FYI: that pilling footage comes from the garment BEFORE it was blocked. It was so pilly that I had to use a gleener on it before I blocked it (which didn’t really help). I realize and understand that a dryer can agitate yarn, and so when I put it in for 2 mins after blocking, I did so knowing it was already pilling like crazy and didn’t care if it did a little more with drying.

I believe the “extra-fine” refers to the wool being in a certain range of micron count (the measurement for measuring the diameter of a single fiber - so the lower the micron the finer the wool). But I’m not certain about whether there is a standard that is followed as to what yarn can be labeled “extra fine” merino, etc.

As a previous commenter already said, the ‘extrafine’ refers to the diameter of the fiber - merino usually measures 15-25 microns and anything finer than 19.5 is considered extrafine.

superwash will grow a lot with blocking and bricohe always makes a very stretchy fabric that tends to stretch further with time. when blocking a large item i always try and pick up the whole thing in a ball rather than picking it up by one edge when it's wet as the weight of the water will stretch it out of shape very quickly.

Thank you for thanking my honesty! It can be a little nerve-wracking to be so honest, and I really do want to honor and respect small businesses, so I would never want to harm a yarn company - and I hope this comes off as respectful, but truthful, as possible! I still want to support this company in the future! Also, totally agree on the blanket front. I'm thinking I will probably wear it in person in meetings and in the office, but whenever on a call where you can't see the full outfit, I will remove.

You might look at Melanie Berg's shawl designs. She has some beautiful ones that would be great for work and don't look like blankets. :-)

Unfortunately the softer a yarn is the easier it tends to pill, for example cashmere and alpaca you need to be very gentle with. A way to combat the pulling is to hold a silk mohair with the soft yarn and this will usually prevent pilling

@@jacqueismaking definitely recommend holding it with something if you plan to make a garment as alpaca on its own does not hold its shape like wool does

Also I wouldn’t worry too much about it looking like a blanket on calls… I don’t think that should have any bearing on how someone on the other end perceives you and what’s wrong with a blanket in a cold office anyway? Office temperatures were designed to be comfortable based on a man’s body temperature and we are supposed to live with it 🤷🏼‍♀️
