This ending is the hardest for everyone that never played the original game, because not only do you experience the death of an important character, but Cloud is completely losing it, making it a really dark, sad ending. In the OG, you didn't have to wait to find out what happens next, whereas with the Remake trilogy, it'll be 3-4 years before the final game comes out. It's only been 5 months since Rebirth came out, but it already feels like forever!
I totally get that. It is also really hard for those who played OG , we have since remake part1 had this false hope that we could save her, there have been hints. And we been dreading this moment for so long, maybe this time it will be different.... when Cloud stops his sword I was so happy, but then..... no.... and it starts settling in what is going on, it is really heartbreaking. When I started fighting Jenova and Aerith music started playing (it does that in the OG) I knew for sure that she was gone. I cried while fighting that boss xD. How they managed to subvert expectations, and make OG players feel intensely some kind of way, a second time after 30 years. Absolutely genius storytelling imo, and I am so glad they did this and not 100% did the same thing.
i have yet to find anyone knowning wtf is happening in new players , so i dont think this is correct , everyone who played the OG knows that Cloud is not well , while new players still wondering what fuck is is going on
@@mangomariel Creator already confirmed that these remakes don't change if the movie was canon it will solidify it. Which means how Zack and Aerith end up being sort of shepherds of those who return to the planet.
True... ._. Never played OG and bought Remake+Rebirth as bundle shortly before Rebirth released, So I could play the first two parts (and even Crisis Core in between) close together. Now the waiting after that Ending is kind of hard. I mean, I'm around in the Net for a while and Even tho I never played OG, I heard about Aerith before. Somehow I got convinced they changed it in the Remake and apparently some stuff is changed indeed but not this particular "Detail" I guess. ._.
I played the original in 1997. I was 16 and Aerith’s death was hard. Remember shedding tears as she sank into the water. Being a full grown man at the age of 43, I steeled myself up for it this time. Not gonna cry over some polygons. Nope…Tifa crying broke me…I cried through most of the credits. Sadness and joy swirling around for what I experienced. What a game!
The Aerith dream date is so beautiful yet sad when you know what's coming. Aerith knew her time was limited and wanted to spend some of her last moments happy with Cloud. First time I played it I was basically holding back tears. The music and everything. It was perfection. Not sure if you noticed but the song playing during the date is a rendition of the song Aerith sings. It's called "One last date - my dream." And Aerith's smile after "I got this." Pain. Also just a small tidbit. Cloud responds slightly differently during the church scene depending on whether or not you got one of the two Aerith dates at the Gold Saucer. If you had gotten her Cloud responds more positively to "Oh, next time?" Instead of saying "I mean why not?" and looking indifferent he says "yeah next time" and turns towards Aerith with them both smiling at each other before the scene goes back to "at least I know now where you and I stand."
Its not her dream its another world, another reality .... this is another Aerith...she gives him her white materia that is still active in her world....but a world that is already doomed......She gives him her white materia so Cloud can bring the White materia back to his reality and give it to the Aerith of his World, because her white materia has lost power. Sephiroth explained it all. *The planet encompasses a multitude of worlds, ever unfolding.* There are basically infinite Aerith's, Clouds, Biggs, Barrett's etc...living in different realities basically every time a person makes a CHOICE ( A or B or C etc ) a new world is created where the person picked B instead of A or C instead of B etc It's actually a really interesting idea to put into a RPG story
The final chapter of this game was the cherry on top - it was basically nothing but brand new story content, through and through. Cloud and party still fight Jenova and Sephiroth, but of course the way the death scene is handled opens up new possibilities, as well. That final chapter was a heck of a ride! Wonder if Zack will make it out alive, by the end of part 3? It seems that destiny always gets its way, in the end.
I so badly wanted to give you a hug at the end. I was just a little kid when I played the original and I could not really process what happened. I had never seen a game kill a main character before. And there was no real ambiguity back then, the tech didn't really allow for it. There was just the act of it then the music. Her theme playing over the fight with Jenova. I remember dying like 10 times to the Jenova fight cause I was crying so hard. But all this is why this game is so revered, its a perfect storm of music and story and character that make you so attached to these characters that you feel so much for what happens to them. And this is true of most all of the FF games, there is just something unique and special about them. But what happened before is not necessarily what will happen in the final game. Its so far not so different but there ARE differences. At this point no one can really say what is what. That Aerith is dead seems hard to argue. Is Cloud completely nuts and she is in his head? Is it Aerith actually communicating with him through the lifestream? Is it Aerith in a different timeline reaching out to him? Any of those could be viable or none. The writers very smartly gave us something to chew on for the next 2-3 years while they wrap up this epic story. What I can say for certain is some incredible things still wait for you in the next game, so as the japanese devs love to say "please look forward to it!".
