Welcome to the Behind the scenes comparison video, where we look at Behind the scenes pics from the Classic era of Thomas and Friends and we compare them to the footage they were filming.
Any images that were "leaked" and not meant to be public are not in this video.
I took a lot of inspiration from The Unlucky Tug's Deleted scenes video, that is my favorite video of his...
I feel really proud of this video, please excuse some editing flaws, this is one of my first times on using premier...
Enough of me, enjoy the video! I can finally focus on routes again now, I haven't touched trainz in like 5 days lol!

So do I. I watched this when I was little everyday, episode by episode. It's actually missed, as I would've liked to see the series one last time. The people who created this fabulous stories are heroes in a way, they not only helped me grow up, but many more.

You just got appreciate the art that went into the classic series. Modern Thomas just can’t compete with what David Mitton and Britt Allcroft created, even the Brenner Era. Something about live action model animation makes the show feels like your a real railway, and also the music adds the the show.

Well, it was still worse than CGI in my opinion, especially when the mouths don't move and Sir Topham Hatt is a FUCKING TOY DOLL. Model Series just doesn't capture the charm and beauty of the CGI series.

@@ultronic2765 the emotion came from the narration and facial expression the models made it feel real with them being live rather than cartoon and cgi, but it really depends what you grew up on if you watched it when they did the animated faces then the classics will feel old to you

They did, they shot it in Shepperton Studios I believe, which is one vast film set normally.

Thomas is like Sonic. The Classic Thomas v. Modern Thomas. Classic Thomas was actually very well done, and it was very cherished. Modern Thomas... Same as Modern Sega. All downhill, and not only that, but... Forces = Thomas Season 25

Thomas hates his snowplow, James doesn't like to haul coal trucks and Donald and Douglas are always arguing, but Duck always gets the job done without fuss.

Classic version was a tad creepy (like Jay-Jay), but 4 this, it's impressive dtails in the making of the whole series. (Ex. of creepy: Henry in a foggy night, and troublesome cars fall off a ravine + high tides.)

This was my childhood. Jeez I didn't know that Thomas was such that old! It's unbelievable how much work there is under all this masterpiece. The style, the creativity, the story, Thomas the Engine is the best because it's something far from common cartoons, it's something that created a world and indeed today it's 2021 and we still remember this❤

I am surprised a new type of set was used for more locations of Sodor in Thomas and the Magic Railroad like the other sets for the other locations of the island during the show; it's the first Thomas and Friends movie and it was lucky to show all the characters working without acting silly, having an accident and/or crashing off the track, having drivers and firemen in their cabs, but it removed some characters and it featured real people. It was even Diesel 10's debut, same for Lady the Lost Engine; she was voiced by Britt Allcroft who created the show, bringing all the classic stories to life!

I enjoyed the Duck and Stepney Adventure Theme from the time the Great Western Engine and the Bluebell Engine hauled three express coaches across Sodor's landscapes toward a big railroad station. I also enjoyed the Runaway Theme from the moments when every one of the locomotive characters fled in despair, or accelerated uncontrollably or were pushed or pulled by the cars they were transporting toward a building, track edge or another set of cars. English train engines are only meant for hauling short lines of cars; two and/or three can haul lots of cars.

Some of those classic Thomas and Friends theme musics I will add to Time Shift; The Post Train Theme for when the Midnight Express travels far as it returns to Transylvania, Romania, Edward's Season 2 Theme for when Streamliner Da Vinci navigates the ecosystems of Costa Rica for the Amazon Rainforest and Lost World from Up, Oliver's Escape Theme for when Timmy Nysalt, Janelle "Jennis" Thundorns, Megalo Station, Alysa Dramenbelt, Stefano Fornaciari, Bethany Shriram, Jamie Michelle Luther, Gavin Catheus, Douglas Weisenheimer, Diantholeerum the Dilophosaurus, and Shindus Chippli and Vanatha Gahlyn the Indian Spy Vehicles escape India on Stefano's Riva runabout speedboat alongside two classic ferries; Shindus and Vanatha carry Diantholeerum as they follow the children, Duck and Stepney's Adventure Theme for when Casey Junior takes the travelers across the snowy tundra of Alberta, Canada, Storm at Brendam Docks for when the travelers are in Tokyo, Japan around the approach of a typhoon at night and the old tramp steamer from Cranky Bugs rams into them; it later balances its docking sequence in Tuneopolis' harbor yard, the Runaway Theme for when Casey Junior and Putt-Putt enter an awry acceleration with loose steering as they wind through Australia's outback area and the Chase Tune for when they traverse Sodor; Putt-Putt will complete the failed loads for delivery unless the show looked different.

It probably took a month or two to make one model. But it depends on how many model makers were collaborating on building them, painting them, getting the electronics, making the faces, buying the clay, buying the resin for the official faces, etc.

Practical effects are always better than anything animated. People put a lot of work into what was essentially a children's show about trains and the quality remains. Television would be so much better if studios would go back to practical effects and leave the budget CGI out.

Seasons 1-7 were shot on 35mm Fuji stock as far as I’m aware. When HIT Entertainment took over, they switched to video tape, and then eventually to HD digital video.

What I know is that they filmed in London's Shepperton Studios for the whole time they used live-action models (season 1-12). I think they between season 2 and 3 "just" increased the production quality of the show.

@@antonberglund117 Actually No Season 1 wasn't filmed at Sheperton Studios it was filmed at a Warehouse, Season 2-12 is where the model era was mostly filmed at Sheperton Studios
