@Frostfyre7

@@fangirlalliecat It is so obvious, too, that he is having SO MUCH FUN playing Dracula. (Actually, it mostly looked like everyone was having a ball. They knew it was cheesy (in a good way) and just had a blast playing it. It's one of the reasons I love the movie so much. (Although I am very bummed that we never learned more about this version of Van Helsing's backstory--though I think it is a teeny bit clear they were angling for angel or angel-like being, *especially* if you read the novelization where it mentions scars on his back--leaving it that mysterious lets people come up with their own theories :D)

@@minnie9107some of the only ones I could even begin to imagine is dog soldiers for its practical effects or some newer movies that were okay but wouldn’t lay a finger on Jackmans werewolf, a good one is “werewolf: the beast among us” But genuinely my mom showed me werwolves before I was in kindergarten so werewolves have always been my favorite. I’ll go out of my way sometimes to watch a single episode of a foreign show because I’ve heard it has a decent werewolf in it. From the budget films with shitty masks that are just downright awful to 80s, 90s, to present day I’ve watched just about all of them. Still gotta say van helsing is my favorite picturing of the body type of a werewolf but, underworld: rise of the lycans is a super super close second because it’s cgi and practical effects taking place in a time where there were no guns makes them just that scarier since you have to use swords and arrows. A good werewolf just truly needs to have an elongated snout and stand on just hind legs. None of the twilight dire wolf looking bs. Only movies I can really name that can pull the flattened face off are the original and remake of the wolf man purely because that was how they intended it based off the original. End of violently stoned werewolf rant (p.s. the difference in amount of werewolf movies and shows compared to vampires just makes me feel like no one else really wants more like me☹️ )

Van Helsing character originated from Bram Stoker's Dracula, the most influential vampire fiction ever written. Which goes without saying, you should react to the movie as well! This a rare genre combining elements of steampunk/gothic, fantasy, and action/adventure. The other movie similar to this that I can think of is 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' (starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton!). The movie kinda went under the radar but if you guys like guns, that movie is a steampunk guns galore 😂 It's fkin awesome.

One of my favorite Hugh Jackman movies. It really blew my mind to learn that Robbie Coltrane (AKA Harry Potter's Rubeus Hagrid) did the voice and facial motion capture modeling for Mr. Hyde. I love the brides, Van Helsing's werewolf form and the look of Frankenstein's Monster

A bit of a bonus I know you'll like. Hyde was portrayed by the late Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) and Jekyll by Dwight Schultz (Murdock from The A Team) Carl (Van Helsing's monk buddy) is David Wenham, aka Faramir in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Such a great movie. I remember watching it over and over when it debuted. And many years after! It was fun running through the castle and seeing the lab at Universal Studios in LA with those minions running around 😂

My brother and I's favorite movie growing up. We watched this endlessly. Still do every now and then. The creatures design in this is TOP NOTCH. I don't think there has ever been a better werewolf design.

Seeing this, Underworld movies and the other reactions I think you may like to watch Penny Dreadful series. It's combining many similar themes and it's very well done. Definitely hidden gem for today's audience.

I second this. It's crazy how anyone I've ever brought it up to has never heard of that series. Such a hidden gem for sure.

This movie always reminds me of the first time I ever went to Universal Hollywood for Halloween. There was a Van Helsing haunted house you could walk through. Specifically Draculas fortress. The movie just came out, so it was very popular. At the end of the maze you get chased by a 7 foot werewolf that looked like the one in this and it was terrifying! The affects were amazing for the time. 😅 Had to have been 2005 or 2006. So fun. I think there’s still videos of it online.

If you like these classic, gothic monsters, the "Penny Dreadful" series is an absolute must-see. It has an outstanding cast, and is genuinely creepy. I think you all would really enjoy that show.

From monster design to casting to writing this movie is just a blast to watch. Humorous, yet still filled with an assortment of feeling and action. The music also deserves an honorable mention. It's not by any means a great movie, but it's a solid watch with some incredible scenes and choices when it comes to world design.

This is a great movie, I loved watching this growing up (and I still do). I wish they made a sequel to this movie, even a reboot (just to see these specific characters again and explore its lore more). And while there is a Van Helsing series on Netflix, it actually has nothing to do with this movie. Something I love about this movie is its lore (like I mentioned earlier), we see that Van Helsing is the Archangel Gabriel (that is why Dracula called him both Gabriel and the Left Hand of God). And he is actually very old despite his appearance, I am curious to know when Van Helsing became human (which I assume is when he lost his memories) because if he became human right before or after he killed Dracula the first time (when Dracula was human) then Van Helsing doesn't age, but if he became human recently before the events of this movie then that might make a little more sense. Maybe that's why he became human, to help Anna (one of the last of her family) kill Dracula so her and her family can finally enter heaven (he just couldn't remember that after he became human, maybe because as an ancient Archangel he would have a massive number of memories that maybe his human mind couldn't handle). Also, it's weird (and gross) that Dracula tried to make Anna (one of his decedents) his bride, I get that he probably came from a time in which marrying distant relatives was acceptable, but it's still gross. Regardless, this is still a great movie, and I would still like to see you guys react to other werewolf movies, like; "Wolfman" (the 1941 and the 2010 versions), "An American Werewolf in London 1981," "Wolf 1994", and "Werewolf of London 1935." "Dracula Untold 2014," "Bram Stoker's Dracula 1992," and "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein 1994" would also be great movies to see you guys react to as well.

Hell yeah! Been waiting for this reaction for quite sometime. Love that more and more people are giving this movie the attention it deserved! I've always loved this movie and never understood why people hated it. Used to watch it all the time on DVD when I was growing up. This is the ultimate call back to the classic universal monster flicks of the 20's-40's minus The Invisible Man, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Mummy. The opening scene is even in black & white before switching to color. Van Helsing is such a fun movie with some really good action scenes and cheesy moments. I also like the practical and CGI effects, even though sometimes they don't look the best. One of my favorite highlights was the musical score by Alan Silvestri. It reminded me alot of The Mummy Returns. Its one of his most underrated soundtracks! The only real part I don't like much is the treatment of Kate's character. She keeps getting smacked in the face so many times to the point its a goof despite the fact that her character CAN kick some ass. I mean... she's not Selene but still!

I love the dialogue of Van Helsing and Carl about The Monster. "I'm staring at him! Is that a man?" "Several men! Parts of them, anyway." XD Edit: Also, Hugh Jackman Werewolf is hecking hawt. Velkin Werewolf, not so much. The initial werewolf was pretty too XD
