i am retired from printer repair where we used those ribbon cables a LOT i always carried deoxit but used a piece of paper with a little alcohol on it. it would clean and buff oxidation but left no trace no harm on those gold contracts. very informative video thank you

Ferocious dogs! 😄 I know what you mean about assumptions people make. I got that a lot when I was younger, and even now. I'm supposed to be a TV, computer, microwave, appliance e, OBD2, HVAC, network, security, EXPERT! 🤣

Dave, tip from my years in onsite service: when talking to the customer on the phone, ask him to secure any large breed dogs, or known aggressive breeds...chain them or put them in a room. Over 50% of owners will say "aw, he ain't gonna bite," or "he's a gentle breed." Dog owners are most often in denial about their dogs' propensity to bite, which can happen without provocation. If the owner persists in not understanding your request, simply tell him you can't service his equipment. I've had dog owners deny their dogs will bite, and have those "gentle pets" come after me. You don't want to have to go to the ER with flesh wounds from serious bites. If on the phone I sensed the owner has a lax attitude about his dog, or won't secure the animal...and he says the breed is a Pit, German Shepherd, Akita, Doberman, or Malinois....I'd simply refuse service. As you know, many rural residents are apt to have vicious breeds for whatever reason. A dog attack is no joking matter. Again, dog owners are often in complete denial.

In my experience the connections in electronic circuits have always been the weakest link. A pencil eraser clean on ribbon cable close connections and conductive carbon grease on single large connectors liable to oxidation is my preference.

I think you need to add a Fibreglass Pencil to your collection to non-abrasively clean contacts of debris/grime/mild oxidation to ensure good contact.
