Shay Mary is interesting that odin always prefered thor, but actually loki is much more like him in character , smart, really bad at dealing with emotions, makes a lot of nistakes with the people they love, stubborn but also good at strategy , even hela in ragnarok notices it when she says thor doesn't look like odin but loki does sounds like odin. on the other side thor is more like his mother in character, kind ,caring, protective, and despite what he says he really never stoped caring about his brother. but at the same time thor has the battle strenght and agresivness odin used to have in his younger days while loki in battle is more agil and uses daggers and magic like frigga

I'm somehow pissed right now. This changes EVERYTHING in the movie! From our point of view, Loki just suddenly appeared on the throne after getting rid of his brother and semi-killing his father, his mother isn't even mentioned. When he ACUTUALLY just got his brother, who's been a selfish, war-hungry, stupid jerk for a millenium or something (which some people seem to forget) to NOT wipe out an entire race - which he definitely would have done at some point even if Loki didn't let three of them get into Asgard - found out that his entire life, his entire history was a lie, was overwhelmed with guilt when Odin fell into the odinsleep (and he wasn't faking it, there was noone in the room, why on earth should he fake his reaction if nobody would notice, he was almost crying), had a really emotional, deep talk with his mother, was OFFERED the throne instead of just taking it out of nowhere, as if he planned to do it exactly this way (which is not possible, again, Odin's condition was an accident) and HESITATED before taking it, making sure he had the support of his mother and his people, before daring to carefully take the scepter. I think he was surprised as hell that he was actually made king, despite him being a frost giant. Why do they always cut out the deep scenes? And the scenes with Frigga, too? I love her! This is just as stupid as cutting out the scene of Loki creating an illusion in which he is made king and everyone loves and trusts him. Gah!
@MultiDocdoom
@MultiDocdoom 8 лет назад
I love it cause hes just shocked and before he even takes his sceptor you can see his eyes are just begging to say "What? Why?" and thats why his mom had to explain. Even then he took the sceptor with hesitation. Loki never wanted the throne. Just the truth.

Everyone just went straight to kissing Thor's ass, to the point that in their minds, the only way Loki could ever get the throne was by stealing it through underhanded means. Noone (except Frigga) even respected Loki. Thor tells him to "know his place" and repeatedly mocks him (calling his magic mere "tricks", though to be fair, MCU Loki's magic is so shit that he has a point). Servants laugh at him. Sif tried to blatantly assault him on the throne just because he didn't want to listen to them DEMANDING him to bring Thor back (she was held back by Fandral). The Warriors Four (and Heimdall) commit blatant treason just because they don't respect Loki at all and immediately assume the worst of him.

Sara Quasimodo i don't know what to tell you, he looked quite surprised, maybe it was an act, or maybe he actually thought that odin had made sure that he would never be in the throne of asgard and that with thor banished, frigga would lead as regent queen while odin slept, in fact i wouldn't be surprised odin had actually planned that but frigga had decided to let the throne in loki's hands while odin was out as an atempt to show him that no matter what he just discovered he was still a part of that family and that she and odin ( even if in reality is only frigga) do trust loki to be in the king of asgard. that would also make sense because frigga's expression and words seem to be saying " you are are our son no matter what and i see you as worthy as your brother" besides while loki was or acted surprised, frigga wasn't, she looked like she had been expecting it. and it is logical thag if the king is out and the first son is not avaible, the second son would take te lead so why would loki need to act surprised, like he wasn't expecting it when it was the most logical thing to happen acording to the laws?

I wish they hadn't cut this...it's a very powerful scene, and Hiddleston is brilliant. He goes from afraid that he's been busted to genuinely perplexed to proud and satisfied in less than a minute, and without saying a word. Besides, this actually explains some plot holes and confirms that he was actually telling the truth when he said that he didn't plan to be king, which is something unusual for Loki XD.

They probably cut it because it would have given Loki more credibility to the audience. Based on many of the deleted/extended scenes from the first movie they (Marvel) really had to attempt to make Loki look bad, more scheming. To bad it failed.
@nessyness5447
@nessyness5447 6 лет назад
well he wanted to stop thor's coronation and prove thor was too inmature to be king. he didn't expect it would get as far as thor being banished, also he didn't expect discovering he was adopted and a frost giant and he didn't expect odin going into the sleep. and is not really that unusual, i have a feeling the outcome of tge chitauri invasion was a lot more destructive than his original intention, just see that moment when thot says is madness and that they can still stop it and loki says is too late and a tear falls down his cheek. i'm really not sure if loki really plans so much ahead or he is just extremely good at fast thinking and at improvising and adapting to any situation to always get the uper hand

Ofc, they were princes so being equal means he wanted to show he is worthy enough to rule. Loki was growing in Thor's shadow and that's true. Loki wanted to be appreciated and show his worth and gaining power was just a tool to do so.

