@Mike Lopez I wouldn't say it's a second rate league. I'd call it a developmental league. The NFL has always taken elements from other football leagues and have always found a few players from these leagues. The WFL, USFL, Arena League, etc. The problem comes when a startup league says they're gonna take on the NFL or trash the NFL. If you want to startup a football league and go head to head with the NFL, you're going to have to overpay for the best college talent and that can't happen when you're getting off the ground.

@@carlcarlington7317 just because you’re in the “entertainment industry” doesn’t mean you need to stick your nose where it doesn’t belong. you got singers and actors/actresses crossing over into wrestling and y’all hate it. sports itself is a form of entertainment. but we don’t need all the extra theatrics and spectacles that Vince tries to push on people. most people just want to watch sports and let the players be the entertainment. not the other way around…..if they do….that’s why we have wrestling.

I remember being super hyped for the XFL, only to be let down by substandard football and unnecessary story lines like the infamous cheer leader locker room debacle. It was a league geared towards the youth of America, which didn't sit well with older football fans. I remember my dad saying he hated it because "they're trying to mix sex and football." This was part of the Attitude era of wrestling and I think if it had been done on a much smaller scale instead of trying to directly compete with the NFL, even though the season was different, it could have been successful. Jumping straight into prime time national tv was a mistake. Should have started small and built itself up, but I guess if the deal is on the table for NBC you can't turn that down. Damn shame because I liked the smashmouth football and different rules they promoted. It did have one big impact on football today though... that camera on wires directly over the football field was started by the XFL

I think it was just too much mountain to climb. In the WWE, even lower end talents are noteworthy and they're almost household names because they're part of the big organization. In the XFL, they needed to make a big signing. He Hate Me was the only guy anybody remembers at all, whereas there are dozens, hundreds even, of NFL players that people can remember playing just right now or in any given year. If the XFL would've spent big money to land a real NFL star and offered a better schedule and less chance of injury? They definitely could've done something w/ it, but they would've sunk so much money into it that it never could've been successful w/o other monetary collaborators. In a nutshell it just never could've worked and it was a bad idea.

As a non-wrestling NFL fan, we remember it too. It might have done well if they delayed the start by 3 weeks. In all the hype, Vince forgot to take advantage of the inherent excitement of football. He didn't give his players enough time to practice and he didn't play enough preseason games to iron out the rules. Reportedly Vince is looking to start a new football league in 2020. If he follows through, he has a better opportunity than the original XFL because it is widely speculated that there will be a labor dispute in 2021. If the league can gain a following in 2020, it can piggy off the strike to actually put up a fight this time.

TheSmilodon85 I mean, at its core - it’s football - and therefore, more football fans watched it than wrestling fans and that’s why it fucking died. It wasn’t “good enough” football for football fans and it wasn’t good enough wrestling for wrestling fans. To give you an idea of how many people watched this: 84 mil watched the 2001 Super Bowl and 50+ million tuned into the first XFL game a few short weeks after said Super Bowl. By seasons end, it set records for the smallest amount of viewers for a prime time airing in television history. #KnowYourFacts2k19

there was one nail in the coffin for the XFL. The roughing the passer call when we were promised gratuitous violence. There was a collective sigh among 30+ watching in our house. That was all she wrote for the XFL. Promise the great hits then fine the guy for the great hit. Done right I could totally see the XFL making a comeback provided it was a launching pad for careers

I've been saying for years that they should simply start the UFL, the Unrestricted Football League. All performance-enhancing drugs are legal and encouraged, there are no illegal hits, and no penalty flags will be used. Players will be allowed to smoke, snort and ingest whatever they feel will make them a more fierce competitor. There are obviously a lot of NFL players who cannot control their aggression off the field (wife/girlfriend assaults), so give them an arena to unleash some of that testosterone. But here's the catch: no safety gear will be used. No helmets, no pads, no face guards. We could call it Drugby. Hand out awards at the end of the season for the Most/Least Concussions, and Most Bones Broken In A Single Play, and Highest B.A.C. Before A Game. If they want to get all coked & 'roided out and slam into people with their bare heads, let them. Wouldn't you like to see what 11 enraged football players, high on PCP, do to an opposing quarterback?

You guys should do a “Benoit Revisted” episode...I feel your series has become far more refined since you did that episode and I feel the Benoit episode is your weakest episode that easily could’ve been 2 or 3 episodes. Especially with the new knowledge of CTE
