Straight talk! Gotta love Sowell and his brutally objective sincerity and honesty. I’m completely blown away and amazed by the ease, the humility, and the equity through which he dispels many of the boogie men of social injustices, the bells and whistles and the smoke and mirrors of victimization and self-victimization and brings such clarity and simplicity to an issue through the aid of the truth of facts without oversimplifying matters. Both initially and ultimately, it seems that it simply comes down to not getting out of a thing more than you put into it. In spite of all odds you reap what you sow, from what I gather. It's been said many times before but I’ll risk being ridiculed and say it again, Thomas Sowell is an American treasure! We need more Thomas Sowell’s.

Because the government can’t operate without a crisis, and regardless of the beautiful solutions they come up with and implement and the horrible results that they usually cause, they still choose to ignore the possibility that the policies put in place aren’t working, and continue to presume they need more funding, more tweaking, which just leads to more government overhead, more spending, and a bigger and more invasive government on the individual. If we were to stop looking at things that have mostly been improving for decades as if they’re crisis, then big government would cease to expand, and begin to recede.

No he’s not. His argument about affirmative action is flawed. He fails to mention that before affirmative action no black people were being hired, not even the over qualified. The fact that poor blacks are still not being hired post affirmative action has more to do with white supremacy than it does affirmative action.

The first 10 minutes of this interview bunch of points I don't agree with. I agree partially culture is important in cultivating better economic behaviors to elevate but to compare recent immigrants who came to this country without the same legacies that native black people have been here generationally who has been enslaved, Jim crow, excluded out of economic opportunities for loans or capital to invest to then use that proper comparison for recent immigrants who came to this country Secondly the affirmative action has been largely beneficial to white women and people of color not black people. I'll watch the rest later but some of his talking points I don't agree

Slavery ended in 1865. Blacks who are here are not enslaved. Moreover, as he indicated then (and similarly in more recent book publications-see T. Sowell, W. Williams, J. Riley and others) blacks who remain in school and pursue the pattern of work that other groups have enjoy the same success and so too black immigrants. However, those blacks (sometimes through no fault of their own) who are trapped in cycles of welfare/broken families/rotten public schools have fallen further and further behind. The devil is not racism, it is bad government policies that encourage dependencies. There is no "system" of racism. Sure there are individuals like this. But they are morons and people need to simply go around them. Just as Jews, Chinese, Japanese, Irish and innumerable others have overcome these pockets of idiots and barriers so too blacks have and can!
