That version is slightly different from the "Commercial Breakup" we all know- so smooth, and yet so dazzling... I'm always impressed to see how well TD's voice has aged. "Commercial Breakup" is a song which set up pretty high vocal standards when it first came out-I've always thought singing it properly was a tour de force. Not only does he master it now, but he puts a whole world of different harmonies into the pattern. Definitely a riveting performance. Thanks for sharing it!

There were two samples in the solo area. One was Bob Barker saying, "The first item up for bid on the Price is Right is a telephone!" and the second is a man's voice saying, "[SOMETHING}, Wake up!" I have always wondered what that second sample was. It's been bugging me for forty years, because the man's voice sounds exactly like my father.
Enjoyed that. I used to absolutely love the album this is from - still do. In the 80s played a cassette copy of it in my car constantly. During that time I also sang & played this particular song during fun jam get togethers with friends (me playing bass guitar and singing). Of course back then you couldn't look up lyrics on the internet, so my friends and I carefully listened to the words over and over. When Thomas gets to that "2-D beckons" part we never could figure out what in the world he was saying, ha.
I can say without arrogance that my live performance of this song is more energetic, lively, and sonically diverse by a fair margin. Dolby is no doubt phoning it in and has been for decades.
