Mr Sowell is truly a wise and humble man. I think true humility is so rare in our day and is so desperately needed. As he shows, there's nothing wrong with realizing an unhealthy direction one is going in, and simply making the change for the better. Whenever I hear American intellectuals talk about "race", "racism" and "slavery" it baffles me how notwithstanding all the higher learning institutions that exist in the US nearly all American intellectuals are so incompetent regarding semantics and word play...Fact: slavery was present in every continent at some point or another...Fact: slavery was NEVER uniform throughout history or throughout the evolution of a particular society (as it happened in Rome)...Fact: slavery was and is always about labor exploitation...Period...So, when talking about "slavery" we MUST take into account that even if an "employer" DOES NOT own a human being who is "working" for him of her in the same manner you would own a horse, if you are exploiting their labor capacity under conditions that prevent that worker and his or her family from being able to take advantage of the fruits of their labor in order to improve their relational, intellectual and material conditions, what you have as a matter of FACT is a system of generational exploitation that perpetuates itself unless there is an intervention aimed at altering the nature of the relationship between "employer" and "worker"...This is true REGARDLESS of phenotype and is the basis for the creation of the concept of "wage slavery"...That this is a FACT can be easily ascertained with a superficial glance at the birth and evolution of labor laws...Thomas Sowell uses data about Americans of African and European descent as if that data can be easily divorced from the non-material (relational, intellectual) conditions and being in the world of those groups...J.D. Vances' bio is a perfect example of this...Thomas Sowell's shortcoming is this: He has never sat down to read "Their eyes were watching God" or "Black Boy" of "Another Country" and if he did he did it too late in life, meaning after 26, in which case it CANNOT have the same humanizing effect...A human being who is not given great literature in his formative years is bound to become the sort of heartless charlatan that Thomas Sowell has been throughout his life, which is why he has never been able to reach beyond the confines of the bubble of Americans of European descent who seek to justify the perpetuation of exploitation of Americans of African descent even if said exploitation manifest itself not exclusively as labor exploitation but as consumer of processed foods, of legal and illegal drugs, of mass incarceration, etc...This is called willful ignorance...If we want to know why Americans of African descent, or Haitians of African descent, of Brazilians of African descent or Dominicans of African descent live the lives of open and vociferous desperation that they live all we need to do is look into the narratives penned by those in the ARENA...in the Dominican Republic we say that "El corazon de la auyama solo lo conoce el cuchillo"...Bill Burr, in one of his stand ups gives a perfect exmaple of this Dominican saying when he says that perhaps he's not the ideal candidate to explain what it feels like during the third trimester of pregnancy... 🔥🏴‍☠🔥
