You can save the plastic from your coops. Carefully remove the staples , label the plastic as to which coop so you can use it next year. We don't remove our plastic til later in the spring so they are more protected from the winds and rain. You might want to put hardware cloth on your hoop coops to keep the chickens safer. Predators can and will rip through chicken wire. Does the bunny coop have wire underground so she can't dig and tunnel out?

WE started with geese 25 yrs ago - and had bears that came out and freaked out the geese - but they chased the bear, -- picture 9 geese chasing one bear - he ran! THEY PURSUED! Life is not something we control - only the goddess. Be well!

@@mpccenturionomg!!! The geese stood their ground. Though I’ve heard geese can be aggressive if they feel threatened, is this true?

It's a great channel. Thanks for taking us along with you. I've been smallholding for nearly half a century in the UK; trust me, you never stop learning! What about a couple of sheep? Shearing would be a new experience, the fleese for insulating the animal enclosures. Just a thought! Take care, and wish you guys well.😊

Sory for your loss. I lost my 3 years old cat, Raider, two Fridays ago. It's a heart breaker when you lose an animal that has a personality.

That’s so neat that you feed the broody hen where she’s sitting. I hope she hatches out every one of those eggs she’s sitting on! I think it’s inspiring that you keep going and don’t give up. The way I look at it some of the hardest lessons we learn it just ensures we won’t repeat them. It’s difficult not knowing exactly what happened but when we know better we do better. So keep doing your research but I think it’s fantastic that you do have the courage to jump in to raising an animal that you don’t know every single thing about because goodness knows we never as first time parents ever know everything but we learn as we go. No on ever said it would be easy and it’s not it takes grit hard work and determination to do what you are doing! Keep the faith you are doing it instead of being stuck in the procrastination part where some people never get beyond. Just remember with each loss makes each win that much sweeter! 🥰❤️🍁🙏🏻🇨🇦

And you would be surprised on how many eggs that they can actually hatch out my little silky Momma 15 out of 16 eggs recently and she’s a bantam chicken. And my other two hens “Polish” went broody side-by-side, and they were laying on 24 total.

With the rabbit, I would have some ear mite drops on hand. Wal-Mart has them in the dog or cat area and they are affordable. Around $5.00. Watch the bunny for scratching at the ears and redness in the ears. Just a heads up.

I have been there with wanting to quit many times. I lost my turkey suddenly last month, I knew she was sick but couldn't figure out what was wrong and we don't have a vet that treats turkeys here. She held on for 3 weeks while I tried everything to save her and I couldn't, she passed 2 days before my birthday, it crushed me. Then yesterday I came home from work and my goats were missing. They managed to bend a section of their fencing and crawl under. I couldn't find them any where and where they got out there is a coyote den on the vacant land behind our farm. I thought for sure I was going to lose them especially being coyote mating season. Luckily one of the neighbors found them and secured them so I could come grab them. Running a homestead is physically and mentally draining but it's so worth it in the end! You guys are truly amazing. And honestly goats are probably the hardest animals I've raised.

I think the hens felt sorry for you only getting one egg, so they laid an extra where they knew you would see it. I’m also glad people were kind to you when you lost the chicken and the goats. I know you would love to know what happened to the two goats, but somethings we will just never know. They may have already been ill when you got them. I love your vlogs and I’m glad Brandon Eddy told us about you. Your vlogs are very educational. - Sue in AZ

And another thing, since you mentioned all the positives and the negatives through experience. I don’t care what anyone says. The best experience is hands-on experience. If your hands ain’t on it then you’re not learning you’re just remembering words in a book. With much Love from the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. ❤️‍🔥💪🏽🤠🎣

It's so so sad loosing an animal but it's also so normal for any homestead. I'd say give goats another try, maybe get a mama goat with kids. Kiko goats are pretty hardy if you can find any in your area.

I love those small goats, I spend most of my time at the Oakland County Fair around the goat pens. We had our grandsons with us at the birthing barn watching new life being born. I'm trying to absorb as much as possible to prepare for our move north to 5.5 acres in Roscommon. Keep putting out the content, I am liking it.

There's dual purpose (layers & meat). We choose based on dual purpose and non- aggressive, winter hardy. Buff Orpingtons are my favorite.

Greetings. I have chickens and have for about 12yrs. I like to think that I finally have it figured out; then I realize that, that is Vanity, and that they'll be throwing something new at me soon. I have one 4yr old French Black Copper Marans (who has laid 5 eggs in the last week!) and 10@ 5wk old Golden Comets, ready to go into their "playpen" in the coop. I have no clue how she'll take this, she's been alone all winter, the others were killed by possums. I like your set up and always watch your videos. I'm in the mtns of VA

Out of curiosity, how many laying hens do you have? I’m getting a guesstimate of 90%+ from mine every day still blows my mind I’m getting more eggs in winter then summer 🤷🏻‍♂️ which makes me think this spring and summer are going to be out of this world. I definitely need to mail you soon

@@melindaroth5796 There are also "all purpose" chickens which is what I have. They are great layers and get great meat development. Delawares are a great one for beginners. Great layers, FANTASTIC meat flavor, healthy and hardy, good foragers, and the roosters are generally friendly while also being good flock protectors. They take about 4 months to get to "harvest."

BOTTLE babies. I hate when people sell bottle babies (that are not bum or orphan) to beginners. You're basically setting them up for failure. When we sell our lambs we will be selling weanling dam-raised lambs. They are healthier animals overall and you set up the animal AND new owner (especially if they're a beginner) up for success.

Remove the eggs she can’t keep warm or you will have rotten eggs and you don’t want that.
