What's your honest feelings going into the Community Shield on Saturday and heading towards our Premier League opener against Fulham? I'm confident our new football structure will get a lot more done but there really is so much more to do.
We should all moderate our expectations. Ratcliff already said not to expect challenging before another 3 years. What's there to say again? Of course there's so much more to be done. It will be a work in progress for another 2 years at least. RU-vidrs shouldn't start raising expectations unduly and then creating worries and concerns ...then this all leads to toxicity that we have seen before. Let's stay clear of these this time around and go by the Ineos timeliness.
Worry but don't over react, we barely had any of our starters against Liverpool. Rashford looks somewhat back to his best, he looks hungry to me which I will take over last season. We have the likes of Bruno, Martinez, Dalot, Shaw, Mainoo, Zirkzee and Garnacho to come into the team. I would say though that even before Yoro got injured we need another defender, we need to get De Light done or otherwise move on as we need someone. Also Ugarte, if it is true wants to sign that deal needs to get done, otherwise move on. As for Mazraoui if AWB goes then get it done! I think there is room for cautious optimism and I wouldn't hit the panic button just yet, but clearly we need to get deals done, I reckon once McSauce and AWB get sold the deals will get done, just crossing my fingers and toes that it happens. We don't improve if we don't improve. Yoro and Zirkzee were great deals but it's not enough.
I think INEOS are trying their best. We've seen so much from them so far. The biggest problem here is no one is interested in the players we need to sell.

Can people just relax? Sure, it's not gonna be smooth sailing, but bloody hell, two weeks without movement on the transfer market and people are in a meltdown. We're not going to reshape the squad in one window anyhow, it will be sub-optimal and we should make peace with that.

I agree. The direction is there. I actually trust this process. We have been the laughing stock over the last 15 years regarding transfers... Not anymore. Euro's Kind of screwed up pre-season, but I'm very optimistic for 2025. If Ten Hag does not deliver progress this season he will be out. The fist team will be most of his old players from Ajax, so this will be interesting
It sounds like De Ligt and Mazaroui should be done in the next week or so, then if we spend the rest of the window getting Ugarte over the line I think that will be a very successful first window for the new set up.
Honestly, I feel like the changes will take a while to kick in. They’ve made good progress in the decisions they’ve made on internal staff members and restructuring the mess, now they need to get it right on the pitch. I’m not very confident we’re going anywhere this season. From what I’ve seen in pre-season, match sharpness is lacking, fatigue from Euros and yet more injuries, I feel like we won’t do much better than last year. Not to mention a weird transfer window. I can’t blame Ineos, we all know we need to offload crap players who no longer fit the bill and we have cash flow issues. The question for me is will ETH survive another turbulent season? We have to be aware the clubs around us have really strengthened hard so it’ll be harder than ever to get into the top 4.
Pin this, we'll compete this season......how first team hasn't reported , all of them at least, and still signings to come. And with the positivity throughout the club it'll seep through everyone
Personally, I think it's a transition season for United before the big break. The fact that our players are so poor in performance and professionalism, that no significant club in Europe wants to buy them, tells how average we have been for a decade. The only choice may be to wait till their fruitless contracts wind down and they leave for free while we count our losses and move forward with better signings.
Winning the Charity Shield will be kind of psychological and moral-boosting going into the first few games in the new season. Other than that it doesn’t bring us any point and worst still if we have more injury casualties from the game.
All we did was replace varane and martial who we got no money for with zirkzee and yoro and people are saying “We are cooking”. there is over 8 players in that squad that should be sold

Transfer window started so well with £30M for Mason a few fringe players leaving for some cash and then a few new signings but now everything seems to have stopped. Ideally would have been a few more in ready to start the season. Anyone who comes in now is unlikely to go straight into team for first few games
Players aren't going to leave United to get paid less then they are at United. Look at the teams that are showing some interest in these players. None of them are in the top echelons barring PSG and that's the problem. Let's face it this has been going on for years. Look at Phil Jones as a prime example he was on £100k a week and as a result he sat on that contract for 5 years. £26m that cost United for one player. Sancho is on treble that!

