Just wanted to let you know that Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen are brothers in case you weren’t aware of that

And the actor Martin Sheen is their father. Estevez decided to use their original family name. All three are Cuban-Americans.
@inhonoroftrip6320

Actually, Martin Sheen’s father is a Spanish immigrant, and his mother an Irish immigrant. Martin felt he faced racism early on in his career for work because of his official name, so he went by Martin Sheen professionally. You are correct that Emilio (and their sister, Renee) uses his official name professionally, while Charlie followed Martin’s example for his professional name (except in the movie Machete Kills, where he is credited as Carlos Estevez)

31:42 - That phrase, "There's many a slip 'twixt the cup and a lip", implies that even when a good outcome or conclusion seems certain, things can still go wrong. It's similar to the phrase, "Don't count your chickens before they hatch". Perhaps even akin to ' Murphy's Law" (anything that can go wrong will go wrong). Another way of saying the phrase would be, "Many thing fall between the cup and the mouth". Haha, like you're about to drink a nice cold mug of beer, and just before you put it to your lip, a bug flies right into it, and you swallow that bug. Nothing is as certain as it seems. A few things guys. The Sheen's family name is actually Estevez. Charlie and Emilio are brothers. Their dad is actor Martin Sheen. He changed his name for professional reasons. Charlie used the new name and Emilio used the original. Emilio was the jock in Breakfast Club and the Ducks coach. The guy Billy killed in the bar - Billy asked to touch the guys gun so he could empty it. Charlie did go to see a special lady. While he married a young Mexican woman the woman he asked to just hold him is believed to have been his mother. She didn't know he was her son. It is believed widely by many that Pat Garrett felt so guilty about his betrayal that he simply told people that he killed Billy so nobody would keep searching for the kid, but let Billy escape. The legend is that it was Billy himself who carved Pals on the headstone, and that he lived to be an old man. Oh and it is said that Billy was not left-handed. That story got started because one of the few photos of him with a gun got reversed in printing and made him appear to be a lefty. There are so many great westerns. Try some John Wayne classics. The Cowboys, The Shootist, McClintock, Rio Bravo and maybe Big Jake. Oh and if you watch Wayne's movie Chisum you will get more of Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett too. One of the great westerns of all time as well is one called The Magnificent Seven. Great cast and story!!

This film covers a lot of actual history - how Mr. Tunstall (an Englishman) provided home and lodging for runaway boys, how the rivalry between his operation and Murphy's lead to Tunstall's ambush, the boys were deputized to arrest the murderers and began a process of revenge against Murphy. That was the beginning of the short career of Billy the Kid. Several other members of the Regulators are based on real people, as is the lawyer and his wife who attempt to support Tunstall. Even the gun battles and who was killed at each are based on historic reports - who was killed, and where it happened. The more one knows about the life of William H. Bonney (Billy the Kid), the more you can admire about the screenplay, which really stuck closely to the history.

There are two gravesites for Billy the Kid. One is in Ft Sumner, New Mexico. That is where the man that was killed by Pat Garrett is buried. There's also a grave in Hamilton, Texas of a man named Brushy Bill Roberts. He died in 1950 at the age of 71. He claimed to be Billy the Kid. He said that Pat Garrett let him go (they were supposedly friends at some point) and passed the body of someone else off as Billy the Kid to claim the $500 reward. It was never proven that Brushy Bill was in fact Billy the Kid though.

There are survival myths concerning several notorious outlaws of this period and later. Billy the Kid and Jesse James are both rumored to have actually lived to a ripe old age. John Dillinger can also be added to this list, along with a Robin Hood like bootlegger and gangster who is famous (infamous) in my area of Southern Illinois, Charlie Birger. And who's to say the stories aren't true in some cases if not all. It wouldn't have been all that hard to do back in those days. Even law enforcement was often sympathetic to or under the influence of these men. In the case of Charlie Birger, because of death threats from a rival gang, led by the Shelton Brothers, he was allowed to keep a fully loaded Thompson machine gun in his cell during his stay in jail awaiting his date with the gallows. He promised the sherriff he wouldn't try to escape, and everyone knew Charlie Birger's word was gold. This was in 1928. Please, do watch Young Guns 2. For more on Jesse James there are The Long Riders and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Public Enemies is a good look into the Great Depression era criminals with Johnny Depp as John Dillinger.

@@jackbrooks5487 Yep, I don't doubt any of it, nor do I necessarily believe any of it. It's a fascinating period of history that makes for some great stories. I'm just saying that the widely accepted truth among the general public going into this movie was that Garrett took him down.

You all made me laugh so hard with your reaction it was like being back in h.s. and seeing it for the first time all over again. The scenes with the two brothers Emilio Estevez (Breakfast Club, Mighty Ducks) and Charlie Sheen are so viscerally real that people thought that they really hated each other. They had to do a buddy comedy Men at Work later to show that they were PALS. They are the sons of Martin Sheen (formerly Estevez), the amazing star of Apocalypse Now. Acting runs in their DNA. Kiefer Sutherland is the son of Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, both actors. And Lou Diamond Phillips (Chavez) was the star of La Bamba - The Ritchie Valens movie. I hope you guys react to Young Guns II, it's almost as good as this one and it continues with the Billy the Kid mythology.
