It’s definitely Nate not his Dad most people tend to think that it’s his Dad so you’re not alone in thinking that. I’m assuming the woman behind him at the end is suppose to portray his wife. When he’s looking at himself in the casket to me it symbolizes that he left himself down and didn’t reach his potential because the voices in his head controlled him as he was growing up. He felt he let himself down because he couldn’t get it together mentally. That’s atleast how I take it. You’re getting very close to The Search now I know you are going by the list you were given but I and I believe many others would love if you did the whole album. I believe The Search deserves an entire song by song breakdown. If you really wanna know what he went through and has been through then the entire album is a must. I kinda assumed it had to be Nate after seeing the ending. The REAL tattoo kinda gave it away but also confused me and brought a whole bunch of new questions with it.

@@DevLethal Chris is spitting facts on all accounts. The song is a self reflection of Nate not feeling like he’s done, or is doing, enough to reach his full potential because he can’t overcome the negative /self doubt thoughts and emotions that consume his mind (“Mansion”). I feel like that’s the curse of a great artist and why so many people relate with Nate. He brings us into his mindset and shares what most people relate to, or have related to at some point in their own lives. Also, to Chris’s point, The Search album in it’s entirety is worth a listen… he brings things full circle in some songs (referencing stuff he talked about on his first album), and takes you deeper into understanding why he raps about what he does… you also get some flexing, and talk shit…. Which, for me are least, was dope to experience because it’s almost as if he’s allowing himself to be finally be put into the category with some of these bigger names (where I think he belongs anyway)… The Search in my opinion is like the birth of NF…. He doesn’t hold any punches and you can witness the elevations not just in his mind state, but also his skill with the mic….. enjoy the journey, love your reactions!

Its a double meaning his parents werent there for him and hes looking back on his younger self saying he let himself down. Its old nf remembering all the times he felt like he was drowing, on fire but could never help himself. He left it open so everyone could relate to it whether you have let yourself down or your parents have let you down. Gotta love NF

This is the first song I ever heard from NF. I caught the chorus before getting it of the car. The lyrics stuck with me so much that I googled the song. Then I dove into his catalogue. I've been a fan ever since! That high pitched voice is also NF

The song has a double meaning. It's about him not only disappointing his dad but also himself. The symbolism of the video is that all NF was wanting was his father's approval. And it brought him down that no matter how hard he tried, it wasn't enough for his dad. When NF is drowning and in the car on fire, it's symbolism for how his dad can save him by just saying something like "I'm proud" but his dad still didn't see it. This is why his dad had a blank face the whole video. And in the end, when he opened the casket to see NF, he was totally surprised and kind of realized it. That he pushed him over the edge. That him not being proud of his son, he ended up dying. and when he opened the casket he kind of realizes that he could've saved his son but it's too late. and that's why his dad reactede the way he did while opening the casket. And at the end when the woman shouts "Nathan", it also symbollises that he not only let down his father, but he also let down himself. And how he spend his whole life trying to be good enough for himself and still coming short.

That's NF remembering his past and regrets for what he didn't try to change when he and his parent's had a falling out because of a relationship they were basically making him choose between them or her, and he just left and they just wanted him around regardless if he was happy or not, and that is why it's saying like you weren't there for me when i was drowning and my life crashed and went up in flames i was just looked down on telling me i need to do better like i didn't already know, even after dropping everything to help and be there when i was needed and the sibling wasn't, "To continue giving more only to receive less"! Then him in the coffin was the person he was and finally let go of past but it being to late.

This song sings like its his father, but the video is Nate, looking back on his struggles that he went through, not being able to change what happened, and feeling bad for that, Like in the song Nate, when he's talking to his 6 yr old self, not wanting to feel bad for him because then he'd feel bad for himself, and we just don't deserve that. Been watching you since the beginning of your journey. Think you had maybe 400 subs at the time. Nf brought me here, always love to watch people discover him for the first time. I watched the official video 3 times before I caught it, my son confirmed for me last year... it is supposed to be NF when he is older. A lot of reactors I have watched didn't catch it at first either. Great reaction and love your energy and excitement when things hit you!

basically the old guy is NF, He wrote the song because as a kid he felt like his voice was never heard and he was letting himself down by trying to talk. He also thought he was letting everyone else down that was around him.
