The last night of the proms is always more informal and funny, after weeks of classical music. The singers dress up, sing old sea songs, Jerusalem, let off balloons and the audience loves it and join in. It's also fun for children and a good way to introduce classical music.

I love watching The Proms, this clip always makes me smile. Glad you enjoyed it too. Those pops you heard are called party poppers. They shoot some coloured paper out

You know a song is really good when they sing a small part of it immediately after singing the whole thing! ;)

Just a point about the lyrics, it's Rule the Waves not rules , one letter can make a big difference to the meaning of a sentence, hope most of you understand the difference I'm sure you do .

It's an opera sound of singing...her voice is beautiful ... I love opera music but it's kind if idiot savant because I don't know tenors sopranos or the rest ... just the cumulative sound of opera ❤

Brilliant, but I think to really appreciate the Last Night Of The Proms, you just have to be there amongst the audience to soak up the atmosphere,

I think they sing "Jerusalem" at England cricket....Rule Britannia is more to do with the Hanoverians vs the Jacobites....

@yozzer6449

But, it is a cautionary, not a triumphant statement. While we rule the waves we won't be slaves to anyone. These days it isn't warships on the high seas, but nuclear powered and armed submarines under them that keep the tyrants at bay.
@somthingbrutal
@somthingbrutal Год назад
@@yozzer6449 erm we were the tyrants, that comes with an empire that spans the globe. we are most definitely not a first class power in the world these days
@poppypalais3108
@poppypalais3108 Год назад
@@somthingbrutal It was written before the British Navy became the most powerful in the world. It was sung more a celebration of the navy being able to deter slavers from taking british people in raids. (Though it's original meaning appears to have been commenting on the royal family of the time.) For over 300 years raiders from North Africa took slaves from Britain and other european countries, something which doesn't get much of a mention these days. Perhaps people from Devon and Cornwall should be asking Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia for reparations.
