video made me so happy cari! honestly your channel(s) are such a source of calm and happiness for me. when you're feeling sad or anxious, please know that. you help so many of us make it through life ☺💘
The southern book club’s guide to slaying vampires was so good but man did I despise her family and the men in it lol another good one by Grady Hendrix is Horrostör
I didn’t get to continue watching yesterday. I have had a very full-on week at work and just finished. I really just needed to lie down and rest/recalibrate, and I suddenly felt such a need to watch your new video. Thank you, Cari, for helping me regulate my nervous system/body/emotions. I realise you and your videos have helped me with this a lot. Thank you 🤍
First off, I love Cari and love her recommendations. Secondly I have to comment because, in my opinion, The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels and the League of Gentlewomen Witches are two of the best books I read this year. They are absurd but so funny, I was crying while reading them. I would describe them as close to Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones but for adults who love Monty Python. They take place in a Victorian England where magic exists. You have group of 60-70 year old women who on the outside appear as a book club or knitting circle of proper ladies but in actuality are a group of ruthless pirates who enjoy stealing from everyone (including each other) and hire hit men to attempt to kill each other if they make a comment about their dress or something that rubs them the wrong way. They have a magic spell to fly their houses around the country and raid and pillage as they go. The first book follows Cecilia, a niece to one of the women, who through a set of circumstance teams up with a man hired to kill her to save the Wisteria Society. It is so much fun to read and I feel so passionate about this book, I hope a lot of you give this book a try!
this! I actually read gentlewomen witches without realising it was part of a series and it's honestly among one of my favourite books! I have wisteria society but have yet to pick it up, love to hear that Cecilia is very much still the only source of sanity in an insane world
I've just read The Southern Book Club's Guide to slaying Vampires this October too and I'm so glad you loved it! Such a fun, unique and truly terrifying read. Will definitely pick up My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix too.
I just finished Skin of the sea by Natasha Bowen and I loooved it. I highly recommend it if you wanna read African folklore/mythology and mermaids! It’s also a duology and the second book just came out in September. Definitely give it a try if it sounds like something you’d like 😊
I always look forward to your month reading recaps. I started reading again because of your videos. Forgot how much I used to love it. Your video recaps are super fun to watch and always makes me excited for reading the books you recommend. 💛💛thank you, thank you, for your channel.
If you liked the premise of Such a Quiet Place, with the idea of a character returning to a hometown after having been acquitted of a murder in that hometown, I strongly recommend Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young. It has a similar premise, but with witchy magical realism and a truly shocking ending. I gave it a full 5 stars purely for the reveal and plot twist at the very end.
Spells for Forgetting sounds kind of good to me but I can't find a definite answer if it's YA or Adult. But I need a great thriller bc none of my recent reads have been good.😕 I loooove a great twist (like Behind Her Eyes)!
So many people hate on It Happened One Summer and I reread it last month to see if I was crazy. Nope. Still loved it and so happy to see that you liked it to.
omg cari i would literally sell my soul for you to do a bloodmarked reading vlog now that it's out!!! pls pls i'm begging you i need all your thoughts 💖🥰 alsoooooo, after listening to your intro, i wanted to say you deserve all the support your channel receives!!!! i love your content smmmmm & truly believe you are essential to this community! 💞💞💞
Cari I just finished Once Upon a Broken Heart and I'm about to start a ballad of never after!!!! Im scared after watching your video on it a few weeks back lol
You read It happened one summer XDDD AHHHH!! Hats off to you!! I feel the same as you did about the book XD 'baby''. I have been waiting for your video !!!!! THANK YOUUUU for making my morning amazing
Tessa Bailey writes my favorite romance novels, and boy howdy does she get silly with it on the smut. She clearly has so much fun writing it. I think Jen DeLuca writes really fun romances that are light on smut but big on fun big characters. She has a series of them about a group of people who work at a summer Ren Faire that I would highly recommend.