Tiger Um, ur the dummy. See Loki has had different motivations, in his various incarnations. And he's not even been the villain in every comic; there has even been a few incarnations of Loki being the hero, and even worthy of wielding Mjolnir. Now, in some incarnations of Loki in the *COMICS* he wanted the throne, but in the MCU, Loki never wanted the throne. He just wanted to be Thor's equal, and the movie's story totally proved that.

In my humble opinion, this very moment when he take the scepter in hands, was Loki's turning point. I do sincerely believe he never wanted the throne, as he even says later on. But after having the tiny sense of power, especially for him that was never treated properly by his own "friends", got his mind falling slowly into madness, thus leading him to became the creature he is now. It's so interesting to see that in many ways, Loki do really resemble to various Shakespearean characters

I now understand why Tom always defends Loki so fiercely during interviews. He did not pour his heart and soul into a 2D villain! Its tragic that he has to explain what he portrayed so perfectly. I think someone in editing was thinking "well sht, nobody will ever be against him if they understand where he's coming from. Nope. Cliche badguy out for power. That's easy to understand." Tom ruined the takes by being too good an actor!

Exactly. It's nice to see more and more people finally figuring out that Loki isn't that bad at all. I feel like Marvel just wants Loki to be the worst. I have a feeling that nobody ever told Tom to portray Loki in pain, he himself did that so people would notice, because Marvel doesn't aknowledge Loki's pain. Laney Penn True. Everything just spiraled out of control. Loki only intended to expose Thor as the unworthy douche he was. He never intended for Thor to immediately disregard Odin's explicit command to NOT go to Jotunheim (thus committing treason), he (probably) did not expect Thor's merry band of ass-kissers (Sif and the Warriors Three) to just go along with that stupid idea, he did not expect that guard to be so slow to inform Odin of what was happening, he (probably) also did not expect Heimdall to just let them through (Heimdall was basically the last hope of them NOT reaching Jotunheim) and thus also commit treason (or just be incompetent or negligent). And then they end up in Jotunheim, where Thor utterly disrespects Loki (telling him "know his place" just because he dared try to get them safely back to Asgard), eventually leading to Loki discovering his heritage, Thor being banished and Odin falling into the Odinsleep (none of which he expected). Then the Ass-kissers Four immediately try to tell him to first request that Odin allow Thor to return, then when Loki is king try to request that he bring Thor back and disregard Odin's last order. Then they (and Heimdall) immediate commit treason AGAIN by disobeying direct orders from Loki (who, let me remind you/us, is legally, rightfully and legitimately the king of Asgard at the time). Which, by the way, none of them were even punished for committing treason TWICE, against two different kings (Odin and Loki). I'm not saying that Loki is innocent, but this movie bothered me a lot.

@@RGA301092 ...I'm going to be looking for this as I watch the movie for the first time. It did seem weird to me when I encountered the idea -- probably in a fanfic? -- where Loki justifies some of his actions with "I got on the throne and the first thing that happens is five of my subjects (including one of the most crucial, Heimdall) betray me. I'm at the helm of the kingdom during a coming war and I can't even lead the army because the second one of the frost giants touches my skin I'll be revealed and my people will turn their spears against me. I have to find a way to defend my home and definitively stop the oncoming threat without going near the giants directly or needing help from any other person because *I can't trust a single one of my subjects* -- oh, and if Thor happens to come back, everything is going to just get *exponentially worse* . If anyone noticed, when the guards came in and the dude with the staff knelt down to hand him the 'crown', Loki looked completely fearful like a child and turned to see his mother for comfort. He never wanted the throne, he even said so in the end but everything Odin and Thor did was to push him over the edge. I understood that leaving this out the movie was so that the audiences could side with Thor since it's his movie but honestly I think that it should have been kept if they planned on letting Loki be portrayed as misunderstood. Tom Hiddleston did a remarkable job with his expressions. I'm in awe of his performance~

Weeeeeeell technically cutting the scene means it no longer exists in movie-verse. And they probably cut it because he is SUPPOSED to be an asshole; he is the villain after all.

Mewtata not necessarily, a deleted scene is only really disregarded when the film or it's sequels give contradicting information. Given how in the first movie they played sad music when Loki was trying to justify himself to Odin i would say that the film makers wanted you (the audience) to feel some sympathy for Loki, if not simply how the situation have unfolded.

