I'm so happy you put these in one video! Zuko's confrontation scene with Ozai is my favourite scene in the whole show, and one my favourite moments in TV history. Zuko finally realised that he didn't need to feel any shame, he didn't have to blame himself for the way his father treated him. He finally realised that his father's love shouldn't have to be earned, it should be freely given. And he finally realised that what Ozai did to him was wrong, and there's no excusing it. He used to think he brought it on himself for being weak, and Ozai was just treating him according to his own failures. Now that he realised he didn't deserve his trauma, he can finally start healing from it. And it's about time Ozai gets told to sit down and shut up 😂

These episodes definitely belonged together and I'm still not over Zuko and Ozai's scene, the animation was just phenomenal and I feel like I could watch it frame by frame and be able to pick up so much detail about it. The dialogue building up to the lightning was so amazing, both with how it was written and acted, the subtly to the voice acting in Zuko's voice and the sharp biting tongue of Ozai were great. Hearing Zuko confess all this was so satisfying and it makes you immediately trust him as he's telling it to the source of his problems, there is no going back for Zuko after this and I'm so happy her burnt this bridge and set himself free. It's also so cool that Zuko got to at least knock back Ozai and expose that he is just a regular person, can't wait to see him fight Aang and I'm sure he's super powerful but it's nice that Zuko got to shut him down and humanism him, he isn't this super powerful figure that's been built up in Aang's mind and he can falter.

@@benspiller Did you notice that Ozai said "Your uncle has gotten to you, hasn't he?" as an insult, smirking when he says it, thinking this makes Zuko weak or soft. But Zuko doesn't take it as an insult. He is happy and proud to say "Yes. He has". Zuko wears that as a bade of honour now, happy that he was able to take on Iroh's lessons, and Ozai can't hurt him with those remarks anymore because Zuko knows kindness is a good thing.

Best way to explain Aang's comment of what happened to his chakra is his scar is the problem. The spine is the center of the chakra network, the damage and scar tissue is blocking it. The Avatar State can't activate unless Aang's chakra network is fully open.
@benspiller
@benspiller 3 месяца назад
Ohhhh, so the physical scar this whole time was meant to be a reminder that he can't use the Avatar state as it shows there was a strike to his spine. Makes me wonder how that's gonna get solved then cause even Spirit Water didn't take it away but at least brought him back to life.

Sokka with the wolf armor brings things back full circle to the first episodes of Season 1, when he had just the animal paint on his face when defending the village.

Yes!! I was trying to remember where the wolf imagery came from as I think he also had that face paint in the flashback with his dad so now it links back to the very beginning is so awesome! Now he just needs to get a massive Arctic Wolf Bear or something to ride into battle to match his armour.

34:34 The comic books expand on Ozai's morality a lot. He has the typical "mercy and compassion are weaknesses" viewpoint of many villains, but adds to it by thinking that the Firelord has the divine right to do whatever the f*ck they want to.
@benspiller
@benspiller 3 месяца назад
Yes and honestly I love how simply they presented it while also making it super deep in the detail, it showed off where this mindset has come from as Azula is literally a mini him, he is raising her probably exactly how he was raised which speaks more to this divine right to rule being backed up through lineage.

26:19 The part we ALL wanted to hear, we probably both thought was going to eventually happen and simultaneously never happen. Almost surreal in a way.

YES!! I've been really wanting it to happen but it felt so cliché with all the kids teaming up but I love it so much after everything that's happened! It feels so earned and I know it's definitely going to be difficult to integrate but they've made this feel so worth it and satisfying!!!

I like how at least tecnology wise the Fire Nation now has masterd the 4 elements before the Avatar Earth- their land army and tanks control Ba Sing Se and the earth Kingdom Water- their gigantic Navy controls all the seas and now Air- their airforce blimps controll the skys The Fire Nation really cooked for 100 years making the greatest army in the world
@benspiller
@benspiller 3 месяца назад
I didn't even realise this but your right, the Fire Nation literally used their technology to take advantage over the other elements which is very impressive honestly and pretty smart on their part.

I was really proud of Sokka here, even though the invasion plan was foiled. He is the one who brought all their allies together.

Sokka's moment was so great! Loved this little arc he got and I think it's the start of the show trying to make it more clear that the characters are growing up, Katara has always been the Mother figure of the group but she's been getting more mature as she learned to be a kid again and become more well rounded, and now Sokka has taken this position and it's made it so clear what kind of person Sokka will be when he grows up.

It's funny how Ozai with his hair down completes the image of him being Azula's father.

Clearly you forgot that Azula (and therefore the fire nation) knew about the invasion for a while. The earth king told Azula back in season 2 when she was pretending to be a kyoshi warrior.

What would be Aang’s plan of what to do with Ozai after defeating him? Maybe it’s a good thing that Aang didn’t find Ozai then, since I don’t think he had a plan. They didn’t know that the invasion was doomed to fail. I kinda wished Mai and Ty Lee were there with Azula because it would explain why Mai wasn’t at her house when Zuko left the letter. Azula didn’t count on Zuko telling Ozai that she lied.
@benspiller

The more I think about it the more I like that they failed here, it allowed them to learn about the nation pretty well and it got Sokka into a more leadership position, better that happened here so he's ready for the actual final. As for the plan for after, I don't think Aang has even mentioned that yet 😂 It's definitely something I want to get explored so I hope the show will go into it and won't just end with Ozai's defeat. True, didn't notice Mai and Ty Lee weren't with Azula and weren't at home, you'd assume since Mai is part of a high-class family she'd be in the bunker too and if so why wasn't she with Azula? I can't wait to see what Ozai will do to Azula now he knows she lied, their relationship is so interesting with it being a negative relationship but they both benefit from it, I really want to see what Ozai will do with this revelation and if it'll change anything.

They did not have to flesh out Ozai because we already know Azula. They just show the apple fell close to the tree, and make clear that as an adult, he is even more powerful, unhinged, cruel and manipulative than she is. There's your terrifying end boss! Aang would have died of double lighting bolts in a split second if he had gone trough with his plan. It's very concise writing. Not a line of dialog in this episode and actually, most episodes of this show that does not do its work, and yet it never feels forced or contrived.
@benspiller

Yeah after finishing the episode I'm so glad they didn't explore Ozai because all I need to know is that he's a monster, at first it felt too little but through Zuko's confrontation it became amazing. That whole scene made it clear that this man is human but is so vile and full of evil, that there is not good inside him with how he treated his son, there is no justification or remorse for what he did and as a result of this scene, Ozai realised banishment was too good for Zuko and instead wanted to kill him. Azula offers a closer look into him but she's also her own character, I think she basically provides the option to get to know Ozai more as this episode cemented that I simply don't need to, Azula is a window to I'd assume how Ozai was raised and Azula is simply a copy of that. It's honestly blowing my mind how much detail was in this episode and you're right, not one line of dialogue was wasted which is absolutely insane!
