There is a factor bringing Thomas to the US that many British fans seem to overlook: DIFFERENT BROADCASTING STANDARDS. If a whole sitcom is needed to he created to get Sodor onto us and then Canadian television's via PBS, then so be it

Sprout was actually where I was first introduced to Season 4 between 2008-2011. Prior to Sprout, I had never seen those iconic Narrow Gauge episodes we all adore. Most of my home media at that point was, oddly enough, only focused on seasons 1-3, 5-8. Watching Sprout was like entering a new world at that point.

Before child me found out about PBS Kids, Sprout was my go-to whenever I wanted to watch stuff on tv. I remember watching several classic, hit and nitrogen Thomas episodes live, and I even remember watching a clip from Gordon And The Engineer on their website! I remember watching Berenstain Bears on there a hell of a lot more, though, and I don’t really blame myself since it’s honestly as equally a good kids show as Thomas, and *oh my god why did they need to go so hard on the score -*

Sprout is truly a haven for British children’s shows airing in America (Especially the ones made by HiT Entertainment or Chapman Studios). Besides Thomas, there’s also Pingu, Fireman Sam, Bob The Builder, Fifi & The Flowertots, Roary The Racing Car, and yeah, even Clangers. The only show that I wish made it on there is Postman Pat.

The memories of watching Thomas on Cable TV are always the pieces of nostalgia memories we can ever have, and while I understand that now we're entering the video streaming era so that everyone can watch their favorite shows of their own opinion or choice, those memories will never be forgotten. And we do have The Thomas TV Patrol and other recordings that we never saw in childhood that are resurfaced here for our viewing pleasures.

From all the flack HiT Entertainment has been getting, even back then. I think they had a great intention on getting Thomas back on American television after nearly two to three years of new episodes only coming out on home video (at least that was in the case of Season 6 and some of Season 7 during this time period; 2002-2004). Sure, sales on VHS and DVD would still keep on growing because of the high quality merchandise and (of course) DVD and VHS sales going at an all time high, but it makes you wonder how Season 6 remained to be released only on home video in the US until 2005 when only six episodes of Season 6 were re-narrated for PBS and Nick Jr. by then US and UK narrators at the time, Michael Angelis and Michael Brandon. Had it not been for them, would the show have ended there at Season 7, even with Michael Brandon as the narrator and Mike O'Donnell and Junior Campbell as the remaining composers?

A fine piece of work Dennis. I really enjoyed all the cut scenes to the Random shows Thomas appeared on. And this video had shows that I never even knew about or new Thomas aired on. I only grew up with most of sprout and late PBS. This was mainly due to the fact that I mainly watched the episodes on DVD and later RU-vid in 2012. Although I still collected US DVDs until the end. Anyway great job Dennis! I enjoyed every second.😉

I will admit, I also had some really fond memories of seeing episodes of Thomas & Friends on television when I was a kid as well. The only shows I never got the chance to watch were Shining Time Station and Storytime With Thomas (I wasn't around yet when those shows were airing in the 90s at the time). However, I distinctly remember watching at least a few episodes from Series 6 and 7 when they aired on PBS back in the early 2000s (I was only 3 or 4 at the time), and seeing some of the newer episodes from the HIT Entertainment era on the same channel. I also remember watching episodes from the classic era of the show on Sprout when I was like, 9 or 10, and that was when I started really getting into Thomas after I discovered RU-vid and saw uploads of the classic series. I also remember being introduced to the Nitrogen Studios era of the show from watching Hero Of The Rails and a few episodes of Series 13. Up until that point, I would only watch episodes of the show on either VHS or DVD. And after Series 16 had ended, I never really followed up on the new seasons that followed (like Series 17-24). And of course, I also have genuine distaste for All Engines Go like pretty much every other Thomas fan out there. However, I will give praise to AEG on just a few things: two of the characters, which are Kana and Sandy (I'm not counting Carly since she's a gantry crane in the actual T&F series, and AEG just turned her into a crane engine like Harvey), and Gordon's voice actor, Neil Crone. But anyway, everything that this video talked about is almost 100% relatable to me, and I'm very happy to have embarked on a nostalgic journey with everyone's favorite number one blue tank engine back then, and I will continue to revel in the nostalgia.