I felt that her death scene in the PS1 game left me much more traumatized. There wasn't any voice acting, so they had to rely on character expressions and reactions; it haunted me to see Aerith's eyes fly open into a straight-ahead-death-stare, as Sephiroth removed his sword from her impaled body and the life left her. It further wrecked me to see a sad Tifa adjusting the placement of Aerith's hair and/or touching her face, just before she runs away crying.
"I don't want this game to end" I remember that feeling on the original game so many years ago. Got through 2 discs, got to just before the final fight and just went "no, I am not ready", saved the game, sat there for a moment, then popped back in Disc 1 and hit "new game". I just had to do once more from the top before I was ready to complete.
Seriously I think Final Fantasy 7 have the most sadness death of all times, I played the original as a kid and I cried a waterfall for aerith's death, As a adult I played the original and, I cried a waterfall again, Rebirth comes out and the waterfall return😭😭😭
And it hits just as hard because Rebirth gives you mixed signals on the extent to which fate can be changed. I really didn't know if we could have saved her until it happened.
Yes Aerith died just like in the original... but here in this game , because of the MULTIPLE WORLDs theory... we see that when Cloud blocked Sephiroth's sword, then again the RAINBOW effect showed up, this effect seems to happen when another world is created This means that in another reality Cloud blocked the attack and Aerith survives. I bet we will see more of that in the last part of the game when it comes out. around 2028
Hope you are not right cause Aerith deserved to die 👍 She was such an useless Char, Sephiroth, the Owner of the planet, did a great job 👍 Long lives the One winged Angel 💪
Without spoiling anything I can safely say part 3 will be a roller coaster ride from start to finish. As much as I love disc 1 of the original, all the major plot points happen after the Temple of the Ancients
in the OG important story parts comes after some events after the Glacier, this is where the story plots hits hard (mideel events are gonna be so cool)
This was my first FF game I have ever played. Still amazed at how great this game was. I just really want to know part 3 will have a happy ending. The wait is killing me.
@@tylersoles6811 I don't want to spoil you and pretty sure we'll get a new ending that aligns with the original, but the original ending usually has me smiling in tears
This popped up on recommendations. Definitely gonna watch your play through before finishing this. Though it saddens me when the best soundtrack ever is the lowest volume setting :( ever since the original and especially in the OG music is a big part of the story telling. Great reaction and subbed.
I knowww I am so sorry about the music being at the lowest volume. I do think the music has a huge impact on the game. Sadly I kept getting copyrighted on my FF7 Rebirth videos because of the music I also saw some other ytubers getting copyrighted while playing this game :(
Now to wait for pt 3. Definitely GOTY for this year! Definitely recommend you play the OG tho to get a better understanding of what’s going on with the split timelines.
There's a going theory that, when Cloud deflected Sephiroth, he created a branching timeline for Aerith to survive in. She dies in the main “Rebirth” timeline while surviving in this “Deflection” timeline. The evidence to this is the rainbow/prism effect that occurs at the moment of deflection. This same effect is used to show every time Zack makes a decision a rainbow/prism effect occurs. Tifa can see both timelines at once as she runs up to where Cloud and Aerith are. It's suspected that she can see both because she fell into the Gongaga reactor and was exposed to the Mako/Lifestream. As for her not being able to see both later, it's suspected that she can only see both in the moment it's happening because she didn't have as intense of a Mako exposure as Cloud did for his SOLDIER process. This is why Cloud can see the tear in the sky, similar to the one in Zack's timeline, and no one else can. Some people say that all of this is just happening in Clouds head because he's losing it. However, FF7 Rebirth Ultimania has been released and the Devs have commented that, instead of the story being narrated by the unreliable narrator (Cloud), we have an unreliable world. Also, the Devs have implied that they intend for their to be a happy ending for all the characters in Part 3.
Thank you so much for informing me of that. Honestly the whole multiple timelines are very confusing but you helped clear that up more. I really do hope everyone gets a happy ending in part 3 cause this game had me heartbroken lol
Firstimer FFVII player but playing the remake: She's fine. She's dead? Oh she's ok. Is she really dead?! Thanks God she's alive. Please tell me she's fine? Yeah she's fine. No, is she really dead? She has.... Fine. Please tell me she's ok? She can't be dead!! So she's fine She's not really dead, where is she? WHAT IS HAPPENING. I'M SO CONFUSED Meanwhile the OG players: Seriously? Squareenix?!!
