If you can raise the American Blackbelly ewe to adulthood, she could become a lead ewe and help catch the other sheep. I've had 2 bottle ewes and lost them way too soon. We train our sheep with baby carrots to come to the fence. This allows the visiting artists/guests to have special experiences. Please eartag her for safety's sake.

Matt, I was an engineer on the team at Cat that designed your backhoe loader in the early 80's . While nobody ever mentioned mounting a winch on the backhoe, it was basically forbidden (kind of) to use the word "Crane" when talking about the backhoe. This was due to significant legal regulations regarding the design and sale of cranes. I never did any crane design work so I'm not familiar with the specifics.

You need an I-Beam electric hoist. Build a frame over the hole. Have a long enough I-Beam so the hoist can role to a dumping area. Then you also have a good means of getting people in and out of the hole too.

Watching you work with the animals being a vet is one of the things of many that I miss.

If you are going to insist on parking that at the hole. I would put cribbing inside from the round shelf to the ceiling. If the ceiling cracks you will have no time to get out of the way. Someone on here suggested building a A frame . That would be the safest way and you can still use your new to you truck.

If you want to use your backhoe/excavator as a crane, install anti drop valves on each hydraulic ram. Most new larger excavators come standard. (For the techos: Anti drop valves stop flow from moving in either direction, eg: up/down, until hydraulic pressure is applied to the opposing side, which pilot opens the check valve)

Got news for you. If the chain breaks on the PTO winch its going to free spool. I towed 1000's of vehicles with a tow truck using a 10,000lb Ramsey electric winch and had zero issues
