I also didn't buy to this very day. He should've sought for his goal away from Whitebeard's shadow. Would've been better if he was Whitebeard's allie instead of being his commander
I also really like that upon meeting Whitebeard, Ace had learned that he'd rather have a family that loves him rather than becoming/surpassing the Pirate King like his original goal was. After watching this video I feel like he might've been happier dying young than if he had achieved his original goal and lived the rest of his life naturally after that. Really makes you think about what's really important in life.
One Piece Theory: Ace Was Always Supposed To Be Joyboy Shanks had originally intended on giving Ace the Gomu Gomu no Mi because he knew of Gol D Roger's intent for his son to bring about a new era. The opening scene of One Piece takes place in the East Blue, where Shanks, already one of the most powerful pirates in the world, has recently left the Grand Line and been stationed at Dawn Island for over a year- but why? With all of the information and history surrounding Shanks, Gol D. Roger, and Ace revealed in the Wano Arc, it’s clear that Ace was always the character who was meant to fulfill the role of Joyboy by inheriting Roger’s will, and Shanks was there to kickstart this journey. In One Piece chapter 1018, readers learn that Who’s Who was working for the World Government as a guard on a ship when “Red-Haired” Shanks besieged it and managed to steal the Gomu-Gomu no Mi. Who’s Who goes on to tell Jinbe that while in prison, a guard told him about the legend of the Sun God Nika, a mythical warrior who was said to bring laughter and smiles to those around him, and that the guard was silenced for even knowing about the tale. Later on, it’s also revealed that the Gomu Gomu no Mi is actually a Zoan type fruit called the Hito Hito no Mi: Model Nika. This is meant to invoke the aforementioned Sun God Nika, but it still doesn’t explain why Shanks went after this fruit in particular or why he beelined to Dawn Island immediately after taking it. There are several pieces of evidence pointing to the fact that Shanks traveled to Dawn Island after retrieving the Gomu Gomu no Mi in order to give it to the son of his former captain, Portgas D Ace. When Gol D. Roger learned that he possessed an incurable disease, he set out to make three major arrangements. The first, as he let on to Rayleigh, was to father a son. After this, Roger contacted his greatest rival in the marines, Garp, and asked him to raise the boy and protect him. The second was to reach out to Whitebeard and tell his longtime friend what he had learned about the true history of the world. This presumably included things such as the meaning of the ‘Will of D’ and what the One Piece actually is. Finally, Roger left his young comrade, Shanks, with an as-of-yet unknown message that caused Shanks to well up with tears. On their own, each of these pieces of information can only tell part of the story, but when looked at together, it becomes clear what Ace’s role in the world of One Piece was intended to be. Ace was meant to carry on Gol D Roger’s will after his death and bring about the dawn of the world. One Piece is littered with references to “the dawn of the world” and imagery about the sun finally rising after a dark night. The current regime of the World Government is meant to embody that night. Ace was always portrayed as the sun, the character who should have been destined to bring about this new dawn. He stood in contrast to the Yami Yami no Mi wielding Blackbeard, a character who represented the idea that the world could yet be plunged further into darkness. Gol D. Roger knew the true history of the world and decided that it would be his son who would bring about the dawn of a new era, and by piecing together all of this information, it is likely that Shanks stole the Gomu Gomu no Mi with the express purpose of giving it to Ace so he could fulfill the role his father always intended him to. If not for a turn of fate, Ace could have been One Piece’s Joyboy, but with his passing, his will now lives on in Luffy, the man who will inherit his mantle and one day become King of the Pirates.
Something worth mentioning is that Ace's Whitebeard tattoo was originally shaped like a swastika. Which I assume referred to the original sun symbolism.
The swastika is a symbol that is older than religion itself. It is a symbol that is found on every continent raging from America, to Japan, to India and during WW2 Germany. The symbol means “Universal piece” each leg represents the spiral that the Milky Way galaxy is shaped in. It means we are all one people under our galaxy. A symbol of freedom. True liberation. Zehahaha.