The set up after the ending has leaved things MUCH worse then the original we are in for a ride but we are also going to have the greatest rise of one of the plot moments elevated to even higher hights. The next title can not come sooner.
I don't think you noticed, but all of the dogs in each one of the scenes were different. Throughout remake and rebirth there are hints to different "timelines" or worlds that are explained through the use of different stamp dogs.
Part 3 will clear up any confusing moments, for those who haven't played the original. Will probably end up being the best in the trilogy as well. Looking forward to it.
I just finished watching your video! Thank you for sharing. I'm a huge Final Fantasy VII fan and thank you for sharing your thoughts on the story. By the way, I had trouble with Sephiroth too! The ending battle was tough. Do you think Aerith is dead?
The fight with Sephiroth took me a while to finish lol it sad to admit. I honestly don't feel like she is alive because at the end we just left her there instead of bringing her with us. Maybe in a different world she is alive but I'm still hoping that there is a chance she is alive
@Amathystt Trust me, I know how you feel! Lol lol. That last battle and before he does his last move was a pain to get through. He knocked some distance and I quickly used triple slash, and I had speed materia attached to me. I'm not going to lie, it was brutal lol lol. And for Aerith, that's very interesting you said that. I feel for some reason she's alive.. and Cloud he's losing it, doesn't look good.... have you played the original?
Seph will reunite the timelines and Aerith will be back. Proof of this is easy Aerith did not receive her great gospel limit break. That is all the proof u need to know she will be back fighting alongside everyone else probably towards the second half of the last game.
Also the timeline u think mattered is not the real timeline. Cloud saw the rip in the sky on the main timeline which means the timeline we are in at the end is a doomed one and not the real one. The real one IS the one where cloud deflected the sword and saved Aerith. Cloud just being served an imitation world by seph where Aerith died like the original. Just like seph tried to give an imitation world to Rufus as well. I just hope they do 2 endings in the third game one that ends like the OG game and a happier one where they all live. The ending you get will be based on choices you make in the game.
The ending was confusing at best but I think Cloud has actually saved Aerith. She clearly wakes up after the battle with Sephiroth. Part 3 will explain why the crew just left her in the green fields alone like that. I was a bit bummed out by that as she came to say goodbye to the crew and not one of them acknowledged her… Well except for Cloud and Red. Although she did say she had to go and pray for the planet.
I think they didn't acknowledge her because she died in their world - they can't see her. From their reactions I believe they saw the blood and her dead body. I think in the next game we'll get a flashback scene where they lay her to rest in the water (when Cloud sees her again, they're sitting by the water and everyone but him is clearly mourning). But I do have hope that there's at least another version of her in a world that Cloud created by deflecting the sword. Red sensed her, whether it's this other version of her or just her spirit I'm not too sure. But we'll surely see her again in some way in part 3. 🥺❤️
@@brileonn it looks to me that there’s alternative realities happening at the same time. Aerith died originally. Could did not have the strength to save her. The rainbow indicates that the Cloud blocking Sephiroth’s sword is the one Aerith pushed through the rainbow earlier. The death scene consisted of Aerith’s original death. But the rainbow scene is the one Cloud saves Aerith. That will be explained in Part 3 no doubt. The ending song hints at the fact that Aerith isn’t dead…
@@tvbenglishsongtranslations yes the rainbows definitely mean alternate worlds!! Can't believe we'll have to wait years to see what happens. I need her to be alive and happy, pleaseeeeee 🥲 as Zack said, who's to say the worlds can't reunite again
@@tvbenglishsongtranslations Although I generally agree, regarding the reality in which Cloud deflects the sword, however, isn't Aerith already presumably dead in that world before that point? Sephiroth entered the church to kill her right after she pushed Cloud. Don't see how in that same world Aerith makes it to the altar. Also the Aerith that Cloud deflects the sword for isn't wearing the yellow pin from that church scene world.
