The entire Maze Runner series is basically the choice between saving the world or saving their friends. Thomas chose his friends and Teresa chose the world. Both are not wrong but both could not cope with the other’s choice.
JNike I understand your point. The scientists of the past indeed performed autopsies on human bodies (most of which were already dead, might I add) as a way to document both the autonomy of the body and to describe the function of each organ. Without that, our medicine will not be as advanced as today’s time. I may add that if the cure for the Flare was able to be conducted without human trials, WCKD would most definitely have gone for that option. However, the cure can only be harvested from living cells of the immune which cannot be replicated in the lab. So, however unfortunate it is, a human trial that stimulates the brain in which produces said cells was necessary. I agree their methods was most inhumane but there were no clear path around it. The only reason human testing is not allowed in the modern time is because it is unnecessary, we can test cures on viral cells themselves without a host or on animals if need be. But, eventually when it comes down to it, there will be a time when a human test is necessary. You say they kidnap unwilling children but the children themselves have lost all their memory. Who are you to say that they did not sign a contract of agreement or committed to the trials prior to losing their memories? In addition to the fact that both Thomas and Theresa have been confirmed to actually work with WCKD before being sent up into the maze. I am not saying Thomas was wrong to have chosen his friends, he has every right to do so. All I’m saying is that Theresa also did what she thought was right and that in itself does not make her wrong. Also, please do not attack the person in your next argument. Attack the argument itself.
JNike I would like to reiterate again to please not attack the person making the argument. Although I am arguing for Theresa in this case, I can very well hold a similar argument for Thomas. These are not my personal beliefs, but a sign that I can be open-minded when it comes to other people’s decisions. You like to talk about morals. I, on the other hand, will talk about ethics. In scientific study, an ethically correct experiment is when the results value higher than the risks. In this case, a cure is of a much higher value than the risks WCKD is taking to get there (by their standards of course). This does not mean that they are putting a price on the heads of the immune but signifies that the cure, which can save the lives of the greater population and possibly reverse the effects of the Flare is more important. This, in turn, makes their trials ethically correct. This also does not mean WCKD is heartless or makes Theresa a traitor. These labels are subjective to the person they apply to. The greater population of which the cure will save will see Theresa as a savior. Thomas also once believed their aim was true. WCKD may have chosen to be the bad guy in the eyes of the immune but that does not mean they feel no guilt in doing so. Their sense of purpose to revive a dead world is held far higher than their sense of justice. Their decision lies on a morally gray ground and cannot be so easily defined as right or wrong. As a third party, this is how this situation must be viewed as. We cannot let bias taint our perception of the argument. You, much like everyone else who read the books or watched the movie, are inclined to tilt towards the side of Thomas and his friends because he is the protagonist. They story follows his pain and struggles and he is seen as a more favorable character only because you cannot see what Theresa had to go through, what the rest of the world had to go through. Bias blinds people.
JNike A question for you then: What do you suggest WCKD have done instead? Leave the world to die? Did you think the immune, who were mere children at the time of the Flare, would have been able to survive without adults in a world without resources? Would you prefer humanity to be completely wiped out of existence? Thomas indeed once believed he was doing the right thing by complying with WCKD but him as a person could not allow himself to watch his friends suffer, so he made his choice. This in no way makes him wrong, but it also does not make him right as his decision was to condemn humanity to its eventual fate. In the book, Theresa talked about her mother. After she regained her memories, she recalled how she had to watch her mother turn into a crank. How she clawed her own eyes out and went insane. WCKD lived in reality while the immune were stuck in the Glade. They are also humans with their own lives, their own family. Do you not think they would also have had to watch their loved ones succumb to the disease? Why else would they have chosen to join the fight for a cure? Not a single character in the series came out without injury. Emotional scars are not something we can measure and compare. I talked about ethics before, but that was just the technical aspect of the argument. In the end, it just boils down to how each character felt, how effected they are by their experiences and each made their choices based on that. We cannot disregard someone’s pain by claiming that our own hurts more.
in the books they make her choice seem so much more logical - when she gets her memories back she remembers her mother ripping her own eyes out once she turned into a crank, and she doesn't want other innocent people to go through that, hence her choice to save the world over he friends. she stood by it, and I can respect that a lot
that doesn't mean you can decide others fate . She literally agreed to let innocent people be living corpse on the name of cure who were lied about getting to live somewhere safe . Sorry , but her choice was bullsh*t nomattwr how logical they try to make it sound.