I absolutely loved this video. I got so many good recommendations! Thanks, Cari. You're my favorite. Your videos calm my mind in the chaos of this world. ❤️
No way I'm disappearing all cats for just a single day of life. Go ahead and kill me now, it's not worth it. Dude needed to be a more shrewd negotiator. Perhaps immortality in exchange for cats disappearing for a single day.
Its just the chaotic energy of gideon but even MORE confusing and with characters that are so odd theyre hard to love? At least with gideon you fell in love with the other people! This is just CONFUSION.
Happy to catch this video and thank you for taking the time to make it! I know it has been a hard few weeks and sending you good vibes , if you need a break please take it there is no pressure. I love all of your recommendations and you are a big factor for getting back into reading, I can't believe you read IHOS, im with you about "Baby" not for me. Also!! wow an ACOSF video.. i put it on the back end of my TBR as you mentioned that you wouldn't make a video lol... guess i better start soon.
I’m SO SO glad you liked Jackal. I had a feeling you’d be into that one. (Also, still CRACKING UP that you survived the Tessa Bailey signature dirty talk in It Happened One Summer! hahahahahaha!)
I don't know if you've read it (im new to the channel) but i saw you read Heartless and I would recommend Marissa Meyer's Renegades Trilogy. One of my all time favorite book series and I highly recommend. It would also be a fun one to do the explanation videos on because there's a lot of plot and little things that are good to pick up on but it's not insanely hard to follow.
Hi Cari! I really enjoy your book summary videos (the ones you did for the Crescent City books CRACKED me UP) would you ever consider doing them for the Caraval books?
I sort of did the sjm books cause i know people have issues with sjm and dont want to support her BUT i deffo want people to read caraval and support stephanie and experience it themselves so 🥹🙏
I was so excited for Wisteria Society and Gentlewitches, preordered them both but sadly they really disappointed me. I've never read a long form book in that literary style and it made it so hard to care about any of the characters. I can think of a few movies that have that style of narration that are fun but this just didn't work for me
yeah thats why i could really only enjoy wisteria society. by the time i read gentlewomen witches i was so lost and so overwhelmed by the writing style :/
i've actually got one of grady hendrix's other books (we sold our souls) becoming available at my library in about a week!! dowry of blood has been on my tbr for a while (especially now that dracula daily is over) so i'll keep an eye out for it! highlights for me this month were annihilation by jeff vandermeer (best to go in with no spoliers!), the seven moons of maali almeida by shehan karunatilaka (heavy subject matter but once you get used to the book it's really really good, plus there's dark humour!), and leech by hiron ennes (again, lots of very severe content warnings, but if you want a wintery horror book this is the pick). currently about a third of the way through sea of tranquility! i see what you mean about jumping back and forth between characters, each section feels like just the right length but i also wish they were longer 😅
My Best Friend's Exorcism is one of my favorite books! Grady Hendrix writes girls so well that it's a little baffling sometimes. The movie doesn't do it justice. I would love to hear your thoughts on the book!
The second book in the Tessa Bailey story Is really nice too. But i liked the first one a Lot, even if it Is a romance lol. Ali hazelwood Is also great for me, read them all, they aré all similar but whatever, does the job
Honestly, “It happened one summer” doesn’t sound like a terrible book. I tend to avoid books with covers that look Like That, but maybe I’ve been missing out?
OOO i love the hairstyle this video!!!! i’ve been waiting for this months wrap up 🥹 i hope you’re doing okay & you are able to take a break or do whtvr u need in order to feel safe & comfortable online. i went thru a really bad experience online a few years ago so ik it can be overwhelming. tbh after i started watching your videos and being in the book community i’ve only recently felt more comfortable on social media. We appreciate you and thank you for the time u spend making videos for us!!!
I was dying throughout the last part of the video, we have the same problems with reading smut. Like I can handle smut, but It Happened One Summer was so bad. One second we have this really nice romantic scene and the very next one the smut is like a really low tier porn and I was cringing so badly about it. Just, such a change in writing and... WHY. Ali's books I won't even start with, because I have opinions and we would be here all day :D