Some context for you, the mob down the road doubled Bernardo Silva's contract wage in 2023 to £150000 a week. He has been considered Man City's player of the season for multiple years. We pay almost double that for a guy that we've barely played in the last 3 years.
The biggest thing this window was sorting out the NON PLAYING STAFF. The squad will be heavily change next season with more players at the end of contracts or be easier to be sold. Next season it’s the really movement and specially once the powers above ETH had a year to truly assess everything.
I feel like we’re seeing a mini transfer recession with so many clubs over-spending in the last few years, seems like less activity and more caution in the market this summer. Hopefully we can make our sales
Can we all calm down, we can't get rid of every single player and replace them all in the one window. INEOS have inherited ALOT of crap, mainly players being on ridiculous wages so nobody wants to submit a bid for them. ETH now has the correct structure and support in place. Zirkzee and Yoro are great signings, especially since we fought off competition from Real Madrid, PSG & Liverpool for Yoro. By the end of the window AWB will be at West Ham and we'll replace him with Mazaraoui. Then we'll have Ugarte on Loan and sign MDL too. It will be a shaky start to the season but once Yoro and Hojlund are back we'll see where we're at. Then in the January transfer window get Amrabat on a free and maybe another reinforcement. I'm actually excited for a season for the first time in years.
All these don't change the fact they should sell some players. No one said they should sell everybody. So are you saying you're comfortable with what's going on?
Yes but Mason and Willy cover the Yoro fee. The only player we’ve bought is a backup striker from Bologna and we crying broke ffs (after losing varane and Ronaldo and de gea recently off the wage bill)

Just wondering, does it make sense to overspend and allow EPL to deduct say 10 points from us. With that few much better players, it could potentially be better for us and should make up for more than the deduction in points.
I'm am also concerned the war in the middle east has knock on effects. Casemiro was never going to Saudi in which other league does he have 300k a week value? Or even 100k a week. The tour planning was ridiculous. We have made so many changes in staff, which was needed but chemistry takes time. Are we calling this the first season of ETH? SJR did say before the summer transfer window started that it would take two or three windows to make the necessary changes. Also, hard to believe we don’t have a viable offer for Pellistri. He’s a good player; just surplus to our requirements right now.
The reality is we’ve only signed 2 players and we’re still seeing the reality of last seasons problems continuing this season. All the structural changes wont matter if the reality is still the same as last season on the pitch.

Honestly, after last seasons performances, things can only get better. I do think we're stuck in a tricky situation with players in/out though- I'm wondering if there's any hesitation to get rid of (for example) Lindelof because it's not guaranteed we will find a replacement in time but also with our rate of injury, there would be no players at all, even the ones we want to sell.
From a FFP POV, Zirkzee n Yoro outlay for this season is approx. €17m which is almost balanced by Kambwala transfer for €11.5m leaving a net spend of -€6m. The wages offered to Zirkzee n Yoro is balanced by Varane wages. There is still Martial wages to play with. If the initial reports of £50m net spend is taken into account there ia still room to add quality players. The issue is going to clubs who are stronger in negotiations instead of going for deals with clubs who may have gems. Example, Anton Stach at Hoffenhiem. It is time to change strategy and look at clubs other than Chelsea, Tottenham, Bayern, Real Madrid, Atalanta, PSG, Sporting, Benfica, Juventus, Milan clubs but rather go for deals with other German, Spanish, French clubs.
I know that you have this standard of doing videos around 10 minutes, but maybe do an exception and do a longer tactics video before the season starts, where you talk about our tactical setup in greater depth. Just a suggestion.
Due to old regime it's made it hard for the new regime to sell players not cos they aren't capable but cos of the insane wages these players are on. Thus isn't on INEOS at all they are doing their best trying to sort out the tons of mess the old regime left behind. Due to our finances being so tight it was always going to be difficult. I'm still positive we'll get the likes of De Ligt, Mazraoui & Ugarte signed up & the likes of Wan Bissaka, McTominay & Lindelof plus the likes of Hannibal & Pellistri get sold. INEOS have done very well so far the amount of changes they've made bringing in proper footballing people for the good of the long term which is what we're aiming towards.
A lot of players even if they were on lower salaries not many will line up for their services. I'm still a believer in Casemiro. I think with a faster back line behind he'll rediscover his form.
I am more worried because of the remaining signings that are pending, we need ugarte, de ligt, and mazraui (hope I got these spellings right), if we don’t get these 3 in, I am sorry the struggle continues

For me the greatest problem is Casemiro & Sancho those two players need to be ship out. I can’t imagine signing a new midfielder and sitting Casemiro on the bench with huge wages.