When an actor/actress takes a role and makes you want to hate them/slap them across the face, you know they’re really good at what they do. Props to Kaya
@@matts1603 lmao i’ve been calling it the flare and i got so used to it when i was calling my friend I said “Idk man flare is dangerous uh don’t know if you should go to the beach yet” and she was confused 😭
Is that suppose to make it ok? Since she didn't waiver in her goal for a boy that makes it perfectly fine what she did to all those teenagers and kids?
Ik I feel like she believed that if she were to help find the cure she would help her fiends, mostly Thomas. But the way she betrayed them was really harsh.
You can’t blame her, wckd was the only group she knew working on a cure. She watched her own mother pull her eyes out cuz of this virus. She was desperate. She watched Minho get tortured and you can see through her eyes that she doesn’t want to watch. She really was hoping that torturing Minho was worth because deep down, she still cared. I can’t really pick whether to hate or like Teresa. I love kaya tho.
i literally love teresa so much. she had her reasons and i think it’s important to understand why she did what she did. first, in the second movie, WCKD gave her all of her memory back. she remembered working with them for years, and seeing her mother rip off her own eyes in front of her after months of craziness. then she saw her friends dying of the same illness. she wanted to save them, to save the humanity. and she found a cure ! she’s a hero, who made hard decisions. but she didn’t killed anyone.
Effy Stonem Lol, she is not a hero. She is a traitor. Brenda was the first one to get cured. The right arm’s doctor could have figured it all out back then, but then Teresa betrayed them and the doctor died ( I do not remember the doctors name.) Teresa doesn’t deserve any love or sympathy. She was willing to let countless of people get tortured and killed. She is not a hero. She is the girl who screwed up big time. Edit: and when you think about it. Who did she save with the cure? Oh yes! No one which means that all the people that were tortured and killed by WICKED died for nothing!
Unfortunately the books have ended, but apprently Disney will make more Maze runner movies. www.cbr.com/fox-plans-more-sequels-to-popular-movie-franchises-post-disney-merger/
@@ar0568 James Dashner is actually in the middle of writing another book! Its gonna be from Newt's perspective in death cure, I believe. You can check it out on his Instagram!
Minho is the best character, just saying he's the coolest Edit: thank you so much for the likes Edit: 0_0 almost 900 likes...thats insane this is the most likes i have ever gotten
This scene felt so deep and scary to me... Like for me it was in par with their kiss. Idk, the vibe when she looked for him in the crowd made me want to cry
@@kalayas3867 Then we might as well torture and kill everyone with the coronavirus and justify it by telling everyone that we are trying to save the world?
I can accept that she died in the end, but after watching Newt die minutes before I hoped she would survive, but since she represented the good intentions of WCKD and was the opposite to Thomas it kinda makes sense. Also the kiss in the end is in my opinion a symbol for Thomas respecting and understanding Ava's and Teresa's idea and not hating them but disagreeing to their methods.
man i literally love her- both in the books and the movie... the end made me so angry but it made sense ig. also LOOK at how bittersweet thomas looks when he sees her omg
I was mad at Teresa in the second book even though I knew she was putting on an act to satisfy WICKD's demands 😭 I felt bad for Thomas when he saw Teresa and Aris kiss in the book
Me too. I feel really bad when everyone hates her. She isn't bad and anyway she saved him in the end and died instead. This shows she loved him. Maybe she made the wrong choice but her intention was to only make things right.
