Idea: you mentioned you can't shred (cuz no neck obv)... but what if it did have a neck? Still detached headstock, but like maybe with only the first fret sawed out so that you can still tap. Idea+: take it further and suspend the headstock on like a hook or something and still wear the strap so that you can adjust the pitch by squatting instead of pulling your shoulder out, then you can 2-hand tap while standing directly behind the fret board. You won't be able to see it, but you're a pro, I'm sure that's not a problem for you!
@glebglub
@glebglub 6 месяцев назад
I can't help but feel that, ergonomically speaking, you'd be better off drilling a bar through the headstock and holding onto that, like a bicyce handlebar... or maybe forgo the head and get a medieval gauntlet, the fingertips as clamps and knuckles as tuners... otherwise, cool beans bro

With this neckless though do you only use a shoulder strap? I feel like being able to pull back by leaning away if the body is tensioned to yours would be optimal. And metal. This is the first vid on this build I've seen, and I'm a drummer, so forgive me if you've already had this question. Ta!

People claiming your neckless guitar songs are fake had never experienced a string getting broken, and then holding it and trying to play. I remember using a gripper to hold the string and stretch it, getting those weird sounds when picking. You are a genius Bernth :)
@alanzfirecaster
@alanzfirecaster 6 месяцев назад
Bernth, did you think about placing a curved piece of glass or metal where the neck should be attached? I think it can add more interesting possibilities. You know, some piece like a quarter circle or ellipse ◔, so the strings can rest and slide softly over this. Also, you could use fewer strings to do less effort stretching it. 💪

I love how you specified that it was self-made. I still have a question however: Why are the strings so long? I obviously haven't tried it out myself, but intuitively, I'd guess it's less awkward to play and easier to control with a bit less distance to pull.

This might defeat the concept a bit....but you could always fill in that spot where the neck normally connects with a small block and put a bridge on it...that way you could pull the strings against that for tension instead of directly against the pickups. You'd still be controlling it by moving the headstock around in the air, but it'd probably get you a better sound. If you wanted to be super crazy, you could also remove the headstock and instead attach the strings to some sort of finger braces so that you could just attack the strings to your fingers and just move your hand around and wiggle your fingers in a monster like motion to create tension....although you'd obvious have to lose a string to do it that way. Might be an interesting concept for a neckless Bass. Anyway, cool thing you did.

Actually, i watched that first video with this guitar quite some times. I noticed the staples and some other details(which i will probably not remember now) and realized what they were needed for. But i still couldn't be sure if that was fake or not, so i took some scientific approach. I just took the end of the string in my hand so that it was held freely but without sacrificing guitar neck and tried recreating the sounds that were performed in that song. And, what would you think i got almost exactly the same sounding. I don't think i recreated all the sounds but those i did were enough to convince me that what i saw was real. Also, now i want to sacrifice some guitar for a higher purpose xD
@marian-gabriel9518

How about you put the neck back in BUT make it with pivots at the base and head. The base pivot would let the neck swing towards and away from you and the head would swing up and down to tighten or loosen the strings. With that combination you have more control but still retain quite a lot of the "creative freedom".

The next invention: a stringless guitar. And, of course, I do not mean some electronic gimmmickry, but just a plain old guitar modified not to have strings. My other suggestions: an electric guitar without pickups, any guitar without a bridge, an acoustic guitar without any sound-enhancing body. Also, we can modify a regular electric guitar to be pickless and fingerless. Another idea is that we can use a regular electric guitar and remove all the electronics from the inside.

Anyone that still doubts that this can be done, there's an easier way to do this that doesn't require sacrificing a guitar neck. Take the neck off of your guitar and put your strings through the bridge like normal. Grab your low (or high if you want) E and pull it tight, while leaving the other strings hanging loosely. Use pliers if you want and give the loose end a couple twists and pull, making sure the others come along for the ride in your hand, but still loose. With a bit of practice, you'll find the right angle and tension needed to be able to make something that sounds better than having your whammy bar pushed all the way down and hitting the strings across your pickup(s) to make amplifier farts.

for people who don't know how this works, electric guitars make sound through electromagnets in the form of pickups that detect the vibration of the strings which is why electric guitar strings are different to acoustic steel strings since the strings need to be made with a ferrous/magnetic metal like nickel whereas acoustic strings are made from copper or bronze and won't make any sound if they are put onto an electric. going neckless like this is just a demonstration of how the pickups 'pick up' any string vibration
