So many 60's songs for you to hear. A few off the top of my mind are: "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" by the Four Seasons, "Groovin" by the Young Rascals, "Tell Her No" by the Zombies, "Go Now" by Moody Blues, "Because" by Dave Clark Five, "I've Got To Get A Message To You" by the Bee Gees, "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by the Animals, "Daydreamer Believer" by the Monkeys, "The Air that I Breathe" by the Hollies and "Can't Find My Home" by Cream. Any Beatles song from their early albums. This is an eclectic group but the 60s had many styles from pop to harder rock as the decade progressed.
@@9drtr Thanks for that correction! As you mentioned Cream had lots of great songs. I didn't mention them as they were more progressive than the early 60s sound and it seemed to me that Amber was looking for a more early 60s or 50s pop/rock vibe. Anyway I'm sure at some point they'll be listening to Cream and Blind Faith.
@@johnpgravallese3 lololol... The liberal rules police would be after anyone who did that version.. but I think it would be hilarious. Who would play the Asian in the video? Someone very cool and cute with a great smile.
Johnny Rivers had lots of hits in the 60’s and 70’s. He never stopped recording or playing live. I saw him in 2013 and his voice sounds exactly the same as it did in the 60’s. He was never a smoker or had a drug problem like a lot of performers, so his voice help up perfectly. There are lots of videos of him performing live at different shows on RU-vid and it will blow you away.
The re mix is really cool.....for the separation of parts. The instrumental backing and the girls' choral background is very fine on this song. It really stands out if you ever get a chance to hear the re-mix.
Johnny Rivers' iconic classics: "Memphis" and "Mountain Of Love" (both were monster hits in the early to mid 60s) Little known fact: Johnny Rivers was the opening act for the "Whisky A Go Go" when it debuted in Los Angeles: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whisky_a_Go_Go
"Secret Agent Man","Slow Dancing,""Mountain of Love".Johnny Rivers is so underrated. He had so many hits. Love this guy.He just has that voice that makes you sit back and listen. Great story teller.
The old songs have so much meaning and they tell a story about someone’s life these people were professional artists they even dress themselves perfectly to perform I grew up with all of this music and still listen to it.
Because it's a losing organization. It took decades and after she was incapable of showing up to bring in Linda Ronstadt. That isn't sad that should be a crime just like Mr. Rivers.
Johnny Rivers came in the 1960s. Two of his best is "Mountain of Love" and "Secret Agent Man" (with a riff that you will recognise). He was and still is one of the best guitar players around.
Please do "Secret Agent Man". It was a weekly series about naturally a Secret Agent Man. Johnny did the theme song. I was born in 1956 and had a play action figure of The Secret Agent Man! 🤔🤗😎
I learned to love this song when I worked in an upscale dinner house that had a 50s and 60s DJ every Friday and Saturday night. This is a great song to close your eyes and enjoy.
Listening to this makes me want to go back and live in the 60s and 70s again. I remember this song playing on the car radio while I slept on the back floor of our gas hog (everyone had one back then) on a trip somewhere..don't know where we were going. Before seatbelt laws when you could take a nap in the back. Memories.
Did you catch the photo of Johnny relaxing in his Home with all of those "Gold Records" on the wall. He certainly wasn't a "One Hit Wonder." Love his music. He must be in his late 70s or even early 80s. He's an American Treasure, just like the Beach Boys.
In 1966, Rivers began to record ballads that featured background vocalists. He produced several hits including his own "Poor Side of Town", which would be his biggest chart hit and his only #1 record.
You might want to give Jackie Wilson a try "Lonely Teardrops is a great song by him. Very unique voice and charismatic performer. Try to find a live version of it, there are several out there.
Johnny Rivers was dreamy back then. I still get warm fuzzies when listening to him. There are other hits by him mentioned in the comments that are catchy and show different aspects of his personality. Another singer in that style, but with a bit of Latin chemistry is Trini Lopez. He crossed over to popular culture when there were not many Latino men hitting the billboard charts. You might want to check him out. Love your reactions. Stay true to your convictions and you will go far. Cheers from Canada
Seventh Son by Johnny Rivers is a GREAT tune. Released in 1966 (pretty sure), it never gets played anymore and is practically forgotten. Check it out. I think you'll agree, it's gem.