when you don't realize that indeed, they are two different symbols.. what the Nazis used and what represents peace aren't drawn out the same... its like saying the French and Belgium have the same flag 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@jhxsto Ahh… that’s where you are wrong. History is told by the winner. If I killed your entire family, and I was the only person around to tell the story, why would I say I was the one who did the crime? I would say you were the villain and I was the hero who “saved” the land by “defeating” the bad people. For example, the American holocaust. Which is far more important then the Jewish one. The Europeans came and lied to the Native Americans. They tricked them and stole their land. Is that what is told to you? No. You are told your ancestors came to “civilized” the people of the land as if they were some handicapped children who didn’t know any better. Yet they were the ones who were educating the Europeans because of their Ignorance of how the world actually works. You are told the side of the story of the victor. Nobody wants to sound bad in their history book. You are fed the same propaganda North Koreans are fed about Americans. You don’t know truth from fiction because you don’t research anything. You just listen to whatever people tel you because you are a follower. You are no different than bigots who believe racism is justified because they were taught by their racist parents who were taught by their racist grandparents. History is only what you are told not what actually happens. You aren’t educated enough to hold a conversation with me about WW2 without getting yourself banned off RU-vid for exporting details that nobody is supposed to know about. In certain countries talking about the war will get your head chopped off or life imprisonment. Slavery tho? Go ahead and joke about it. Laugh. None will care because blacks hold no power to defend themselves against racial injustice. The Jewish on the other hand. Have you seen what they did to Kanye and Kyrie ? And you think they the victims in the story? Ask questions. Pay attention. Use your brain and comprehend what you are seeing.

But aye, go off bbg.
Well people seem to forget that why ace died... He sacrificed himself for luffy that means he also placed his bets on him. Ace dream was already fulfilled when he saw that he made such good friend who even raised havoc on marines for him!
There were a lot of expectations for Ace, everyone expected him to be the next Pirate including his dad, mom, WB and of course Shanks. But Ace will never be Pirate King cuz he never dreamed of becoming Pirate King, he wanted to make WB the Pirate King. He always saw himself as a follower of WB kinda like Marco the Phoenix. This is why he spent most of his time roaming around by himself instead of training to get stronger or forming a forbiddable crew. Everyone knows if you're gonna be Pirate King you need a strong crew to back you up even kid Luffy knew that much.
He didn’t do any of that. Ace had an entire crew where he was the captain called the Spade Pirates. His 2nd in command was Mask-Duce. He joined WB because WB defeated ace in battle and ace told WB to finish him off but WB saw too much potential in Ace to end him off so he asked him to join his crew and become his “Son”. It took Ace many months to finally listen and join the crew and everyday he would attempt to assassinate WB as revenge for taking him against his will. He was traveling getting stronger to defeat all the Yonkos. He didn’t know Shanks was luffys friend and he was gonna go after WB and then Kaido next.
@@harrywinkson9158 thats what he did he roamed around doing shit. What you think he did in Wano? Although he was called captain of the Spade Pirates he never formed an attachment ot his crew and left them wherever thats why he was always alone as he wandered the world.
Ace is like the Anakin Skywalker to Luffy's Luke. The guy who was born to be the MC and accomplish all the things vs the MC who kind of fell into the role
seeing that preview of the coin being flipped reminded me of your videos back in the day starting with some game where if the viewer lost they would have subscribe and/or like the video. I was really amazed you kept it up for like a year or so
I have been contemplating this for awhile. If you follow the "hero with a thousand faces" theorem, then Ace could/should have been the main character, but fate decided not. Shanks also could have been the main character, but fate decided not. Roger was the main character, but of the prequel. Luffy should have fallen many times, but fate decided to make him the main character. The hero with a thousand faces trope, is essentially, the hero comes from humble beginnings, often from tragedy, yet they have a sense of destiny. Be it inheritance, fate/god given destiny, etc. They struggle, find a wise old mentor who trains them. And then they strive to reach their destiny. Roger chose to give birth to the destiny of others, perhaps intending ace to be the hero. Ace gave it up to serve whitebeard. Roger trained shanks, shanks gave up his inheritance to bet on Luffy. Luffy is the unlikely hero, that almost has become the main character via happenstance.
Now that you brought up smiles, theory. What if the D Clan were the lineage factor of devil fruits. And trying to copy the devil fruit itself, Vegapunk got the linear factor and Caeser made the smiles from his research. An incomplete devil fruit.
@@thatonenoob7854 the only thing Vegepunk had to do with it was discovery lineage factor as a concept. Caesar did the rest on his own, and lineage factor he took was from various animals not D clan people
@@laiika511 Vegapunk also recreated Kaido's fruit, which Caesar had access to and used in his creation of the smiles. The smiles look just like Vegapunk's artificial dragon fruit, just with a different color scheme. Without that example fruit I don't think Caesar would have been able to make the smiles.
