incredible interview - he's so articulate here and seems so natural and at ease. I don't know if he's just familiar with BBC studios at this point in his life, or if the interviewer and support crew are exceptionally good at making people feel welcome and at ease, but the magic is happening here without contrivance and it is beautiful
100% ... and what an absolute treat hearing his brutally honest, lovely reminiscing on how he is in how he is. A gift and inspiration. He has saved many, in him being him.
Anger is intrinsically connected to creativity. And I've always thought angry Thom makes the best music. That's why Harrowdown Hill is the best track on The Eraser. And that's why Hail to The Thief is my favourite Radiohead album. I think Kid A is the most aesthetically pleasing, wonderfully experimental and probably the most emotionally revealling Thom has been on a Radiohead album. However, Hail To The Thief is gloriously angry and coincidently where Radiohead were masters of their craft.
Thom has the kind of artistic courage that all creative people have. You make an album and take the best song and leave it out. If the album is still brilliant, you know you’re good. A case in point was the song I Promise. I can’t believe they thought it wasn’t strong enough. It’s that bravery which sets these people apart. Lennon and McCartney were the exception. Two geniuses in fierce competition who, because of basically discovering the God particle of music, were able to produce brilliant music at a rate that will never, ever be equalled. Nobody should try and copy them, just be yourself. I feel Thom has done this and has transcended into a genre all of his own.
My gosh, a kindred spirit. Music to me is the same. It's not something you just listen to, it's like the air we breathe. Without it, I wouldn't survive.
Thank you for this. I haven't heard Thom so much, other than music and the movies. This was a great interview. And thank you Thom for the creative rush.
And here I thought i could not possibly love him more, but here we are. He is so humble and real. He is so well spoken. I feel lucky to breathe the same air as this man
Absolutely amazing! I know he'll disagree but I put Thom in the sphere of those extraordinary human beings and artists that have had an amazing impact on humanity and my life in particular, as well as the perception of one of my passions: Music. Hope to keep hearing you both musically and philosophically! Thank You
he is really exception to all the rules. and as always anything special is kind of cosmic coincidence. so glad Radiohead exists and somehow stays grounded
This band has brought me to tears I dared not feel or show. I’ve been on a desert island with them for years. God bless em’ I never knew I had so much in common…not near the weight but got a detached retina, sedated in a dark old children’s hospital room…Valium and managed to pry a Millennium Falcon out of it. Obsessed with tearing electronic apart. Lots of time alone. So much time, head between two large 70’s speakers. Queen, Fleetwood Mac and Tomita. What a story…..
Thom you’re you’re my hero :’’) heard some of his newer experimental solo stuff for the first time today (I’ve got about 150 reliable songs that’ I know I can count on to be great since high school … I have hurt aversion :’) but I felt brave today… in the words of earlier this afternoon Megan “this fucking BANGS!!” It’s the kind of music I bang out of my apartment too :) experimental music is the most rewarding to make in itself.. more pls :’)
I can actually pick up a bit of Radiohead but Thom especially influence in the tasteful variety of your songs in your "my tracks" playlist😆. (In case no one has told you, you can afford to take yourself a bit more seriously.) Don't stop... it's nice to see.
Not to detract from Nina, but Jeff Buckley's cover of Lilac Wine always gets me there. I'm glad to see the song sticks out to another through another artist.
Pure elation for 34 years. I feel the same when listening to them. Pure elation! Thank you for the raw and beautifully exposed music and words you have blessed me with hearing
15:21 when he describes Talking Heads ‘Remain in Light’ as like a bomb going off in his head >>> Wish he could see and feel everyone’s first listen to Paranoid Android and appreciate how many bombs in how many heads back in 97 and beyond that he and RH have set off…. Radiohead are a Mind Melting Band. Full of heart and soul. They come along Once In A Lifetime. And you usurp even Talking Heads. Radiohead are eternal. For ever. And yes, I’m drunk. Ps. Give this man a regular weekly show on BBC 6 Music!
His speech about why he'd choose Scott Walker - It's Rainin Today to be on a desert island is so beautiful ! It really does justice to the work of both I think
Great compliment to Mary Anne Hobbs. An interview characterised by mutual respect, politeness and sympathy for each other. It's pure joy to listen to Thom Yorke's voice in such a relaxed manner. I am looking forward for the next interview!
Great interview, one of my all time favourite singers and bands and listen to some of the back stories - quite illuminating. Thanks Thom for being so honest and modest too.
Is this what you need to know? John Peel (DJ) used to broadcast the most amazing music every weekday night on Radio 1, including this track: Freeman Hardy & Willis Acid by Squarepusher :)
@@FaulddrLaerynn Yes, it would be nice to have a list. I suppose it wouldn't be to difficult to identify each piece, as they are all named throughout the interview.
“Artistic courage? My bum. When an artist starts chewing whole another artists then you being catered to hopefully dissipates. Oh, Rich Thom? Represents me? I saw what happened with Pink Floyd, disgusting. Posh it up all you Lilly, I ain’t suckin on it.” ,dan’