This ABSOLUTELY one of my favorite oldies. It's on 3 of my Spotify play lists and a little more on my 'Tube list. He's got such a wide variety of catalog of music. Perhaps Secret Agent Man next? 🤞🙏🤗 Sorry, had to update my comment. ☺️ My all time video of Johnny Rivers singing my favorite song is... From the Ed Sullivan Show singing Baby I Need Your Lovín I know Levi Stubbs(rip) Four Tops made the most popular version (how can you knock Motown?) Johnny made it more heart felt personal to me.
I love that you guys are finding some of these songs Johnny rivers was an amazing singer song writer a number of big hits secret agent man Memphis Tennessee great reaction it was real music you had to know how to play your instrument and you only had about 2 minutes to get your message across a lot of bands used orchestras in those days and it just added so much character and depth to the music great job you guys God-bless keep spreading the music. Check out the association never my love I think you guys will really dig it.
Trivia - one of the backup singer is Darlene Love - Trish Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon movies. She recorded with Phil Specter for ages & sang Christmas Baby Please Come Home every year on the David Letterman show.
It cracks me up... how Amber's logic worked this song out... hahaha! Great reaction I have another iconic song from the 50's "To Sir, with Love Theme Song/ LuLu"
One of my favorites...also try Secret Agent Man , Mountain of Love and Slow Dancing Swaying to the Music, and more...Johnny Rivers is very underated....
Johnny name is another. Last name it's Italian. Read his bio. His uncle helped him learn guitars and his style singing. He played at the whiskey a go go. A favorite dance place
Great choice! Love this song and Johnny Rivers' unique voice. Try Johnny Tillotson, It Keeps Right On a Hurting or Earth Angel, or Gene Pitney singing Liberty Valance. All 60's too.
Female Friday is coming up and I'd like to suggest Leslie Gore, she had multiple hits in the 60's; " You Don't Own Me ", "It's my Party", and " It's Judy's turn to Cry"!!! And once again I have to mention Carole King, the first female solo artist to sell over 10 million copies of ann album, that was in 1971 and the album was "Tapestry", she is also a songwriter, writing her first number one song before she was 19, " Will you still love me tomorrow" by the Shirelles. So many hits, a good place to start is the title song from " Tapestry".
Oh my goodness look it’s from American Bandstand I used to watch this every week . I think my momma watched every episode from beginning to end . I miss Dick Clark and his Rocking New Year .
I’m 47 i really really love these old school music lot better than the new music too day I now every one is different and that’s good keep up the good music
From that long ago, Fall, of 1966 ; written by Johnny Rivers & Lou Adler, produced by Lou Adler, orchestrated, by Marty Paich ; backing Johnny, are The Blossoms, the #1 female back-up singers in LA, in the 60's & 70's. -----------------------MJL< 75 y/o
Thanks for your honesty However this is my favorite song.He has a great voice! I agree their are different styles each with a different flavor, how do you compare apples to oranges!
Bee Gees started in the 60s. To Love Somebody, Words, New York Mining Disaster 1941, I've Got To Get a Message to You. Totally different sound from their disco days.
Also, check out The Association (Along Comes Mary, Requium for the Masses, Cherish), Buffalo Springfield (For What It's worth), Velvet Underground (Heroin, All Tomorrow's Parties, Sweet Jane)and I would Love to see you react to a song from 1970 by Crosby Stiils Nash and Young. The song is Ohio and Neil Young wrote it about the May 1970 Kent State Massacre where the National guard murdered 4 unarmed college students protesting the Vietnam War.
Met him once ... So good looking! Years after this and he had matured and changed his look. My friend kissed him, but I got too nervous and wouldn't do it! Lol
There are some legends from the 50s that inspired so many others, such as, Little Richard, Chubby Checkers, Fats Domino, and Aretha Franklin. Don't overlook them! And , please, Sister Rosetta Tharpe!