This is exactly true. However the cloud that saves Aerith I’m pretty sure is advent children cloud and also the one at the end that holds hands with advent children Aerith. That’s why she said ready everyone is waiting and cloud already knew that meant to hold hands like they have known each other for a very long time. So one reality Aerith is alive (the one that wakes up) and the dead one at the very end along with advent children Aerith who is world hopping. Sephiroth is also advent children seph and world hopping all over the place. 😂
Every time I find someone on RU-vid having this reaction, I just have to speak up. I'm sorry Nomura deliberately made the plot incoherent. But everyone gets emotional at this scene and then assumes the worst, myself included. But those are white whispers around Aerith when Cloud -- looking into another world (where the party disappears) -- tells her to wake up. Whispers only bother with living people who can interfere with fate, and everything about this scene said Aerith was *not* fated. Seph merged OG world with Beagle. Tifa sees both Aeriths, one wounded and one not, but Cloud saved her. She even verbally thanks him later. Remember the beginning shows that dying in one world doesn't mean real death, or Aerith would've already been dead when Seph went into the church. Remember Marlene told Zack to get Cloud a cure, and *something* happened which allowed Cloud to resist Seph's mind control and even protect Aerith, things which were not in OG because Cloud was reduced to a puppet. True Seph was blocked and then landed, but then the world switched to OG where Jenova pulled the sword out of the ground which "killed" OG Aerith. The Ultimania for Remake hints that for the majority of the game, all the "Seph" appearances are Jenova. They don't wanna "spoil" the story, but they aren't doing a good job of telling it either.
Sigh, it’d be so much better if you didn’t edit your initial encounters. Like with Jenova, I am sure you reacted to the song. It is supposed to make the battle harder, and it sounded like you probably restarted after your teammates were kicked out. Seeing how you deal with the surprises is what many of us come for. We can find anyone playing through. It’s your personality that sets you apart. Just some advice.
Yes, Aerith does die, in the PS1 original; Cloud doesn't even have a chance to try to stop Sephiroth's sword, in the game. I think that Jenova is pretending to be Aerith, after her death scene. I think that only the Aerith that fights Sephiroth and the Aerith we see at the very end of the game (saying goodbye as the Tiny Bronco flies away) is the real Aerith reaching out, from the afterlife/lifestream. In the original game, the grief over Aerith's death was one of the reasons why Cloud was motivated to stop Sephiroth and save the Planet. I'm not entirely sure how, but I think that manipulating Cloud into being in denial over Aerith's death is Jenova and Sephiroth's plan. Not sure how this fits into their end game.
The Ultimania basically spoils it that Jenova poses as Sephiroth for the ENTIRETY of Remake, except when Seph says "A touching reunion." So, no, she's not pretending to be Aerith.
I think I agree. It's implied that she knew the sacrifice that she was making with her prayer and now hearing her pray that all she cares about is keeping the others safe cemented for me the fact that she has more awareness of the situation than first appearances let on. Not sure I'd she knew she was going to do by Sephiroth's sword....the scene with Cloud in the church certainly makes that moment seem like she knew she was about to die, yet we don't know how she knew. 😊 The ending of PS1 FF7 really led me to believe that she did understand the importance of her prayer and the value of her sacrifice. I am so nervous to see how all of this will be explained, in part 3. Will we get these questions answered?
There are no other time lines, only "worlds" which are all destined to end the same way. No matter how you alter things, they always end the same just a little later. The OG world is the prime world, and everything else is just false hope.
Cloud saw the rip in the sky in the “prime world” that is because the new prime world is the one where cloud deflected the sword. For the sake of emotions, mystery and nostalgia the devs will let us play in this false world created by sephiroth until way later into part 3 where cloud will regain his memories and after we get aeriths death scene again in greater detail cloud will start to realize that he did save Aerith. Remember he was having flashbacks of aeriths death in even in part 1 of remake how would he know?? Because this cloud will probably realize he is advent children cloud who came back to save Aerith and Zack and maybe even get a sephiroth redemption at the end hey it’s possible.
I think Aerith did die. Cloud believes she’s still alive which is why he looks fine while everyone is sad. I think once the third part releases, Cloud will realize what really happened and it’ll probably break him down
This ending wasn't right at all! It looked like Aerith was saved for a moment there but then suddenly it switched to her being stabbed aftet all? HELLLLLL NO!!! I swear Aerith better still be alive in the other timeline with Zack and then the two timelines will merge together and then they'll see her again in part 3! I hope some miracle happens with Square-Enix and part 3 will release a little sooner like in 2026 or sometime next year instead of 2027.
@callmeshaggy5166 speaking of, given that Crisis Core introduced Banora White products, I wonder if Square took it as a wondrous sign, when Briana White auditioned for Aerith. The names are pretty similar!
this wont win game of the years , not with this shit ending unfortunately , it was very good until they really mess up like they did in remake , Nomura as to go , fired him asap
You say they messed it up like Remake, yet that won Game of the Year in 2020. Thus, by your own reasoning, Rebirth _will_ win Game of the Year for 2024.
Bait used to be believable. There’s nothing close to this games quality that has released this year as far as new single player games, and there probably won’t be, regardless of what you think about the ending.