Loki didn't cause Thor being banished, it was all Thor being a-hole and causing Odin being even bigger a-hole and banished him. He didn't want to harm Odin or bring him into Odin sleep, he was shock and angry knowing he was adopted and a frost giant, yet Odin chose this very moment to sleep. Loki was worried and confused too when Odin suddenly collapse, he was calling the guard to help him, remember? All he did wrong was showing the frost giant a way to Asgard and ruined Thor crowning moment, because he knows how much of an a-hole his brother was He didn't have any grand plan to taking over Asgard throne at this moment, this scene proof that. Because the king was 'asleep', the crown price was banished, so the other prince should take the throne, it was legal and make sense. But they chose to cut off this scene and tried to make us thinking that it was all Loki's evil plan

And even then, Loki still believed that Thor could be a good king one day...just not now. He even tells Laufey he sabotaged the coronation to "ruin Thor's big day, and protect the realm from his idiotic rule a while longer". Not permanently, just a while longer until Thor got his shit together.

They didn't know Loki would be so loved by the audience, giving too much screentime to the villain doesn't make sense in a Thor "origin story". However, I think that's where they went wrong, we never wanted just an origin story, we want a full story, a story of this family, of the older brother maturing and the younger brother falling.
@YZee-ij1uv
@YZee-ij1uv Год назад
Yep, completely agree. It's as if they didn't want two competing, fleshed-out arcs, so they diminished Loki's to promote Thor's, which is such a shame. One, because they can both sit together and enhance the film by doing so, and two, because the reasons for Loki's downward spiral are more interesting than the reasons for Thor's upward spiral (particularly when, instead of centring those reasons on his banishment or his inability to wield Mjolnir, they reduce it (in Loki's view, at least) to 'he met a woman and decided not to be a jerk any more'.)

I also like to think she would be /allowed/ to rule Asgard and the place isn't misogynist and fucked up but she just doesn't want to get involved because she's all about peace and love and her family and shit. I love this comment, though Frigga is one hell of a fighter and (I believe) is a former goddess/watcher of death/war, she's a total badass for sure (did you see her in Avengers Academy?! She's a tiny angry cute little badass mommy). I think she wanted to be with her husband every second, I don't think that the succession line is misogynistic at all after all they are the Viking Gods and the Vikings were actually quite equal in the area of women's rights for the most part. The way he death went down has always seemed odd to me. Why would the woman who canonically taught Loki all of his trickery make a copy of a human girl and not protect herself when she would be in harms way, not Jane? It felt like, if she can do it for Jane, why not keep herself out of the line of fire? Also, she had this moment of ultimate badassery then got killed so unceremoniously it's disturbing. This character has so much potential, why cant Marvel use it?!

Why does Marvel keep deleting this scene? They would have made the movie so much greater and Loki's actions onwards much more meaningful. He didn't force himself onto the throne, it was literally thrust into his hands! And the look he looks at his mother, he knew he was next on sucession but being mock and put down by everyone but Frigga all of his life he didn't really expect them to follow protocol.

Why on Earth did the delete all this? This scene underlines so well why he never stopped trusting Frigga even though she kept the same secret as Odin. This scene is another catalyst to him attacking Jotunheim. He wanted to make Odin proud through the only thing he thought Odin cared about, the only thing Thor did better than him till this moment: the bloodthirsty warrior. Instead of understanding him, Odin reacted by being disappointed in him and trying to punish him. Odin truly was a horrible father even though he did love Loki. You call tell when they proclaim him king that it was a shock- for him it was never about ruling Asgard.

All at once his internal monolog went from "We are having a great moment here without the distraction of Thor and (for now Odin). I love my mommy and look forward to my Daddy getting better" to, all at once: "Even now, as Thor has more than earned his banishment, you should hold out hope for some secret plan of Odin's for the prodigal son to return and take to what now I have rightfully attained?" It was a touching and heartbreaking moment. Great actors here.

In one way, I understand they needed to cut this for time, because there was a lot they needed to cut which showed more of Loki's character. However, I think this scene has an absolutely vital element in understanding what in the world he's doing in that movie, because here, you get to see that not only was he handed the throne - he did not take it, and did not even ask for it - but he's also surprised by it, shocked by it, even. This was never a part of his plan. Watching the movies, you're never sure what he's doing, but you automatically end up assuming he was just going for the throne from the very beginning. Here you see that in the beginning of the movie, HIM sitting on the throne of Asgard was not anythign he could ever imagine happening, so he didn't aim for it, either.

I do agree this scene should've been kept in the final movie. Frigga never got very many scenes, and Loki was clearly closer to her, given how Odin favored Thor more. And, yes. It did give us another, more softer side to Loki. And, on a personal note..the way Frigga explained how the line of successor now worked, kinda made it seem like she preferred Loki to be king. Just speculation, but..who knows?
