I'm a bit 50/50 with the 39 Pelagos, trying to remember why tho lol, think it was the Bezel?.. too many markings, I agree about the blue tho, if they did a different bezel option too I'd sell everything I own to snap one of them up.
@@mrmagoo.3678 It’s a funny one - I personally think it’s the perfect watch for me, but I get that it’s also quite stark and modern compared to the BB. It’s not a universal hit, for sure. But in blue I think a lot of people would go doolally for it….
@@cradd7108yeah I used to own a cheap Wenger that was completely titanium (case + bracelet) and I could NEVER get used to how light and fragile it felt. I've always worn bigger and heavier SS watches so wearing that was an awkward experience for sure. FF by around 10+ years to present time and now I LOVE a titanium watch, after wearing a huge Seiko Turtle 🐢 on a StrapCode bracelet. I have a few titanium watches now, but none have a bracelet, so just the case is titanium. I could never afford a Pelagos, but I'm keeping my eyes on another Maratac titanium watch OR something else with a Ti case & bracelet in the under $1k range. But yeah, if you're used to wearing big, heavy SS diver's watches and then switch to a titanium, you might never get used to it. It took me another 10 years of going back and forth until now and I'm definitely ready for another full titanium watch. Maratac makes amazing titanium products i have LOTS of them, including their LSA 300m and GMT pilot watches) and they make awesome full titanium watches, but ONLY with automatic movements. I'm kinda over the automatic thing (even though I still wear one pretty regularly), but I just want a nice full Ti solar powered watch that's lightweight AND low maintenance!!! And Russ, thanks for another great review and video!!! That Tudor is simply handsome as hell and I would love to own it 😃
Tiger Concepts make one. I bought one, it’s the dogs danglies and cheap as chips. The website is pants but persevere as it’s worth it. William, the brand owner, will even build you a watch to your own speck if you want something a little different. Of course it’s an homage, but aren’t all Tudors, and it’s homaging a long discontinued model.
What a coincidence, i just ordered blue 79090 and black 9411/0 on monday, a week ago, it will take a month to get them, but i hope everything will be alright and i will get them eventually
You are the most Interesting and Educational RU-vidr. Making watching your videos enjoyable, I don’t know if Willy Wonka is a Influence to you but the way you mix different ways of vocal delivery and color changing in the video are a trip. I am looking at a older Tudor that is a Hybrid Rolex thanks to you. Thanks from America 🇺🇸
A baby present. 🌞 I hope this note flies below the radar. I'm thrilled for you and your family. Just a small token of appreciation for the enjoyment you provide. Spence
For me, the P39 captures the vibe and the spirit of old Tudor (and Rolex) subs. I don't think they need to do a full blown remake, other than a blue/yellowish colourway for the P39.
I honestly don't believe there is anyone else on RU-vid who goes so deep into the history of watches and brands. And ultimately makes some of the most endearing content in the watch space. Keep up the amazing work.
If Tudor did revise the 39 like you say , block's, fluted, crown guards etc , then there wouldn't be any need to fork out £9000.00 + Excise Duty + Delivery on Chrono 24 to get one, faux patina lume that work's !!!! KILLER for £3000.00 nice ......
Absolutely stunning! Great video, Russ, thank you! That vintage Tudor is a dream watch for me for sure, and if Tudor were to re-release it (at a price point for us mere mortals) then my wallet will take a beating for sure!
The square numerals WORK with the snowflake hands, also I miss the rose logo and smile text but idk which model that was far back Oh technically speaking isn't the pelegos 39 the remake of this?
You know I like tudor but I have a lot of buyers remorse with regards to my black bay ceramic. It's not because the watch is bad, it's a great watch; it's because the watch hurts my wrist. It's too big, and it's too heavy for my wrist. It would actually work better if it had a proper bracelet instead of a strap because the bracelet would offset the weight of the case. Following that logic, I've tried many different straps with the most comfortable being a rubberB strap (just barely doesn't work). I've owned the thing for roughly a year and I've maybe worn it for maybe 30 hours total. I'm trying to find a place I can sell it but right now the black bay ceramics are not worth much in comparison to a lot of the other tudor models. Vendors like watchbox, only accept tudor for trade ins and my AD offered me 50% of it's value which is the most scummy thing I've ever experienced in regards to watches. I've had my eye on the black bay 54 since it was announced at watching wonders, if I ever get to trade in this watch for a reasonable value, that's what I'm probably going to buy in its place, either that or the pelagos 39.
I dunno Russell. Nobody gets every box ticked. Can’t see them putting sub back on the dial, and they’ve parked circles and snowflakes on opposite sides of the black bay / Pelagos property line. I think we’ll get a blue p39 with LHD faux patina, I don’t think they’ll do it in steel 😢 but I do think it’s gonna be a stunna!
