This was an excellent episode. People that haven’t handled a team cannot fathom how much work and skill is involved here. Those are well trained draft horses and this was still a chore.
I truly enjoyed watching you with Amos & Moses, that was awesome, yes I agree the sound of chains were incredible, hopeing to see you do this again!!:) Have a blessed New Year, greatest of adventures, thks for sharing your life:)
Great job. Keeping your composure it's the most important part when dealing with two tons of horse power. Blessings on you and your family and all your endeavors. Again, blessings on ya boy. As ever just Tom
Thumbs up for sure!!? Thank you for sharing! I know you don't have to do this. We appreciate it very much. I like watching your life with more than a little jealousy. Your living our dream !
OH JASON!! I've been waiting over a year for this video! THANK YOU so much for sharing the fellers with us! They seemed to be having as good a time as you were near the end there. And yeah, a runaway team [with or without wagon] is one of those 'life flashing before your eyes' moments 🤣I hear you on that front! Such a lovely video, I smiled the whole way through! As much as you love doing it and as much as you don't have the time to, I hope those moments of Peace you feel whilst driving can encourage you to make more time for yourself. It's the little things, Jason. The little things that save us. Maybe teach a hand to harness up or give one of the local 4Hers a chance to volunteer their time for some practical skills and experience harnessing a team. Sure it'd cost some time to train them, but wouldn't that equal out to many more days where you wouldn't have to spend the time to do it but still want to drive? I'd love to go for a ride. To be so peaceful and present is a wonderful feeling. Happiest of New Years to you and the fam, Jason! May the winds be always at your backs!
I remember when I was in college working on a ranch, we had two palominos that were team horses and had been retired recently. My friend and I thought we could put a saddle on each of them and try to use them as trail horses. My friend got his saddled up and was waiting for me. Well my horse would have nothing to do with a saddle. After much coursing I got him saddled up and got him going out on the trail. Not even 20 yards out, he decided he did not want to be ridden. He tried to buck me off but I stayed on. After a few minutes he calmed down and I took him back to the arena. I tied him to the fence post so I could get him to rest. Again, he would have nothing to do with being tied up and proceeded to pull the fence railing out of the post and run with a fence post attached to the end of his lead rope. My friend came back and helped me get the fence post out of the rope and put Mr. Fussy Britches away. What a fun day LOL.
Drafts are usually so tractable. I have a lot of draft crosses for that reason, love their dispositions. But its true for most horses the more you work them the better they are
I grew up in the interior of B.C., Canada, where we used teams until we got our first tractor in 77. Teams are defiantly one of those things that the old saying, use it our loose it, applies to. They are well worth the effort to maintain them. Cheers, Billy
Driving was my sanity, didn’t matter if it’s single, pair or teams but you are 100% right though, when it goes wrong it goes wrong big and quick. Such a beautiful place to drive and Amos was much more relaxed than his first impression. Good for you x
You sure have a pair of real pretty horses there Jason! A very natural rhythm in motion as the horses settle in to a daily task at hand. Slow and gentle seems to win the race and the day. Hope 2022 has started well for you and your wife. -Bob...
Beautiful horses, this was another enjoyable video. You keep it real and I look forward to each new time you put out a new video. You realize watching this, just how smart Amos and Moses are, glad you enjoyed your ride! No crashes 🤣🇺🇸
I grew up kinda like your life style. Fed cattle and horses out in pastures with a fifth wheel wagon. We loaded up the manure from the stalls then went out in a field and dump it. I miss doing your job. Couple years ago I bought a Moline freight wagon i have some older harnesses maybe God will give a chance at it again. Enjoyed watching your video. Thanks God Bless.
Good video, thanks! I used to have a Percheron as well and he broke many a halter just like yours did! An old timer told me to run the lead rope over the hitching rail and tie to a front foot, that sure helps. Your so right a run away team is scary! I bet that was very cool having the Bud Clydes at your ranch, very cool! I went on and had Clydes and had much better luck with them, also harness trained a bunch of young Clydes for others. There used to be a group of us Guys that farmed 40 acres with draft horses and mules for many years. Lots of work but lots of fun!
Happy New Year Jason and Bonnie. That was an awesome video, I love watching you work the ranch and all the things you do. That would be a dream come true to shadow along side you for a couple days working the ranch. You've worked hard for what you have and are truely blessed. How's Bonnie coming along?
Love Amos and Moses, didn't know you had them.. That is a cool way to do feeding. I love to watch a good team work and the sounds are awesome 👌 of the tack
Aanii (hello in Ojibwe) from Eastern Ontario❤️🇨🇦❤️ Happy New Year! I love riding in a wagon, I can understand why you'd want to do that daily. I'm glad everything went better than you expected. Take care, Miigwetch for the ride along
That poor halter never stood a chance!! I have seen them halters hold until the hitching post come up. He broke it like it was fishing string. Awesome vid.... its different
Much oblige for the video. Been many moons. When I worked Short Creek Camp for Bivins up river from you, between Borger & Amarillo I fed with a span of mules lol loved it!! Some day maybe I can come have a cup at with ya. Take care and God Bless you and yours!! 👍👍
My grandpa had a team like that, would work them all spring and summer and then would turn them out in the fall and winter with the cows out in the mountains and I’m sure he had a time out of them like you did. He’d keep a mule in the barn to haul firewood and stuff in during the winter. I’ve had mules and horses most of my life but never had a big pair like those. Hearing them chains and that harness moving with the horses is music to my ears
OMGosh ❤️ love them but geeze lol that's Way more work than I could do haha... I need a 'drink' after watching you wrestle with them 😂😂 I enjoy your videos so much!! Thank you for sharing your love and life out there!
I enjoyed the video it brought back a lot of memories. And your right that team needs a lot more work I had a couple of runaways myself. It gets the heart pumping.
Great video as always Jason.. I just love your channel. Those are some beautiful horses even tho Amis was a jersey he done quit well. Please keep them videos coming. Can't wait for the livescc
As usual you brought back many a good n even one unforgettable run away team were I got full controll once again after team of 6 got f scared ...told watchers that the team trusted me ,that was how a got controll back so fast ...just talked to them with same words ( just projected them to horses better so they could hear me through their fear ). Anyway thanks again for another great video that I watched twice n probably come back again for more!!!
This video was my absolute favorite you have done since I have been subscribed thanks for sharing the percherons with us I would be a teamster in a heart beat
Another awesome video! So cool ♥️ the Budweiser horses would have made a cool video! Do you have any footage or pictures? Glad the ride went well, I was holding my breath 🤣 The story about the hay being scattered through out town, cracked me up. I love hearing the chains too ♥️ A+ video