The Blackbeard pirates weren't wanted yet at that point, so any conflict would've been avoided. (Which is odd, because by then they'd already raided Drum Island, and maybe even a few other islands. You'd think that would get them a bounty.)
This goes under the impression that Sabo is still alive following whatever the heck happened with the giant sky lazer that wiped out the island he was on.
I think it's easier to see the resemblance to Roger now that we know that that's his lineage, but prior to this arc I had no doubt that he was related to Luffy by blood since they looked so much alike
@@sujithsudhakaran745 From what I remember, Ace's original appearance in Alabasta was changed to resemble Roger by Marineford. Part of it might be Oda changing his style, but some were made on purpose for the reveal.
Another point you hit on, If Rogers Crew knew a lad aged 19-20 was going to be the "one" then it was safe to bet on Ace as he was around 20 years old while luffy was only 17ish.
I think Oda decided Ace's fate as we was plotting Marineford. Luffy's backstory was given to Ace when Oda chose to kill Ace rather than Shanks. Sabo was created to fill in Ace's storyline in the New World Saga.
3:35 Was this ever confirmed? If Roger cares about “freedom” half as much as Luffy, I don’t think he would impose his will upon Ace. The only thing we know he said to Rogue was to name him Ace or Anna.
If Roger's goal was to create the pirate that would usher in the new dawn, yeah.. it didnt end up being Ace. But Ace is pivotal in Luffys journey. So Roger still succeeded in partly "creating" the next pirate king.
I love how we can confidently say that if Luffy was captured instead, Ace would've been stupid enough not to ask whitebeard for help. There wouldn't have been nearly as much security, shanks would have shown up too, and I'm not as keen on thinking that Garp would hold his tongue when it comes to luffy. I think they definitely could both have survived in this case. Though, as we all know, despite him being as cool as he is, Ace never had his sabaody moment and is, therefore, still an idiot tactician.
I don’t think it was confirmed that buggy was raised from a baby by the rodger pirates but it’s definitely possible although i have a feeling he would’ve been found in a way more goofier way then shanks lol
Ace's death in this video has me thinking if sakazuki is the greatest detriment to the marines. Killing Ace was always the plan but what was important is context. The whole over the top execution ceremony was meant to treat Ace as a terrible criminal who deserved death for the world to see but because of Sakazuki Ace died a Martyr who protected his younger brother, perhaps the worst PR the Navy can present to the world. On top of his actions at Ohara and later fight with Kuzan led to his detection from the marines, and Sakazuki's leadership leading to a lot of animosity and low moral, it is quite hard to see whether he does more harm or good to his own organization.
That makes a lot of sense but unfortunately I don't think that's how the rest of the world saw it, aside from other pirates that already saw him as an enemy, and likely some of the Marines that were there to witness it. The story that was told to the world was merely that the execution was successful, so I don't think the world at large is aware of the true story
@@4shadow100 true but they were already enemies of the navy so it's hard to say if Akainu's actions would've made their opinions of him worse, or if they already expected the worst of him. Not to mention whether or not the public would take their word for it.
Has anyone else felt that inception-based pure hate at the end? Also, there IS a world where both survive: Oda (if I recall) drew an alterative ending where sabo saved both at the last moment. That's made me tear up a bit and that's the world I live in. Still. Ace has been framed non-stop in the post time-skip as "the one that should have been pirate king", and since it's odd to always talk about the only semi-relevant character that died and is not part of the story anymore, I'm convinced his death WILL have some kind of impact on the story in the future, and how his will even overdrew destiny.
Liam made this video very light-hearted but my heart genuinely hurts watching this. I now have mixed feelings about all the information we will eventually have after one piece ends. Will Oda tell us straightforwardly about all these connects or will he leave it up to our smarts? It would be low-key cool if he does the latter but I also need: "Here are all the things I did on purpose," said Oda with a slightly sly smirk.
Ace has been my favorite character since I first started reading One Piece years ago. It's so cool to see him still being involved in major flashbacks and important to other characters in the story. Once the nika fruit was revealed the sun similarities with Ace smacked me in the face. Oda is one clever bastard.
Liam be spoiling us with so much sweet sweet One Piece (and HxH) content Delivered straight into our youtube feed lately, i mean how can you not simply adore this man.
