I had this model in a fully transparent version at the time. Started using a syringe to fill it, because it was much faster. It stopped working after a while. I've had the exact same version shown in this video for about ten years, but haven't used it much, as the metal 'battery' parts will wear out.
That is a really cool product that I had no idea existed! It has me thinking about what other products are out there or what products COULD be out there (be interesting to know just how much power can be generated)
I never knew these things ran on beer (just like me) I got an alarm clock version in August 2022 and I put some bottled water in it. Right now it's 31/12/23 and it's still going on the same water and just as strong. Great, brilliant, little products :)
ive had it, its good, although im more of a wheat beer drinker, and dont do the darker ones much (I like the NA Stela Artois and Heineken the most for what we have local, and if i can find it, Asahi Zero in the asian markets, although i guess im not picky with NA beer lol - i have bad boughts of gout so i avoid alcohol now)
Yep, and it's surprisingly good at that. Tastes pretty close to the real thing, which was a surprise to me the first time I had it! The only thing is that it doesn't keep its head when poured quite as well.
I can't remember if I remember seeing this back in the day or not. It's cool either way and I would love to see a modern version of it. I mean I do have a solar powered one which I guess is even better, but still so cool! Thanks for sharing.
Great family video! Congratulations - is this the first viewing of Baby Fractic? As for the Beer watch - who knew? Interesting explanation of the "battery." I wonder if there is a "potato battery" watch out there somewhere?
It was probably a gimmick and manufacturers weren't actually concerned about durability, like most 80's products, that decade was filled with innovation but not every innovation was well thought to be long lasting, specially consumer products
Am so late seeing this video as beer has made me drink it haha and am so loving the top. Amazing video as always and i hope you have had a great holiday as you have a little Fractic to enjoy it and am not talking about PerriFractic 😂😂. I now want a beer watch so it can drink as much as me when am out, hope 2024 bring you much love and joy and ofc the videos will keep getting better. Take care guys and have a great one 🙂🙂
Interesting one, never seen water powered wrist watch before. Had regular battery powered digital watches in the 80's, and even today. Not long ago I also installed battery for my 1989 Citizen ana-digi watch after some 20+ years being without battery. Digital watch came alive immediatly, but analog side woke up a bit later, stayed in sync with the digital clock about 1,5 weeks, until started getting behind. I'm guessing over 34 years old lubricants may have become sticky or something :P
This channel combines 2 of my biggest childhood loves, Star Wars and the C64 :D BTW what breed is PuppyFractic may I ask? what a gorgeous and intelligent looking dog !!
A very unusual product - although I would have tried it with water first before subjecting it to beer, just to make sure it was working ok! Long-term water would be better, reducing the possibility of leaving residue all over the terminals.
I was a little kid in 1987 and this was the first time I've ever seen one of those. That is pretty cool would have loved to rock one back then, sans the beer of course. My parents wouldn't have been on board with that being used as the medium lol.
never knew there was such a thing, but beer drinkers would be horrified to waist beer, i use to look for the latest model of watch to see what extra gadgets they could have, now I wear a old watch
I know you have your own Tardis in the studio but I believe you may have gone one day into the future for setting up the watch for the 31st December. I always thought Ladyfractic was a Time Lord sent back to divert Peri from the dark side of the Sith (I’ve seen the movie).
Pretty cool. Still, 3 ATM water resistant. That's at best splash tight. So at best a bit of rain? Weird for a watch that RUNS on water.. 😅 It IS a pity though to use Guinness for it...
This was so randomly interesting. I was thinking " I have no interest in a watch powered by beer". Watches video the third time 😆. Happy New Year FamilyFractic !
I'm completely flabbergasted! I live a short walk away from the former "Meyer & Stüdeli" watch factory in Solothurn (Soleure in French), Switzerland, and would never have expected to see 4:00 with "my" Jura mountains in the background on this channel which I've watched for quite some years. For what it's worth, it was later known as "Roamer" (there is still a bus stop with that name, one station before mine). But I'm not sure whether they had anything to do with the later MST when they produced "Roamer" watches (until the 1970's), maybe they branched off at some point in time...
When I was kid we got something called a Potato clock. The gimmick was you took an uncooked potato, plugged 2 metal rods into it with wires to the clock. It wasn't practical because potato would rot and collect flies. I 🤔 wonder if this is a similar technology.
Amazing..... I've also heard of car motor running on water (obviously different method to the watch you show here), which never made it to production......
its basically a tiny car battery they also need water to function it will eventually stop even if you refill the water unless you find a way to recharge it
I wonder what other fluids that watch could run on? Trapped in an elevator your watch runs out of fluid and there is no one else to provide fluid liquid. How will you keep track of the time until you are saved? Sounds like a MacGyver-style situation. Great video Ladyfractic. You get more beautiful every time we see you. I hope you and Perifractic had a lovely Christmas and will have a Happy New Year full of wonderful experiences. Happy New Year to Babyfractic and Puppyfractic (Junifractic) too. Or in true retro style "Happy Yuletide" to all patrons and subscribers alike.
I like how 8-Bit Guy recently got fed up and tried to set the record straight on PCB. I'm pretty convinced it does in fact stand for Pretty Cool Beerwatch.
Great and very interesting video about this great watch! I Like this 80's LCD style watches especialy if they come with an calculator and a game! Happy new year family-fractic!
Great Video as always. However, what the holy heck is Perifractic doing drinking Guinness from the can? It should be chilled, poured lovingly into a pint glass, allowed to settle and then, and only then, would you drink it. Hang your head in shame young man!
Not a drop was drunk (prop for video artistic use only) :D Cheers! We did visit the Guinness factory and learned how to pour the perfect pint, and on occasion enjoy a Guinness and Black at home BURP!
Remember seeing the watches in Ireland in the late 80’s. The version I saw the case was clear and the powder in the cell was orange. As an aside the zero Guinness makes me very sad, the underlining reason makes me happy :) Wishing you and yours a very happy new year!