Cartoon Network is really fixing the issues that plagued Nick Jr. With all of Cartoonito's scheduling shifts, All Engines Go is one of the only shows to remain in its original hour timeslot, while other shows keep getting downgraded to smaller slots. If only the show itself was better.

Did you know in the 90’s during the release of Series 4-5, Thomas the tank engine and friends aired on Cartoon Network in the UK, and even released episodes from Series 1-3. Now having series 5 air on Cartoon Network is very bold since it fits perfectly on other shows being released such as Ed, Edd, N Eddy, The Powerpuff girls, Dexter’s laboratory, Johnny bravo, and Cow and Chicken. I’m surprised they didn’t do that in the US during the 90’s, but in the UK, that’s impressive.

Here's my history of Thomas on TV: I was born in 2007, and I watched PBS, so I briefly saw the late HiT Model Era, and the early Nitrogen Era. Shining Time Station was my go to show from my early days as a toddler until Kindergarten. Every time that I watched the show I always try to remember what Thomas stories were in each one. Ringo's narrations were the easy ones as they were in order of video releases. George Carlin's narrations were out of order as there are times were he's narrating one that Ringo already did a US dub, one were he had yet to do a US dub and a Series 3 dub. I also did enjoy collecting the videos growing up however there are times were there would be dubs that you could only watch on Shining Time Station or dubs that were only released on video.

Well researched video, but what I take most from this is seeing it from the perspective of another generation. I grew up with Shining Time Station on PBS. I didn't have cable so I only saw Storytime with Thomas once. So between my mom going back to work full-time and no longer being able to record STS when I was in school and Thomas' return to PBS in 2004, I fell out of the loop. When Thomas came back, I was appalled by what I saw. To me the show had been completely infantilized, yet this is fond childhood memories for you, like STS was for me. I thought the plots were dull, Michael Brandon was too monotone for me and the learning segments seemed to talk down to the children. My first memory of Sprout was putting up a poster for it at my local railroad museum for when we were hosting Thomas for two weekends. I didn't start paying attention until the Brennerssaince, which I also enjoyed. That being said while PBS still had inconveinent airtimes, I watched it on RU-vid at my conveinence. It's interesting that from here, our perspectives are almost the same. Though at this point I think we're both viewing it from the perspective of an older fan. It's interesting to see how people have different views of a show that ran for so long.

I usually watched in on VCDs in early 2010s,also saw the season 12 on Cartoon Network/Nickelodeon .Also Thomas jumped channels a lot in the Southeast Asia region .Had a great time watching the early seasons but fell off during the early CGI era .I remember those dumb but funny learning segments.I was surprised when Toby banked Gordon up the hill.Great and treasured memories👍🏻

What's interesting to note is that most of Thomas' run on Nickelodeon was shafted to Nick Jr.. The airings and new episodes became really sparse on the main channel, especially when BWBA rolled along. On another note I also read that Shining Time was cancelled because of the popularity of other PBS shows like Arthur eclipsing that of the former program.

10:44 FUN FACT: Starting from season 10-onwards on discovery kids. They started to cut scenes from episodes. Sometimes cutting the today on the island of sodor segment. Songs and learning segments. And from airing 34 navigation up until the last airings of season 13 they show the discovery networks logo. Thankfully season 8-9 aired on other spanish channels. And they were shown complete. Well obviously cutting the season 6-7 episodes they did the same thing with portuguese. In the international channels they would often cut halfway the credits. However season 10-11 remained in their DK masters but with the english titles when they aired them on international spanish channels 13:10. When season 11 aired on sprout. They instead put the season 8 intro and engine roll call. Discovery kids also did that when season 11 aired between 2008 up until 2011

I still have fond memories of having Thomas airing after Bob The Builder and Sesame Street on WETA Washington at 11PM daily. I like when PBS stations have Bob and Thomas paired up, even WETA.

PBS Sprout was where I watched Thomas CONSISTENTLY. We always had it as channel 295 on DirecTV, but that channel has gone the way of the dumpster nowadays imo. Actually, until Power Rangers Samurai came out, Sprout was the only channel I’d watch (unless I was watching Mythbusters or Dirty Jobs on the DVR).
