Any chance you guys will do a model by model review of the sextant? Interested in a couple of the different weights but can't find much info on any of them.
Thanks for the review, Ben. I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder…😊 I haven’t seen one up close and personal but from this video, I don’t think it’s pretty. The grayish blue blank color and those wraps with the sky blue accents, is just not my cup of tea. I might have a different opinion once I look at it up close. This rod reminds me of the grayish blue NRXs. Luckily for me, Loomis made the NRX and NRX LP in a dark green as well, which I think is really nice.
I just tried the SEXTANT for the first time yesterday, compared it against the Sage R8. I found them pretty equal, but I thought the SEXTANT was better balanced, and much lighter in the butt section compared to the R8. The TnT felt really good to me. I'm a biggg fan of the NRX, but haven't yet had a chance to compare the ( + ), vs either.
I have the Exocett in 6 &9. I find the review interesting in that the sextant seems to share the only slight weakness you identified in the Exocett, which was not quite having quite the punch of some rods at 80’, but also introduced several weaknesses that were mentioned as strengths in the Exocett: Delicacy at 40’ and swing weight. Is it better at anything? Or did they just change for change sake and mess up a great rod?
Ben definitely likes T&T rods and perhaps didn’t feel comfortable giving this rod a bad review. He didn’t sound super enthusiastic about it and perhaps a bit disappointed. I’ll wait for the Asquith to be back in stock; I’ve heard it kicks Asquith. 😉
I'm sorry but thomas & thomas is the only brand who can pretend cost 1000$ Best craftsmanship, you can compare with Winston at 1200$ bad quality of craftsmanship, exactly same for sage, and orvis really chip before the helios 3 use only hard crome guide for 1000$... Scott is good brand like thomas & thomas but I prefer t&t
