Great video. I’m just starting to use watercolor, so will be looking to get this palette to start off on the right foot…I’ll look at your Amazon list. Thanks 😊
I like to see what colors people have in their palettes and why, and I like putting together palettes of different sizes. One color I always seem need is Daniel Smith’s Goethite (brown ochre). It’s good for baked goods at the coffee shop as well as landscape/nature. Green Apatite Genuine is good for a convenience green because it can be very dark or a sappish green when diluted. I use Moonglow a lot, too. Just got Lunar Earth, so I’ll see how that goes.
Enjoy the lunar earth, it's a lot of fun. Probably won't take too much getting used to if you're used to Daniel Smith's very granulating colours already!
What is granulating and why do you like it? I was wondering what happens with some of my new watercolors 😁. I did not like the effect, but I am a total novice…
Good question! Some pigments are very smooth, and other's have large bits of sediment in them. Those which have sediment with settle in a 'granular' way when the water dries, like little specks of coloured sand. I like them because they add extra texture to the sketching - they can be harder to control, and they don't give flat washes very easily so they can be off putting at first, but when you know what to expect and how to control it (a little) then I think the effects are wonderful. I'll do a video to explain better in the next few weeks!
