I see you practicing those blasts. Derek Roddy really left his mark. It's good to see accomplished players still seeking advancement. It's encouraging as hell.
Never thought I'd see the day Thomas Pridgen uses double bass... D: But hearing him play blast beats, I think it'd be really cool to hear him play in some death metal haha
@hom3r0824 I hear what sounds like a double bass - but when the camera panned to his pedal there's only 1!! It looked like he was using "heel/toe" technique..
@hom3r0824 or he just started using double bass pedal and he's just practicing with/getting used to it (Even though he still sounds flawless in this video)... Still an amazing drummer regardless.
His ghost notes are completely insane!! Hand speed and technique for days..... Between that and his ridiculously fast foot, there's no need for a double pedal..
i dont think its double pedal and he really got to work on those unison blasts after meeting up with derek roddy during the presentation of the DW Performance serie video clip
I actually think they're 18"s, and something off the Z line. It's got strange hammering, though. Different from the spiral hammering on most Z's. Huge hihats, though. Dang...
keep pushing that metal tool for the box..work your quads - 2 on the hand 2 on the feet for however long you can at a time as fast a u can build it up, the rest will come together i promise
@hom3r0824 The Great Way is not difficult for those who have no preferences. When love and hate are both absent everything becomes clear and undisguised. Make the smallest distinction, however, and heaven and earth are set infinitely apart. If you wish to see the truth then hold no opinions for or against anything. To set up what you like against what you dislike is the disease of the mind." -Hsin Hsin Ming
@hom3r0824 he was still on his backbeat but kick was sixteenth for while then he switch to group 5 notes and 7 notes in a beat. That is call polyrhythm, bro. you should learn more about music and dont judge other peoples random like that.
@funkeemon I should learn more about music while your defining the definition of groove with numbers and rhythmic notation ..... Groove is defined by feeling and danceability. My comment is based on Pridgens ability to make these crazy rhythms groove in bands like the Memorials and Mars. But I personally stop feeling that groove when a double bass is used to go beyond the speed of a single bass. I think its because the beat loses its a definition within the music for me.
Runs of 32nds and 16ths haven't given double bass a bad name, it's the idiot drummers who make a feeble attempt at playing those simple patterns that have given it a bad name.
