Translation: it’s just ok. Compare his reaction to the one after Shang-Chi and that movie could have been 15 min short with Wong at the end and wouldn’t have made a difference.
It sounds like you're watching a reaction from someone who you don't share much in taste, which seems like a waste of time. People who like to waste their time do seem to like to be negative as well.
@@Evil_Peter it’s not that at all. I’ve been watching John since 2016 and I feel like he needs to keep the same enthusiasm and energy for each release because that’s his job. I think the reality is that the Marvel movies have had a big dip in quality since Endgame but the online movie reviewers kept the same level of excitement. I hope I was clear.
@@yahyarajaee5883 He isn't as positive about everything as he was for Shang-Chi, which he loved. As for the rest, you seem to confuse reality with your opinion. Don't speak objectively about subjective things. Any personal opinion on a film is valid, but we should never have to try to assert our own upon others.
"They lean more into the silly aspects" You don't fucking say. Taika? Leaning into SILLY? Undermining the sincerity of anything happening? Not allowing the audience to care about what's happening beyond just having a laugh? Noooo. Not fucking Taika.
Couldn't agree more. Don't understand why people think Taika is the second coming. He took a movie that was supposed to be a consequential and bold film about the end of the world and made it a silly, stakes free buddy comedy with a plot I couldn't care less about. They really just lost the sense of what to do with Thor and Hulk after the first Avengers film, and decided to boot them out for Civil War, a movie with actual stakes made by directors that understand tone and storytelling, and then they both got puked back out into the MCU in Ragnarok in an underwhelming fashion.
@@TheaterPup "Stakes" in concept. But in execution, the stakes were numbed by a very tongue-in-cheek and lackadaisical presentation. I was entertained by Ragnarok but I was frustrated that genuine tragedies, such as Odin's or the Warriors Three's deaths were handled so flippantly. Everything was a joke in the movie. The Russos had to come in during Infinity War to give us an actual, sincere moment with Thor to appreciate all he had lost. That one scene in IW was more genuine than all of Ragnarok and it was with a Raccoon.
spoilers for thor: jane sacrifices herself and dies, gorr dies, hercules is sent by zeus to kill thor, jane is welcomed by heimdall in valhalla (asgardian sky) gorr's daughter is resurrected due to jane's sacrifice... we have two heavens now(field of reeds from moon knight and valhalla from asgard) finally i miss the good old days marvel has become anime
I’m not surprised. Hemsworth always brings it when he plays Thor. And of course you have Taika Waititi directing. It’s a winning formula. It’s also nice to have one of the OG Avengers come back in their own movie.
Been saying I wasn't going to see the movie but Gorr really makes me want to see the movie. Once you said silly, I knew this movie wasn't going to be for me. Thanks for saving me some time and money.
you notice he makes no comment or compliment toward gorr the villian of the movie lol Gorr was basically the main character in the comics. Botched his character with the comedy
After watching endgame and the avengers series, most can only really expect this response. It means (in comparison) “it’s good, but not on THAT level”.
Great out of the theater reaction John, Waititi proves to be a filmmaker who is getting increased work and that’s why he’s one of the best filmmakers today
Kind of a strange comment.. Waititi gets a lot of work so that makes him one of the best filmmakers?.. having a lot of films doesn’t make you a great filmmaker, Tarantino has only made about 9 films in his career and he’s one of the best. But I do think Waititi is one of my current favourites so I like the praise anyway. I was hoping they’d tone down the silliness but it seems like they turned it up 😩
I’m expecting this movie to basically be a comedy lol MCU has a tendency to turn superheroes into comedians and I hate that. Hulk is another good example of that.
Ragnarok made Bruce Banner a bumbling idiot, I hated that. The best mcu movies have a good balance of action, drama and comedy. It just never works for me when they push the rest aside for the sake of comedy.
Nice to hear that its good, but man, am I the only one who is tired, when people say, that the credit scene is the best part of the movie? I watch a movie for the movie, not for the teaser of the next one😅
That's all Marvel is now. Shitty movie that relies on hype, then an end credits scene with some character that people have been wanting to see, which probably won't be in a movie for the next ten years (adam warlock)
This sounds exactly like any movie should strive to be, entertaining and memorable. Some movies go beyond that and that's how they become classics. I'm going to have to see this film for myself to decide if it's going to be great or not. So far all my trusted reactors seem to really enjoy the movie. Going in with controlled expectations but a decent amount of hype.
john, would you say this up there with the movies you have loved in phase 4 like Shang-chi? as opposed to movies you have only just liked such as eternals and M.O.M
It's gotta be something mainstreamers would like, given how big the reaction seems to be. People don't know who Bill is. My guess, as with others, is more fuckery with Loki.
you mention the mid-credit scene. being marvel I assume there is also an end credit scene, but you could confirm these things for people planning to go in your reviews. you could also include when to take toilet breaks for Erin, but that is optional lol.
I hated Ragnarok because there were so many jokes(among other reasons). So hearing this makes me slightly concerned because Taika tends to put comedy where there shouldn't be.
@@purplespark8 Agreed, another one of my gripes was the villain didn't make a lot of sense to me personally. Hela is in Norse mythology and in the comics the daughter of Loki and ruler of Nifflehiem, so she doesn't have the strength to break Mjolnir, which is where the film lost me.
wanna know the story of thor 4, thor gets dropped off at a rehab in the begining of the movie and reunites with korg, later he is visited by jane who received the power of thor after the torn pieces of mjolirin found her and she also has cancer now. While this is happening, knull is searching for the god eternity to resurrect his daughter and later receives the necrosword and starts killing other gods. So this made thor, jane and valkery to team up as they knew they wouldn't stand a chance against him individually. After this, they go to zeus to warn him but he is evil and crazy which made them team up against him(bear in mind that zeus is a skyfather level being, as strong as odin) and defeats him. So after this, they go to the dark realm to fight gorr and during their fight jane sacrifices herself by destroying the hammer which made gorr realise his mistake but dies as well. In the end, his daughter gets resurrected and sets on new adventures with thor. Post credit scene- zeus is all pissed off at thor and sends hercules to kill thor. (Beta bill doesnt appear in this movie).

I do think I'm going to enjoy it. I loved Thor: Ragnarok. However, I did not enjoy Shang-Chi and I remember your initial reaction to it lol. But your reaction is on point of what I was expecting. Edt after the movie: Yeah, I do not know how the mid credit scene is even on the same level as FFH J.K. Simmons cameo John. No shot. The movie was ok 3/5.
This video acts as an inherent microcosm of the disney marvel factory hypnotising their customers on and on like little capital-esque consumption rats fueling their revenue year in year out (mid credits scenes e.g being the little carrot on the stick), and the best bit is I still fkin succumb to consuming their media whilst being fully aware of what they’re doing shits still awesome
@@b.hemuth7363 you do realize that no one gave a shit about Thor until they made him more comedic? Thor Ragnarok is one of the most highly rated MCU movies while the other 2 Thor movies are some of the worst rated, sometimes changing the source material is a good thing, and it clearly worked for Thor, you're in the minority it seems