Theres one thing I crave in all animes, side stories that change the effect of the anime, things like in naruto during the sasuke rescue mission if the genins ahd sucseeded, or in this case if ace lived but luffy died.
oda really does do smiles well in a memorable way(favorite being nami's giant goofy grin in a color spread/love to see boa hancock having a big grin like it.:3) it feels to me like the symbols on ace's hat/his cross are like how with jesus(or a lot of people in all areas that impacted the way our modern world grew.) was viewed as a common by but was recognized and even more loved with their impact by the time/long after their death like how ace for as flawed till his death was paved luffy's path to not making the same mistake, defeat blackbeard with help, curbstomp the admirals and became a sun god comically bringing freedom to the land where ace became a legend with legacy.
i like to point out how both ace and sabo both represent two things of nika, ace the sun and sabo the freedom, so its a nice touch that luffy who has the nika devil fruit grew up with two people who would go on to represent two important aspects of him
Now that you mentionned that I just noticed Ace is a caracther that is the only son of the metaphorical god of pirates, who's first apparence is him wandering in the desert, and who is sold to the army by being betrayed by a former friend and who's father caring for him is adoptive.
I said it over a year ago luffy is going to fight Ace in the final battle against Black Beard. That is the whole point of Black Beard getting Moria. Who is the only person luffy can't/won't fight????
New theory (sorry it's long. Thorough with my thoughts is all): The One Piece will be a location where those with the Will of D can affects the entire world and the "weapons", that were made out of desperation but we're far more destructive than expected. They were more like caretakers, gardeners forced to pick a sword. The One Piece helps them, but they also have to sacrifice their freedom forever to use it. Like D&D, the players decide just how things play out with little threads pulled or a word here to keep the story going. They can also just shut the whole thing down. During the war, as a last resort, the then/current occupier of the One Piece created the grand line and hazardous conditions to separate the warring factions with the help of the "weapons", causing such widespread calamity that fighting would cease and hopefully sort itself out. Death is the only way to escaped the One Piece. Those with the Will of D aren't frightened of death for that reason. Death is to be released. Death is the ultimate freedom to glimpse. Someone will always take their place. The world government that formed based itself on knowing and hiding the fact that something so powerful existed or at least assumed it does, did their best to hide all knowledge of the idea of it because if people like Blackbeard knew fully what it was, it wouldn't end well. Robin and others who can read and learn the history are a threat to the literal world, so it makes it understandable why they're so brutal in trying to stop anyone who could reveal it. But their goals has been tainted by power and corruption over time. Pirates being pretty much the epitome of freedom in many people's eyes, Roger rejected the option of becoming part of the One Piece with the takeaway being "To have/control everything, you have to sacrifice everything", what he consider a tale of laughter, a joke, that people, like him, strived so hard for something that appeared so grand only to be met with the option to lose their freedom in the end. Only the insanely good or insanely bad would take up the option. I think the big end battle will be against the world government, revolutionary army, Blackbeard, etc with Luffy and everyone he and the crew have befriended along the way trying to stop any of them with the Will of D from using it to "create the world the way they see fit" , which would mean destruction and death that would wipe out far too many innocent people. I wouldn't be surprised if Shanks, Blackbeard, and Dragon end up fighting as Shanks is also against what they would do. Shanks loses, maybe dies, and that sets Luffy off in the most destructive, overpowered rage we've ever seen.
Please do more videos on film red it was so fantastic I loved it also if you look at the lyrics of new genisis you can see it kinda foreshadows her plan
"Raised in the shadow of the most infamous criminal to have ever lived" LOL Luffy. But I do think the reason Ace became the person that he is because he was smart especially if compared to his brother Luffy.
Ace's hat is on his grave. Also do you know that Luffy only had a 25% chance of getting to the Knock Up Stream that took him away from Blackbeard? Straw Hats found the location where they could use the Knock-Up Stream to get to the Sky Island by using the south bird. And guess what? The north bird, the eastern bird and the western bird is also live on the Jaya. Straw Hats could have caught the wrong bird, sail in the wrong direction and get caught by Blackbeard with a 75% probability!
everyone always says “if ace didn’t do ___ he would’ve lived” but tbh every position ace was in weather it was “saving” luffy from the billions, attacking blackbeard for killing thatch, not joining him and telling him that u won’t let him fight ur brother, being sad AT YOUR EXECUTION but still wanting to live etc etc i personally think i would’ve made the same or very similar decisions, his character is very human and very real
Think it would be better to say that seeing more from ace before his death would’ve been cool but I do believe oda put everything in its rightful place for the sake of the story
@@BilalHussain-sx3vg yeah I get that, his death was very impactful and one of the greatest deaths in anime. I just really like the character and would love to see him still around.
