Correction: The base is no longer capable of supporting the weight of the rest of the tower due to an immense gutting and renovation of the interior in the 1990s.
@@georgepig7362no I imagine that it was built to support the original height, then they removed the extra supports that were no longer required, happens a lot in refits and renovations to alter structure of a building
They should, but some ego filled architect would peobably just “modernize it” and change it to what they want and we would end up with a hideous cancer on the new york skyline.
Amazing! Never heard this story before but, based on the renderings, this building would be a world symbol today like the Chrysler Bldg or the Empire State! I hope that city authorities, a mega investor, and a prestigious architectural firm will someday join forces to finish this architectural masterpiece! Everything is possible in New York! The building last traded for $2.6B (2nd highest for an office building in US history) in 2015. At that valuation and with the existing tenancy it probably won't make financial sense to vacate the building and build, unfortunately. But it's not impossible!!!
@@TheProptechScoutWho knows! Everything is possible with new construction techniques. Several floors were added recently to a hospital, in Greater Raleigh NC, while still functioning! I'm sure an engineering firm could figure out how to do add floors to an unfinished highrise because it would be a huge challenge and big businesses love challenges because that implies even more money in their pockets! Let's hope someone in the engineering and architectural field reads this article and see what his/her thoughts would be about this great possibility! Thanks for the insight!
Mexico also had plans for a grand building that was started but never completed. The Monumento de Revolution was supposed to be Mexico's Capitol building.
Well Twin Towers were pretty Awesome and Ginormous anyway ! Imagine if instead of that Damned freedom tower, we made a Super Tower by Combing the Twin Towers Dimensions 400ft x 400ft and over 2000ft Tall !?
