Darcey's version of Mjölnir sounds so close to her saying "Meow, meow?" that I had to go to exact spot in the video a few times. I'd have to check out the English closed captions on my digital copy to be sure.
Hey, Addie! Thor was probably the trickiest character to translate but a critical character to make credible as Loki figures prominently in the Avengers' future. The approach to Thor early in the saga is a pseudo-Shakespearean representation as opposed to the more comedic interpretation of the later films. I much prefer serious Thor as he is much more comic book-authentic. I think "Thor" succeeds on every level and it is my favorite Phase 1 film! In the comics, Thor is the actual Norse God of Thunder but, in the MCU, he is a long-lived alien from planet Asgard whose people have been to Midgard (Earth) and thought of as gods. Marvel's Thor was created in 1962 by writer Stan Lee and penciler Jack Kirby and was the lead feature in the anthology title "Journey into Mystery" until getting his own title. Lee needed someone who could hold his own against the Hulk. Since Hulk is the strongest there is, only a god would do. Comic readers were already familiar with the Greco-Roman pantheon which is practically the basis for the Justice League at DC so Lee decided to go Norse. Lee and Kirby were both familiar with Norse mythology and liked the Viking aesthetic so they ran with it. The sword and sorcery element was new to Marvel with Lee's plots and Kirby's drawings sweeping readers into cosmic high adventure balanced by Earthly concerns when Thor assumed his mortal guise of the crippled Dr. Donald Blake whose walking stick would transform into the hammer Mjolnir when struck hard against the ground. It was hotly debated for 76 issues whether Blake was a human who found the magic walking stick that filled him with Thor's spirit or if Thor was pretending to be a man when the matter was finally put to rest in issue 159 which is the basis for this film. To teach his arrogant son humility, Odin cast Thor out of Asgard to live as an infirm human with no memory of godhood but he unknowingly passes his father's test by becoming a compassionate doctor. His memory restored, Thor casts off the Blake identity and becomes Thor again full-time. The plot element of Loki being a Frost-Giant foundling adopted by Odin is from the gorgeous third volume of Thor written by J. Michael Straczynski, illustrated by Olivier Coipel and published in the 2000s. It is widely agreed that the 45-issues written and drawn by Walt Simonson in the '80's is gold standard "Thor" and essential reading since Simonson mined proper Norse mythology to plot his run on the book. All three key creators appear in cameos in the film. There is an element pulled from another version of Thor that plays a role in this movie. Marvel created a secondary universe in 2000 called the Ultimate Universe in order to boost readership by providing access to familiar characters without having to learn 40 years of back story. The MCU draws upon many Ultimate Universe details such as having an African-American rather than an Italian-American Nick Fury. Ultimate Thor is never believed to be a god and is thought of as insane which is how he is first received by everyone in the movie. Kenneth Branagh was an inspired choice of director as he is known for his many Shakespeare productions and passion for the Bard. He infused the proceedings with gravitas that elevated the material and the characters echo of Prince Hal, Falstaff, Iago and Lear. The production design beautifully blends the divine, the medieval and the futuristic with Asgard's golden spires evoking heavenly Valhalla, the world's disc-like shape evoking a flat Earth of the Middle Ages and Heimdall's observatory evoking alien supertech that stabilizes wormholes accurately referred to as Einstein-Rosen bridges. The Bifrost itself isn't a rainbow but a crystal construct that shimmers prismatically. The Worlds Tree Yggdrasil is just a graphical representation of the nine planets accessible through the Asgardian wormhole. Although classified as planets in the film, they remain the Nine Realms of Norse myth which include Asgard, realm of the gods, Vanaheim, a fantasy realm of demi-gods, Midgard, home of humankind, Alfheim, home of the Elves, Svartalfheim, home of the Dark Elves, Jotunheim, home of the Frost-Giants, Nidavellir, home of the Dwarves, Muspelheim, the fiery realm of the demon Surtur and Niflheim, the icy realm of the Dead. The cast is phenomenal! Chris Hemsworth was in contention with his brother Liam for the part and won it. He carries the character easily in both dramatic and comedic situations and it has become his signature role. Tom Hiddleston's casting as Loki was equally important because his role going forward in the saga would be crucial and his villainy would be layered. Branagh had worked with him before on the "Wallander" TV series and recommended him. Hiddleston owns the part and is a sheer delight; a relatable villain you simultaneously root for and hate! Anthony Hopkins is magnificent as Odin and he radiates majesty. The scene where he strips Thor of his power was completely ad-libbed and left the other actors shaken! Natalie Portman as Jane Foster was changed from a physician in the comics to an astrophysicist in the film but she always exudes intelligence and was credible. She and Hemsworth have great chemistry and their lust is palpable! Fine support is lent by Colm Feore as the sinister Laufey, Rene Russo as the nurturing Frigga, Idris Elba as the wise Heimdall, Stellan Skarsgard as the awestruck Dr. Erik Selvig, Kat Dennings as the snarky Darcy Lewis and Clark Gregg as the unflappable Son of Coul, Agent Phil Coulson. The comic-accurate Warriors Three are on hand as well with Ray Stevenson as burly Volstagg, Tadanobu Asano as grim Hogun, Josh Dallas as dashing Fandral and Jaimie Alexander as bold Lady Sif. Jeremy Renner makes his first appearance as Clint Barton aka Hawkeye, Maximiliano Hernandez makes his first movie appearance as Agent Jasper Sitwell and Samuel L. Jackson's Col. Nick Fury pops in with the Tesseract. TRIVIA: 1. Mjolnir, the name of Thor's hammer which Darcy finds unpronounceable, translates as "Grinder" in English. In the comics, it is made from uru metal or the super-dense solidified molten core of a neutron star. As stars collapse upon themselves prior to going supernova, the cores become super-dense which accounts for Mjolnir's great weight. Only Odin's enchantment makes it portable by a pure soul. 2. The New Mexico town is a set that was modernized after its previous use as a Western town in Lawrence Kasdan's "Silverado" in 1985! 