Not offside, you need to watch it again and study the Laws of the Game. The AR and the center referee both made mistakes. It was not offside because the Madrid player headed the ball, putting everyone onside. The AR should not have raised his flag for offside and the play should have continued. The center referee should have ignored the flag and let play continue and then let VAR review the entire sequence. We will never know if it was a goal or not because the center referee blew his whistle, thus stopping play. I suspect that the goal still would have been scored had the referee not blown his whistle as that was not a sure save by the goalkeeper. FTR - I am a certified USSF referee and have refereed hundreds of games, most as an AR. As an AR you always keep your flag down and let the play continue in that situation and then review the sequence in your head and with the center referee, if necessary, in order to get the call right. That was one of the biggest mistakes I have ever seen in a top level professional game. Truly horrible. While it is good that the AR apologized, it makes no difference now.
