Just a note… the lyrics don’t say “I did something bad” the lyrics are “they say I did something bad, but why does it feel so good”. In other words how can it be bad if it all feels right. That being said at times I think she is definitely leaning into the assertion that she did something bad but saying if she did she was justified (eg with narcissists and people who have fake relationships to capitalize on her fame). But she does not actually say she did something bad, just that’s what others say abut her. And the light me up isn’t saying she is willing to take it because she did the bad thing and it was worth it. That bridge is playing on the history of burning accursed witches at the stake when it was undeserved. I believe she is playing into the message in a number of songs especially Look what You Made Me Do, that you can crucify her all you want and she will come back from the dead stronger than ever so go ahead and light me up. There’s far more to the lyrics and messages in all her songs, but I always find it is interesting that most people in first time reactions to this song actually miss the key part of the lyrics that say “they say” and those 2 words make all the difference in interpreting this song.

What this song was about is how people will judge her and say she's the bad one for coming out on top in out playing the same game as her so called " victims " are. It's about how she knows she's going to be persecuted and villainized no matter what she does so she's embracing it and becoming exactly what they think she is . She's saying you want make me the witch in your witch hunt then I will be one ...light me up !!!

I think some people believe she actually is a witch! (So I read 😂) She's so good live, this is when I really got into her music, after seeing this concert on tv and watching some interviews. She's so talented, intelligent and beautiful. I hope she gets her love story, she would be the best mum
