@@MrCaliforniabound glad he’s finally being recognized like he belongs. Still absolutely no shade on Thomas though. Cream of the crop from his drumming generation
Thomas Lang is one of the cleanest sounding drummer of all time... Every single stroke sounds very clean and with he's speed and tecnical power a hero on this drum-planet ❤️
Wow! You play those 9 and 7 stroke rolls so impeccably clean and tasteful that they actually become a *pure joy* to listen to !!! I don't know if I have ever _enjoyed_ listening to anyone playing "exercises" before... 😃
Chief-Overlord on Drums!
It's amazing how easy you do some super nice fills like as you drinking water or walking. Also the tuning of your kits always are excellent. It's so funny when you show something as example and the most learners spend years to reach these levels!!
i bought a set of these back in the mid 90's after watching mike mangini live with extreme. the next day, i was at an unnamed box store ordering a full set. one of the best purchases ever, as i play them on gigs almost every week. nobody expects that size of a kit to emerge from my clown car, lol. anyway, i'm glad i got them then cause they're no longer available, and cost 5 times what i payed for them on the market now. thanks for the amazing video as always, Thomas. you're the man
@@georgecostanza7777 super good to know. thank you!! i actually found a guy locally who has a full rack of them he's looking to sell, so i may be in luck ;-)
WHAT SOUND AND RHYTHM???? WHAT VIDEO WERE YOU WATCHING? THERE WAS NO RHYTHMS HERE!! ALL THOSE ROLLS SOUNDED STERILE, LIFELESS AND COMPLETELY UNMUSICAL! THE ARTIFICIAL MUSIC FROM MY PHONE SOUNDS MORE MUSICAL THAN ANY OF THIS.. WAKE UP!
You've gotta love the difference Roto Toms and and Concert Toms have from double-headed toms. I always loved the sound of Concert Toms in outdoor venues.
Well done Thomas, you are a drum machine, and one of the most disciplined and well-worked drummers, I really admire the comfort and discipline in your playing, good luck in your huge work!!!!!
My Thomas Lang drumsticks by Vic Firth arrived today. I've always used 2b drumsticks but was looking for something with a little more weight and thicker. These sticks delivered!! I use the butt end of the stick with my left hand and and the tip end with my right hand. I have finally found the drum sticks that suit my style of playing. Thomas Lang , love your drumming!!!
It always amazes me how clean and accurate you are with these rolls. You should also do either a 13 stroke roll starting with the small toms but in the 3rd tom go to the Snare instead like Bozzio always did. I love playing that roll.
@@aquafishes That whole process was simply to advertise the band as TL says. They knew which drummer they wanted the whole time. But don't blame the band it was more the label and managers idea.
I thought that audition process was very arrogant.... To get 4 or 5 of the worlds best drummers in to turn them down, I didn't see the point, apart obviously to gain more exposure for the band..... They should of had Thomas in my humble opinion..... I saw an interview with Mangini after he got in DT and he just cut the guy off , sorry gotta go .....
@@aquafishes Thomas is better than Mike Portnoy and Mike Mangini, in terms of drums. He mustn't have fit in with them for other reasons. Even Portnoy said Lang is better than him.
As a percussion major, I played Tympani a lot in college. I really like this set up to be able to play actual melodic phrases with the music. You could even take a lead for a few phrases. Very cool. As in “time”. But you really need to tune them accurately so they really fit.
I saw INXS on their 1st US tour (1983) and the drummer had all rototoms: 8/10/12/14/16/18 and a kick drum. They sounded incredible. They played a tiny bar on the Landing, Mississippi Nights (don’t look for it, it’s long gone), downtown St Louis. Great night, great show, great drums.
I’ve got rotos and use them now and again, but I ended up going with the Inxs concert tom set up from the early 90s which also sound sweet. Jons kit always sounded great live