@@sairainbow2829 😐um you known that she felt she deserved to die right!? She put so many lives in danger.. She could have done it a different way but she didnt
At least they kissed🤷🏿, but after thomas woke up at the end of the movie I was heartbroken to see his face as he looked out to the ocean. Remembering teresa and All that he did to get to her and lost her in the same moment....I could tell that look was going to be permanent😢
@@Earth_Angel561 thats good.. She betrayed him and was gonna kill him to save everyone (she was gonna murder him in cold blood) i aint surprised if it was all an act to get thomas guard down... Even gal saw her bullshit.. Thats why she does that baby voice to thomas so that he can defend her😅 pathetic right?
I think this moment of reunion was a very powerfull scene !!! loved the acting! big thumbs up,..and Oh Thomas and Teresa where so freaking cute untill,...you know the ending the movie,...SAD
I love her so much i cant discribe this in words. Its like Gally said: Nobody is perfect, thomas is not perfect, newt too and teresa too. But she loves him so much and everybody can see that is was very hard for her to work for WCKD but nobody will get the burden on her shoulders, she was the only one who get her memorys back and she wants to help people dying. When you love newt and read the kill order you understand how terrible this virus is
Everyone should really read the first prequel book in The Maze Runner series that name is “The kill order”. That will make you understand why Teresa do all of this. All the people she love or care for her were ALL dead because of this pandemic disease. They were sacrificed themselves to make her alive. She carries a terrible PAIN and a great responsibility. She done all of this not only because of the sake of this world but also for all the pp she love . She’s the chosen one ( like the book said) READ the book. It will make you understand A LOTS of things about this series.
This scene for Me in the movie is powerful for one reason. the end of the movie, Thomas is told that they all followed Him and here we have an example of Teresa not letting go of who She is and Thomas for that matter. And music choice too: Spots Thomas = high note. Cuts to Her in awe goes deeper Until He fades away in the crowd and as soon as she follows the tone picks up again.
At the end of the movie, i saw how he crave her name in the rock, meaning i guess he did realize she was right. Also the cure Thomas is holding means Teresa was the only person who could make a cure😢. Although i wish Newt would be alive
After reading The Fever Code, these movies and just the entire book series in general makes me so much sadder every time I think about it. Everything the Fever Code did for the characters makes you so much more depressed when you see them alive again. Especially after you read the main three books and the Kill Order.
I like the duality of her and Thomas character. You can argue that they both are in the wrong with how Thomas Picked his loved ones over the world and how Teresa chose to sacrifice it for a better tomorrow.
@@legacyrxt7570 she is supposed to be understood! Everyone can have their opinions and that’s all good, but she ain’t a villain and she ain’t an bad person. She had the right intentions, chosen the hard way but still a good character at the end.
I think the maze runner movies were superrrr good. I literally cried like 8 times in the last movie( death cure ) bc it was sooooo good but also really sad. I also have a crush on minho and Thomas, and even though Teresa was bad, in the very end she tried to help Thomas, so I was also sad when she died. they could have been a good couple.
Maze Runner Series. By James Dashner (his own masterpiece and baby.) Maze Runner Movies Series By Wes Ball (his own masterpiece and baby.) That is all.
Something about the way they filmed the part where he said “Good” is awesome to me, they did a great job of capturing the tension in that moment, Teresa’s look of pure confusion followed by emotionless face of Thomas looking off to the side, idk that’s always been a great part to me.
My favorite characters are: 1. Thomas 2. Newt 3. Minho My least favorite characters are: 1. Gally (till the last movie) 2. Teresa 3. Jansen 4. Ava Paige My favorite dead characters are: 1. Chuck 2. Alby 3. Winston
My hc is that by the island, Thomas and gally both visit at midnight by the gravestone, each silent and in their own thoughts ignoring this other person. Over time they reveal their identities. Gally begs for forgiveness for chuck and wonders why Thomas was there. Thomas finally reveals to gally what happened with newt and slowly, they become close. When Thomas tells Minho, gally already knows so he’s able to check on the now unconscious body to give medical attention and to grab Minho off Thomas’s body because Minho would be extremely extremely angry at first, especially bc he has temper issues.
