"I can't think of a single group anywhere in the world that has risen from poverty to affluence THROUGH POLITICS" - This man is such a treasure! thank you for posting this.
@@joemarshall4226 They worked extremely hard to get economic wealth and organized well. That gave them power and then labor unions respected them. Political power came after economic power.
@@dr.woozie7500Dr Sowell said that the Irish were the one group that has been very successful without entrepreneurship. They work hard and they organized well, you are right. Very successful in union jobs. cops, firemen, teachers, military, etc.
@@joemarshall4226But regardless of whatever you're talking about, 100% of the time government is parasitic to the citizens and it never creates wealth. Anything the government does is take, and many actions they do to appear virtuous but really they're finding sneaky ways to take more
Straight talk! Gotta love Sowell and his brutally objective sincerity and honesty. I’m completely blown away and amazed by the ease, the humility, and the equity through which he dispels many of the boogie men of social injustices, the bells and whistles and the smoke and mirrors of victimization and self-victimization and brings such clarity and simplicity to an issue through the aid of the truth of facts without oversimplifying matters. Both initially and ultimately, it seems that it simply comes down to not getting out of a thing more than you put into it. In spite of all odds you reap what you sow, from what I gather. It's been said many times before but I’ll risk being ridiculed and say it again, Thomas Sowell is an American treasure! We need more Thomas Sowell’s.
Black muscles r white man strength , the way black man have been subject of subjugation , inheriting poor family institution only white but by other immigrants ,they can't forget their dark history which make them depressed, don't forget black malnourished still bring more golden medals to America, does that mean they more healthy
Because the government can’t operate without a crisis, and regardless of the beautiful solutions they come up with and implement and the horrible results that they usually cause, they still choose to ignore the possibility that the policies put in place aren’t working, and continue to presume they need more funding, more tweaking, which just leads to more government overhead, more spending, and a bigger and more invasive government on the individual. If we were to stop looking at things that have mostly been improving for decades as if they’re crisis, then big government would cease to expand, and begin to recede.
Mr. Sowell is STILL amazing even in his early 90’s! What a natural treasure…….let the data guide your decisions, not the other way around. I will never get tired of listening to his videos,
No he’s not. His argument about affirmative action is flawed. He fails to mention that before affirmative action no black people were being hired, not even the over qualified. The fact that poor blacks are still not being hired post affirmative action has more to do with white supremacy than it does affirmative action.
NPC #34781263 What the hell is that supposed to mean? Why don’t you just come out and say what you mean to say instead of hiding behind some silly retort.
I'm black and I went to ask people like me about Thomas Sowell and I was surprised to see that they considered Thomas Sowell as a sellout Wow!!! I however STRONGLY DISAGREE
@@mandoarevee7578 i'm hispanic and that is true .. ive known people who will have another kid just to keep the welfare checks and food stamps coming. 🤦🏽♀️
He has a white wife. No matter how good he sounds. It’s impossible😊 for a non hate person to be honest about race that is in a sexual relationship with a white person.
After reading Dr. Thomas Sowell's books I had to look in the mirror and take responsibility. I failed because I didn't care & smoked weed. Nobody's fault but mine.
I just got one with his quote “Intellect is not Wisdom” and I love it. I hope more people start listening to Sowell because his no nonsense takes are insightful and refreshing, especially in this day and age where empiricism is often dismissed.
Always love Sowell, however I forgot how good of an interviewer Tony Brown was. I used to love his show. His always had a great variety of views represented. Now all of the black "news" or opinion shows are hosted by high-profile court-jesters (comedians) who pride themselves on their ignorance and vulgarity.
What a great man: intellectually honest human ( love how he has kept his ' brornx ' accent ) cheeky, dry sense of humour no chip on shoulder, no ' racism ' bullshit coins the phrase ' Group Hostility ' to replace the vacuous ' racism ' ' There are no soloutions: just trade orrfs '
TS is the example of the result of hardwork and of being an overachiever. Wish he had been elected president even never had being on any ballot. The man the country needs!
Sowell’s simply great! Back again! How reinvigorating, comforting, and refreshing it is from time to time to return to sanity and, in a word, good ‘ole plain common sense after being heavily bombarded on almost every side and swamped in by the sheer and uncompromising insanity to be found in media and the world at large.
In this 1984 episode of Tony Brown's Journal, host and executive producer Tony Brown interviews author Dr. Thomas Sowell, who talks about his book "Economics and Politics of Race".👍
The sweet thing about it is Dr. Sowell never dismisses or ignores the historical systematic racial discrimination against black peopkle in America, you're just not really listening to much of anything he's said!
@7:35 that statement and response and laughter. If all of Americans could be that light hearted, we would all be much further in our journey to a utopian society.
I’m an adopted and in my late in life I come to understanding that just how many immigrants work in the workforce, astonishing rates of none speaking workers exist.
The first 10 minutes of this interview bunch of points I don't agree with. I agree partially culture is important in cultivating better economic behaviors to elevate but to compare recent immigrants who came to this country without the same legacies that native black people have been here generationally who has been enslaved, Jim crow, excluded out of economic opportunities for loans or capital to invest to then use that proper comparison for recent immigrants who came to this country Secondly the affirmative action has been largely beneficial to white women and people of color not black people. I'll watch the rest later but some of his talking points I don't agree
Slavery ended in 1865. Blacks who are here are not enslaved. Moreover, as he indicated then (and similarly in more recent book publications-see T. Sowell, W. Williams, J. Riley and others) blacks who remain in school and pursue the pattern of work that other groups have enjoy the same success and so too black immigrants. However, those blacks (sometimes through no fault of their own) who are trapped in cycles of welfare/broken families/rotten public schools have fallen further and further behind. The devil is not racism, it is bad government policies that encourage dependencies. There is no "system" of racism. Sure there are individuals like this. But they are morons and people need to simply go around them. Just as Jews, Chinese, Japanese, Irish and innumerable others have overcome these pockets of idiots and barriers so too blacks have and can!
Thats the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard white people sole whole countries. Negro they stole you!! They have generational wealth. Everyone is born into poverty my ass. This guy has a white wife. He sounds good, but he cannot be trusted.
It's much more complex than most people are aware of, there are many different variables, just fascinating to think about. 24:55, don't expect the political system transform you culture into what you desire, that's your responsibility.
Can you upload the full episode of Austin City Limits from Season 9 on PBS in 1984? This episode features an hour-long performance by Jimmy Buffett & The Coral Reefer Band.👍