The amount of travel involved in these pre-season 'world tours' won't be helping us any with injuries and recovery. I understand there's the commercial aspect. But surely it would have made more sense to keep our pre-season fully in the UK this year - Due to the timing of the euros?
I fear that, with how PSR works, we're still too hindered this summer window by all the bad business in the previous 2 years, and I think that'll prevent us from signing Ugarte, which I think will end up being the most important signing to improve the squad the most. If Casemiro is still the starting CDM when the window closes, I don't think there's any way we'll improve enough to solidify a top-4 spot this season. That said, if the ONLY signing that we make for the rest of the window is Ugarte, I think things will improve significantly. Bringing in De Ligt and exchanging AWB for Mazroui is good business, and still very much needed, but the midfield is where the majority of the problems with this current squad occurred last season, and unless we bring in another mid, I feel we're doomed to more of the same.
Sancho, McT, VNL, Hannibal, Antony and Pellistri needs to move on to another club!! But sad side of it is that no one will buy Case nor Antony maybe the same with Sancho... Really hope Inoes atleast can get De ligt, Ugarte and Mazraoui before the window is closed
Sam, the way you talk about the pre season tours is if only United is involved. If other teams are doing the same, how come they are still successful. You talk about Casemiro and Sancho needing to be sold. Who will take on those crazy wages? Be realistic and know that we are stuck with those two until they both have maybe a year to go on their contracts. Worried you may be but stay realistic too.
No offer for Casemiro until now. He is staying imo. Bissaka is likely to be sold. We need more incomings likes of De Ligt, Ugarte, Mazaroui atleast. For that sales of Mctominay, Lindelof, Pellistri, Hannibal etc. are much needed.
So much positive work has been done by Ineos thus far, but a lot lot more work needs to be done. We are definitely on the right track though. Do I expect us to win the premier league within a couple of years? No chance. Do I expect us to get top four this season? I reckon we have a slim chance currently. Do I reckon we can win a cup or two this season? Absolutely. And that is where I believe we're at as a club so far. But the important thing is that the changes we need to get done, are being done, finally. We're moving in the right direction.
The Glazier's penchant for using flashy and absurdly expensive signings as a marketing tool, rather than to serve a footballing purpose, will continue to plague the club for at least another few years before the deadwood gets cleared out. Even with finally having solid ownership and a good organization in place, the Glazier legacy will undermine progress and success.
We need at least 3 but honestyl 5 more signings.. It's hard with the FFP and every other club want us to overpay, but there won't be top4 with this team.. the defense is full of injury prone players. Casemiro is over.. we cannot sell players because every team is economically underestimate our players too.
What really bugs me is that we just don't look for the bargains. There are loads of players that would improve our squad for less than £10m and demand peanuts as a wage.
Missing players due to international commitments is a moot point every team has it and what are you gonna do. Why would the players leave for mid tier clubs and less money when they know they’ll get games at United this season? Unfortunately this is the predicament the Glazers and previous football operations left us in. This will take longer than one window. Let’s focus on the positives within the current group - Mount feels like a new signing, Amad breaking through, Amass and Collyer will get games. We’ll have to work with what he have first - hence the investment in coaches and structure. Let’s improve what we have first, and then start offloading on mass. Just breathe Sam…haha

The majority of fans think pre season is just about fitness. I'm in the minority that puts a lot more emphasis on routines and patterns of play ( no matter who plays). It's about trying new things and fine-tuning them. All in time for the 1st game of the season. I understand players are away or injured, but that's no excuse for standards, both from players & coaches. If we take pre-season too lightly, we could end up chasing points too early. Puts us on the back foot. We have some tough games, and I want us to be ready. To all those who will come back with negative comments....I'll come back to you individually when you are screaming Ten Hag out.
Casemiro, AWB to leave before Maguire lol. Maguire earns more than enough to pay 2 backup CBs but nobody is talking about it, he's not even the first choice
The damage was done the second these players signed the contracts they were given under Glazer ownership. No clubs are going to come in for Casemiro, Sancho et al. that will match it becasue their wage doesn't match their talent and the players aren't going to give that up so easily. Not Ineos' fault, nothing they can do about.

You know we’re about to bring in Matias the right back and the Paris and midfield the style of looks good. they look fluid they look sharp and if you remember Chelsea from preseason last year beating everyone five mil preseason doesn’t mean anything Manchester city lost games, not gonna have bedded in properly by the start of the season unless a couple of preseason games get done behind closed doors but being concerned isn’t all exaggeration😊

I think Mason gets so much disrespect saying all the years is an off the ball runner when he gets the ball, he’s a ball carrier. He is very tidy on the ball. He’s got a good cross on him. You know he will get goals fit his press energy is valuable but is a good ball carrier he’s safe on the ball and he looks good but people just wanna say you spent 50 million on a runner and so disrespectful.
All those players have not been part of preseason 100% agree but they are all back in training now for 11 days and they just come off a competition they should already be fit from the competition of rain. I would assume there are behind closed doors games and I’m just assuming but I don’t care about the Manchester city game, so we’ve got both players coming back for training for 11 days and some of them have been there for a week anyway so they’ve had 18 days of training not with team and they’ve not had an issue but they will behind closed doors. There is plenty of time to start the season.
