I watched some sets of Kobayan playing against Big Bird, Angry Bird, and Phenom while they were in Japan and he looked extremely good. I thought pretty much everyone had dropped Zangief except Snake Eyez so I had to play him for myself.

As a Gief main I prefer JP, and Guile over this matchup. MAYBE even Sim. You could frame trap a Juri player 49 times consecutively, and on the 50th time, where you go for something different, they'll still press.

Love seeing Kobayan getting some recognitio! But I've seen him several times do drive rush combos as a blockstring and getting burned out as a result. Does anyone knows why he does that? Maybe to push his opponent?

He's not so bad. Every pro on every tier list makes a point of saying any character can win, and still viewers turn it into 'these characters auto win and these characters auto lose'. This was a fantastic player doing amazing things and you boil it down to 'character is hype but so bad'. There's a player there! They were hype and played super well. We don't need to lose sight of that just because tiers exist. It's not like he's a broken unusable character from a game made 30 years ago. Snake eyes and the other giefs are godlike but they're not literally gods doing the impossible.

trying it in training, you can cancel the first frame or so of a jump into SPD. so do the SPD motion and end with a jump and then hit HP just after the jump starts. if you look up super-jump cancels it's a similar mechanic

@@creepyneighbors4951 Yes, regular SPD, you can cancel your jump into it as long as it's within the first 5 frames of the jump, known as the "pre-jump frames" where you're still grounded but unthrowable.

Cancelled the pre jump frames into an SPD. Essentially makes the SPD throw invuln.

This entire video only proved to me how unbalanced and ridiculous this version is. The once a year balance patch was absolutely a horrible decision and really showed Capcoms overconfidence.

I don’t know if balance patches would even have helped Zangief lol. Half the time capcom nerfs him when he is bottom 1. Definitely, aki would have been buffed pretty quickly though and maybe Lily and Manon as well, since they are new characters even though they are grapplers too.
