The mid year toy sales often have cheap toys. BigW does one of the best toy sales. There were only two Thomas & Friends toys on special and I was after the Thomas Trackmaster Push Along Sodor Steamies 10 pack. But finding this Thomas toy was not a simple task. The first store I went to had NIL stock and staff suggested I purchase the toy online. It may be caught up in the 'virus times' delayed shipping from China. Anyway I took a gamble and went to another store and was able to find a few Sodor Steamies 10 Packs. I also look for the illusive Thomas The Tank Hot Wheels which is very difficult to find. Many people were surprised I was not excited about the FACTORY ERROR Bluey toys. I do show that this upside down factory boxing error is very common in stores. Yet there will be some who will attempt to sell this online saying it's something rare and special so it's worth double the normal price. My advice on any of these styles of online sales is steer well clear of them. This style of factory error is very easy to make fake.

The weird thing is in China they don't see this problem at the factory. Maybe it's some sort of cryptic message they are sending out. Just like all the problems with the Thomas toys in packaging.

Good that you were able to find the Thomas 10 pack. Those are pretty common at Smyth toy stores. Much like you, I usually prefer to buy my Transformer figures in store as opposed to online as Hasbro's QC isn't always great and I'll probably be sent a figure with a very noticeable paint splat on it.

I see Mattel has far more attention to detail with Hot Wheels Vs Thomas. Seeing how extensive it was at the toy sale Vs Thomas spoke volumes to me. Not even a Trackmaster Powered set available in the toy sale. It's like toy trains don't exist now.

Target has a new Trackmaster Push-Alongs 10 pack for the 75th Anniversary with some engines in 'party' print-but it was $49 so I left it on the shelf. I've found stuff at Kmart, they must have got new stock (Minis 2020, lots of Diamond Thomas (got a second one for later hehe), and the Metallic Trackmaster engines), but Big W is a mess at the Toy Sale time... although I've seen that Big W has the 2020 Minis too! There you go. They're finally going back to Sodor, the new stuff for Trackmaster is very Sodor-esc, but Thomas distribution these days is garbage (even my partner's Nan, who came with me to try and find 2020 Minis, was lamenting the lack of Thomas in stores...) You with the Hot Wheels is me with the Minis, trying to work out the bag codes !!!!! Man that collection is so lovely!

I had someone send links related to the new Trackmaster 'Powered' and saw some of the sets. Yep looks like Mattel have worked out Thomas train playsets need to be like Sodor Island railways and not rollercoasters or weird adventures into far off wayward lands with flash in the pan one film or TV episode friends. The Thomas fandom have watched Mattel make so many mistakes with the brand's toys, it's been like watching a train wreck since 2014. Difficult to look away at what's gone on. Hopefully Thomas will get back on track. The series needs to stick to Sodor Island and tap into the vibe of the earlier stories where the engines had difficult relationships and the constant threat of those pesky Diesel's doing their jobs.

My theory on why Thomas isn’t doing so well these days is that I don’t see enough of the older engines on the shelves and pegs. I always see the international engines that only appear in one or two episodes. Those characters don’t really stick with children and they aren’t as memorable as engines from the earlier days of Thomas.

Yep, the move to CGI with the TV series seems to have had a huge effect. The removal of edgy characters and now everyone is happy is another huge mistake. Look what happened to Bob The Builder once it's DNA was fiddled with.

leokimvideo on Twitter this one guy had what looked like a very interesting vintage wooden railway factory error, but then found out a seller just mashed different parts from different items together and called it a factory error. We should have known it was fake, they rarely never made mistakes back in the good old days, which is why factory errors from that era are so hard to come by.

I actually have a old take n play Thomas the whistle is the old “model” which is yellow and better looking, but.. here’s the catch it’s a metallic shiny blue . It’s a bit damaged but other that a bit of colour of and 2 wheels colour coming of a little it’s in good condition

Very interesting video on the state of toys in shops and on the Thomas franchise. It’s unfortunate how far the toys have drifted. Just comparing the quality of current Trackmaster 2 toys to the old blue track TOMY is proof enough. On eBay people tend to flog these old toys up for much more than they’re worth. I never see the Thomas & Friends toys in stores, I live in Canada. It seems as though the future is online shopping. Hope you’re well and we will get through the “virus times”.

I actually had that Thomas "what can you see" book when I was younger. My copy was called the "Thomas & Friends look and find" book or something and said it was released in 2007 with all the same illustrations as the one you saw. Weird huh?

I should have looked at the reprinting dates inside. But one thing I notice is the books tend to stick to the old Thomas format. This has me curious to work out why.

Maybe it’s because the illustrators or Mattel were too lazy to make new books so they just rebrand older books with different names and covers. They probably think toddlers who are into the T&F range these days won’t recognize the older carbon-copy’s of the same book with a different name & publish date.

It is a PAIN to try to find thomas stock in my stores. The thomas section in my target is getting smaller and smaller. Still haven't found a diamond thomas or the hotwheels one. I think that the decline of thomas has a major role in this. Have you heard about the latest season of thomas not being green lite yet? I believe its mostly because of the virus, but i also think its because of the decline of the show.

Interesting toy hunt Leo, You always have difficulties in Australia don't you. Have you ever considered looking at the Diapet Thomas range? They are beautiful models and I bet you would like them. You can get them online easily enough, although I know you don't really like buying online.

Hey Leo you have a decent thomas section for stores... my Walmart only has 4 toys in the thomas section... been like that for a while... like 4 to 5 years just gotten smaller over time... HEY WALMART MATTEL HAVING VERY FEW TOYS DOESN'T MAKE YA MONEY seriously its ridiculous that they don't even out the sections for the toy brands

I was at the store the day before the sale, I could see everything set out BUT no Thomas 10 pack. To then not find it on the day of the sale was in reality no surprise. The shipping to Australia is really bad because of the virus. KMart is looking like a bone yard of empty shelves. No one can explain to me exactly what's causing this NIL stock situation.

Same here in Ionia! My local Walmart has loads of the same Sodor Steamies pack in the Thomas & Friends section at the back of the store and my local Meijer store has none in stock! I still have to check the back of the store for Thomas & Friends Motorized in stock because Walmart where I live doesn’t have any items in the rebrand!

I have a Tomy Lady but sadly I do not have the take along one . Also what are your favorite Thomas characters. My favorite Characters are Oliver, Thomas, Henry, Duck, and Lady. The reason I think he merch has slowed down is the Thomas and friends franshise might be dying soon, I think his because the last new episide aired on t.v was back in October 2019 , the channel that airs Thomas and friends originally sold Thomas and friends to nick Jr and then nick sold thomas and friends to netflix where netflix is doing nothing with him and it might also be that the newer kids shows overshadow him now you know shows like bubble guppies, max and ruby, blaze and the monster machines, nature cat and paw partol.
