Thomas, West Virginia is everyone's hometown. Follow Brian Peddicord as he travels to Thomas to experience the rich culture and beauty of this historic community.
Thomas, Tucker County, West Virginia is located in the heart of the Allegheny Mountains. The town of Thomas has a story to tell. It's a story of immigration, industry, and community ... truly the American story. The first settler (Jacob C. Pase) arrived with his family in the fall of 1880 and within the following years more families came to settle in the forest. It was dramatically noted then that "Thomas was surrounded by a howling wilderness of pine and laurel, and wild beasts could be seen and killed from the very house doors" Thomas, West Virginia was listed on the National Register of Historic Place in 1998.

Being from the West Coast, I traveled and lived in seven States. When I found West Virginia, I found home! What a beautiful State ❤️ and beautiful people! Been here 21 years now. Politics can ruin a country but can't spoil the beauty of WV!!

I've lived nearby since the early 80's.I like how it's being fixed up. I love the old buildings and the new coffee shops too.

Brian, thank you for such a wonderful documentary showcasing Thomas! Hope you enjoyed your visit to the Mountain State, and were able to explore the surrounding area. I believe West Virginia is truly a hidden gem, and great videos like this help others find it. I am a photographer who lives in West Virginia. I never cease to be amazed by the amount of beauty found here, and am so blessed by it all. Thank you again for a wonderful job sharing my state!

Great video. I've been through Thomas many times and lived about 20 miles north of there. Makes me want to go back. Thanks for 5 minutes and 58 seconds of home.

Bill E My Father also grew up in Thomas. I make a point to return to the area every Memorial Day to put flowers on my Grandparents graves not far from Thomas. Had it not been for WW2, my Dad would probably never have left Thomas.

Thanks for the great video, Brian. I live in Orange County, CA now, but was born in WV. Be sure to make some time on your next trip back to visit my hometown of Fayetteville, WV. I think you'll enjoy it too. Lots of history and the beauty of the New River Gorge makes it a major draw for tourists from all around the country and other countries as well.

My daughter and son-in-law have a getaway home there -- stand in the parking lot of the Miners and Merchants Bank and look straight up the hill, and it's at the top. I missed Mountaineers Days last year, so your short film offers compensation. I'll be there this year, though!

What time of year do they have Mountain Days there in Thomas WV. ?

Mountaineer Days are celebrated right around July 4th. In 2017, that's June 30 to July 2. On Saturday, July 1, the parade starts at 10:30 a.m., Elvis performs in the parking lot at the Miners & Merchants Bank at 6:30 p.m., and the best fireworks show ever commences when it gets dark. Be sure to stop at ThomasYard flowers, gifts and wine right there on River Street and tell owners Shelagh and Franz that Mom sent you!

My granny Emma Jean used to live in the green house right up from M&M before she passed away. Most of my family live in Tucker Co. I love Thomas sooooo much.

I know a lot of folks who might travel from Thomas, WV to Santa Barbara, CA but not vice-versa. Nevertheless, glad you made it to WV; something about the Wv culture where folks are more pleasant to deal with than CA. I know, I lived in both places. Cost of living might have something to do with it. Folks get grouchy when their broke.
