It (his religious belief) was something that was important to him AT THAT TIME, which implies that it isn't important to him now. Hatch has also recently appeared in a TV commercial for a brand of coffee. (The Mormon church is against drinking coffee.) It looks to me like Hatch has strayed from the flock. 😂

The taste of Somtum in Thailand is different from Laos, many ingredients in Somtum especially the Somtum Thai ( not put fermented fish)is in central Thai, Ayutthaya which is international city in the past many hundreds years ago so there were many ingredient from other countries such as tomato, peanut, or even papaya was also from South America, dried shrimp also have to be near by the sea but Laos is a land lock country so where they can get shrimp in the past? It’s the same that we say Ramen is Japanese food not Chinese food even the noodle soup is originated from China, but the local ingredients make it different from the original and become different menu. The Somtum, papaya salad that the foreigners know is from Thailand. The Laos later make somtum like Thai somtum because of a lot of Laos have worked in Thailand and when they went back home they just copy how to make Somtum in Thai way for example not putting shrimp paste.

You must be Laos growing abroad that never been exposed to thai language. Most of Laos in Lao PDR understand Thai thoroughly via Thai media.