I haven’t watched the movie, is this meant to be placed after all the events or before the whole Thomas gets sent into the maze or like during the middle of all the events
it is yeah, but the coronavirus is a lot less contagious than the flare. As long as you just stay a couple of feet away from everyone and anyone who you think might have virus, you won't get it. However there are Cranks this situation who don't give a shit if you don't want the disease. They will try and eat you.
ngl i like teresa and thomas a lot. i used to hate her when she was younger but now i love her. she stood in what she thought was right and fought for that until the bitter end
Teresa did what she thought was right, I though she was wrong. I love her passion for Thomas , I mean in the end of the second movie I was literally hoping she wasn't imune... But then in the death cure she saved Thomas and I loved her. I wish she would of jumped into the bird in time. And their kiss bam she's gd
Bruh when I saw she entered a hall and then I thought Thomas was gonna be at the end of the hall with his hood on and megalovania would start playing I’ve been watching way too many undertale
I spent an entire day watching the 3 movies. I had just watched however long it was, seeing Thomas's face. But for the love of God, he looked completely different in this scene. I didn't recognize him beyond the fact that he looked important to the film. And that he was cute in a hood, which is odd. I don't tend to look at people that way :/
A RU-vidr named Trin Lovell reacted to this movie series and said that it would be a lot better if Thomas and Teresa were twins or siblings and I agree 100% btw I’m a small youtuber
Clover I looove trin. And it’s trueee. Because if they were siblings, her betrayal would be much more hard hitting. And would explain their connection and his almost obsession with her
Teresa is my girl! I don't understand why everyone hates them. She was just trying to save the world! She's been through so much! She even saw her mother scratch out her own eyes! As a child! Imagine that happened to you ! If you had the chance to save the world and do the right thing, would you do it? Yes or no? Sure she was wrong in the end, but at least she thought she was doing the right thing and had no bad intentions! Because of this, I just don't understand why everyone hates Teresa. But I also noticed that especially the people who just watched Maze Runner because of Dylan O'Brien hate Teresa. Most of them just don't like that they had an intimate relationship with Thomas. So please think about it before you say you hate a character!
I think everyone can have their opinion, whether it's hating or loving Teresa, but they should all accept each other equally. I just don't like that most of the Teresa fans don't like Newt that much only because they are annoyed that he's the fandom's favourite. I mean, Teresa had an awful past, but so did he. Teresa was suffering mentally, but Newt was suffering mentally AND physically because he was the ONLY one along the gladers who did know how it feels like to have the flare (along with Winston, but he died too early). He knew exactly what it is like to be infected, Teresa couldn't. And still some people try to tell me Teresa was the only one who cared and suffered the most. Newt suffered at least as much as her because he could even feel the disease. He just was different, had a different character and only wanted his friends to stay safe because he didn't saw a solution for all this suffering. Teresa saw one, but we also see it was a wrong way. What I want to say, I just want Teresa lovers who dislike Newt thinking about it as well. It's not his fault he's everyone's favourite (besides, he deserves this amount of love) but saying Teresa is better or Newt is better and not accepting anything else isn't right. I do prefer Newt but I also have big respect to Teresa. I just don't love her as much as others. I'm just tired of some Teresa fans behaving like that. Not saying you're one but I barely found a Teresa fan loving Newt the same.
I dont understand why people hate her. she "betrayed" Thomas in Thomas' point of view but she did it because she wanted to save people (well she is a scientist or whatever). You can literally see that she still loves him and the gladers. she did what she think was right. well yes i get it she kinda killed everyone in the scorch trials but it was not her intention to kill the people there. she wanted to save the world and her friends. 1:58 explains everything. I do understand why a lot of people hate her tho. She was my favorite along with Thomas :(
winterrrblue lol you are so stupid and naive. She knew very well that WICKED was going to torture and kill her friends. She wanted to save people by killing and torturing innocent people. That’s just cruel in every way possible. She was stupid who actually thought that the right arm was just going to let WICKED take them, torture and kill them.