It's no secret collectors have been waiting with bated breath for a Tudor Subby Re-issue. It's almost as if Tudor is purposely messing with us by releasing watches with a slight resemblance. The FXD being a prime example. Some people were convinced that was the one when early renders were leaked. Heads will explode if and when Tudor decides to wise up. If I had custody of that watch, I'd be heading for Mexico by now 😂😂
Ironic that Rolex decided to use "off the shelf" movements in Tudors since that's literally the entire history of Rolex themselves. Rolex did not make their own dials they outsourced to Beyler. Rolex did not make their own bracelets they outsourced to Guy Freres. They did not make their own winding crowns they outsourced to Bonichini. And of course famously Rolex never made their own movements they outsourced to Aegler, Lemania and Zenith. A watch made entirely by Rolex did not become a reality until 2004 when they just started writing giant checks to buy the companies they'd been buying parts from all along. Similarly Rolex bought Kenissi Manufacture the company that makes the movements for Tudor after ETA got word to Rolex and others that it was cutting off supply of their movements. ETA only supply their movements to the brands within the Swatch group which was actually forced on them by the Swiss government who wanted to keep it a Swiss only club or something. That's a long crazy story in itself. I like the snowflake hand but it seems strange for Rolex to order Tudor to only use snowflake hands on all their Black Bay models. As you noted that's not the history of Tudor. Or is it that they're just banned from using Mercedes hands and using the name Submariner? Either way they should mix it up a bit. The Omega 57 arrow hands or batons would look great on Black Bay. The square hour markers is also great nothing makes me yawn faster than yet another dive watch with round hour markers and no numbers. Too sterile and one dimensional given all the options at disposal. The brand new Longines Hydroconquest for example does a small snowflake hour hand, which is an interesting change up, stick hour markers, a lollipop seconds and arrow for the GMT hand. That's moving the design ball forward.
I love your content so much mate. As someone who is brand new to the watch world it’s nice to watch these videos and get a history lesson on all these wonderful different brands and being helped to understand specs and styles etc… thank you for what you do
This is so good looking. I've been looking at a few homage watches lately. Mostly homages of watches that are no longer in production. This would make a beauty homage for something that's not $3-$4k. I love Tudor, but we all know that would be the price if they did make it again.
Had a Tudor Mini-Sub in the early days of my watch collection back in the early 90s that came with Rolex parts like this one, but with a racheted uni-directional bezel and sapphire crystal. The lume was gone after about 15 or 20 years. Sold it to another watch collector as I grew out of small watches .
Mixed emotions: that is an insane piece of Tudor history, thx to London Guy for allowing you to share it with us. But I’m wearing my P39 and feel it’s Tudor’s Sub. Yes, hoping that in 2024 (updates are done in 2 yr cycles according to my AD so it and the BB Pro will be eligible next yr) the same bright blue as the 42 has comes to the 39. Or a white dial blk bezel P39… Would like the bigger hr markers - that would be awesome.
Please, no faux patina! Why make a watch that looks old from the beginning?! People in the 50s, 60s etc. were buying new-then watches and were not stuck in some vintage-inspired old times mania. For example, in the 007 movies, James B. always had a modern watch for the time when the movie was made. And the indices should be applied (or at least pressed like on Seiko 5), not just painted! Flat indices make it look cheap.
ABSOLUTELY 💯 AGREE 👍 I can't stand this mustard yellow faux patina trend. I think it looks horrendous. I have no idea why anyone would want a modern watch with faux patina
I have the black 7016/0 without the date from 1974. Love it, but for the money they go for these days has made me thinking of selling it. I really agree with your plea to Tudor though. Would be a great watch.
I thjnk that old tudor sub is one of the coolest dive watches ever. It would be amazing , but unfortunately they wont do it . Demand would be huge , but it would hurt sales of their other watches. But we can dream russ !!!
Interesting review mr mwc. The crown guards on those old Tudors are great and make me wish the current models had them… wonder why - is it too similar to the submariners then? Who knows but I’d love a 54 sized Tudor with crown guards! Way more accessible and enjoyable imo!
Would be over the moon if they would but I just can't see Rolex ever letting them do one. Would love to be proven wrong though! Thank you for lovely vid as always, Rus.
dude you are crazy, correct and entertaining ! Tudor was always the "poor man's Rolex" ... but there is an opportunity to do somethingspecial. I only hope that the watch would be 44mm - 45mm
I don't see Tudor ever releasing a Submariner, they have the Black Bay line and that's their "Submariner ". The next BB58 will probably be similar to the new 41mm and the 54. So hopefully by next year we get to see it. Great video, thank you.
Been patiently waiting for a blue Pelagos 39 which I’m convinced they will do at some point although the colour might not be quite right if it’s the same as the larger 42. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do a blue dial BB54 either at some point which I suspect will be as close to a Tudor Submariner as we’ll get. Rolex isn’t going to let that name be used by anyone else.
Yes! Everyone wants it - they should do it with the shadow bezel and faux patina. It wouldn't detract from Rolex sub at all, it has such a unique visual identity even with the same case shape.
I've been waiting for Tudor to revisit the blue Tudor submariner for many years They will never give us what we want , that old blue subby is a thing of beauty , I'm close to pulling the trigger on the black bay blue 41 and just be done with it Or the pelagos takes my fancy what do you think
fun fact: lame turns yellow in the dark and bezels go light in bright sunlight. How can a watch do that at the same time? Well, when isn a watch not an original watch, a frankenwatch if you will 🤔
This would be an awesome release! The closest version is the peligos 39. It would be cool for them to lean in that direction even more when the next version comes out!
Yes yes yes and further more Yeeeeeess! Love iiiiit! And I might of said it already 77 great year for that stunning watch!! It’s me birth year and the watch that got me into collecting watches 😍😍 ooh I want his so bad me wallet hurts 🤣🤣 I think we all are waiting for that blue dial snowflake hand Tudor sub with a little hint of patina 😍😍 get in!! Great video my friend ✊
They've already done so with the release of the Black Bay 54. I imagine they'll release a number of iterations over the coming years in order to improve it.
If you like this watch and are not against homages, take a look at the Baltany D3042AB. 39mm Seiko NH38 316L Stainless Steel Sapphire Crystal with AR Coating 200M $200 Comes in blue or black
But think - the Pelagos 39 ( closest version today) will be £3 million in 5 years the way inflation's going - better buy now (this message has not been sponsored by Tudor).
