Havent seen Tom at work since 1981, when we were both in school for art. Best wishes Tom from Eric Eakes.

I like just hearing you talk. Makes a lot of sense. I'm just saying just about all your tips, not needing peoples' approval, not comparing yourself with other artists, even holding the pen loose. Very cool. Old video but new to me.

I saw this video and was really taken by it. Love the loose authenticity of this drawing. I have been slacking on drawing for the last 18 months after taking an expensive art class locally and learning nothing. I got frustrated and quit. I decided to check out Schoolism and signed up for your Fundamentals of Drawing class. I am so in love with it. I hate art fundamentals (so damn boring, shading a ball for an eternity) but I knew I needed a refresher course in a bad way. Two things that sets this class apart from others- 1) I have never, over the span of 25 years and in 3 countries, taken an art class where the instructor drew anything. 2) It started off by throwing you into the deep end of the pool. Here are the basic shapes. Ok now draw this giraffe. Really fun, not at all boring. Definitely not your grandma's art class. I would recommend it to anyone. Please do more of them!

moonshadowe I think fundamentals are something you return to when you have more context for how they can take your drawings to a new place. I agree that starting with fundamentals is a flawed, tragically common approach to teaching. Humans have trouble problem solving in total abstraction, we need the context to activate our thinking and interest. Even though learning abstraction is what ultimately will make us more flexible.

U my friend are a badass. Love the loose style and the ‘care-free’ approach. Attitude & confidence can make or break an artist. Cheers!

What is amazing for me , as for professional artist , that selective start - without any initial outlines or shapes , he starts from the eye out ..it’s a fantastic technique, very inspiring ! I’m taking classes on schoolism - it’s a hands down the BEST source of creative teaching philosophy ...I’m in LOVE !

This is great. You could just share the model picture before you started as you refer to the model quite a lot but we do not see it. This gave me a boost to try ink/pen drawings! Thanks a lot!!:)

As someone who is currently in there sophomore year at an Art college I can say with certainty that when it comes to drawing do not be afraid of making mistakes because they can actually make the piece better than your original idea. also sorry about spelling I am somewhat dyslexic.

Would have been nice to see a bit of cross hatching for shading or any other techniques. This is nice but not something you'd look over twice.