3. The events of "Iron Man 2", "The Incredible Hulk" and "Thor" all occur during one week in MCU-time called Fury's Big Week! EASTER EGGS: 1. Odin's pet ravens Huginn (Thought) and Muninn (Memory) alight on his throne during the coronation. The ravens are Odin's eyes and ears in his kingdom. 2. Odin arrives on Jotunheim to rescue Thor and company astride his eight-legged horse Sleipnir! 3. Odin's treasure room contains the Tuning Fork, the Tablet of Life and Time, the Warlock's Eye, the Eternal Flame, the Casket of Ancient Winters and a mock Infinity Gauntlet! 4. The name tag and false ID given to Thor bear the name of his comic book alter-ego Donald Blake! 5. A sign advertising New Mexico tourism says 'Journey into Mystery' which was the title of the comic in which Thor debuted! 6. The 10th-century Norwegian village assaulted by the Frost-Giants in flashback is Tonsberg which is featured in the World War II setting of "The First Avenger". 7. The colleague Selvig refers to who was studying gamma radiation can only be Bruce Banner! CAMEOS: The three seminal writers of Thor appear in cameo! 1. Stan Lee is the pick-up driver who tries to wrench the hammer free with his truck only to lose the flatbed. 2. Walter Simonson is seen in Asgard at the closing celebratory banquet between Sif and Volstagg. 3. J. Michael Straczynski is the first local seen in close-up trying to pull the hammer out of the crater. END-CREDIT SCENE: 1. Nick Fury presents the Tesseract to Dr. Selvig for study at Project Pegasus. If you see the movies chronologically, this is the third time it appears. If you see the movies in release order, this is your first glimpse of this artifact. The next chronological stop in the MCU are the framing scenes of "Captain America: The First Avenger" which take place in 2011.
Something he FEELS he has never received. He certainly had some approval (except when acting out) and he had his share of Odin's favor. Thor had more of both but he wasn't a problem child. Cliché younger son.
This movie has held up really well in my opinion. It has a great Shakespearean feeling to the story, which makes sense given the origins of the Thor character as well as the fact that stage actor Kenneth Branagh is the movie's director.
Kenneth is Skakespearan trained actor having studied at the Royal Shakespeare Academy. His shakespeare movies are great. I remember watching and studying his Hamlet movie in 12th grade English . It follwed the Hamlet screenplay exactly just the settings changed from 1400's Denmark to 1800's Denmark. Seriously great movie.
Thor is still the best Thor movie for me I love that even though the story is about gods the core story is about the relationship between 2 brothers and fathers and sons
Alexander Skarsgard’s could’ve been also good because he is a better actor than Hemsworth but only if they keep Thor serious, if not then Hemsworth because he is better at comedy but Skarsgard’s is a better actor and has more range.

Maybe I had the same conversation on two different videos (entirely possible, lol) and someone already corrected me on the other one. Ok, 1500 yrs old. My point was that he is a fairly big guy, in extremely good physical condition, and probably has WAY more fighting experience than anyone on this planet. Even without his powers, he'd be a tough match up for anyone.
Asgardians are naturally very strong compared to humans, but some are stronger than others. Thor is one of the strongest even without his extra powers.
You didn’t include it in the edit, but the bit just before Odin banishes Thor, where Loki starts to say something and Odin turns and growls at him, was completely ad-libbed by Anthony Hopkins. That wasn’t Loki stepping back in surprise, it was Tom Hiddleston. (Just like the ad-libbed moment in Silence of the Lambs when he scared the heck out of Jodie Foster.)
Anthony Hopkins is amazing and I loved it when I found out that scene was ad-libbed on the spot. No wonder they kept it in. So what was the Silence of the Lambs ad-lib? It has been quite a while since I have seen that movie. (sorry to change the subject everyone)
The "son of Coul" line his hilarious because his name is Agent Coulson. And in Thor's culture they do last names by putting their fathers name first then the word "son". Thor "Odinson" is because his father's name is Odin and that makes Thor "Odins Son". So Thor sees agent Coulson and thinks he is the son of Could lmao.
I love this movie very much. Loki is always the highlight here, seeing his evolution in just one movie. He starts out causing minor mischief, letting a few Frost Giants in and knowing they wouldn't do any real damage due to the Destroyer Armor, he was jealous of Thor but he wasn't actively doing harmful things to him. If anything, he even advises Thor to do the right thing and not chase after the Frost Giants. He still is helping his brother when it comes to the decisions that really matter. However, he soon finds out he's a Frost Giant, and Thor is sent to Earth. He realizes all at once that not only was he fated to never get the throne (which he blames Odin for) but also that the only thing standing in his way to the throne (Thor) was just taken out of the picture. It's now in his best interest to keep Thor on Earth so he can remain King, and it's likely Odin would have stayed in the Odinsleep anyway. It's at this point that he starts lying to pretty much everyone involved, hurting Thor deeply. But once the Asgardian Friends go to Earth to bring Thor home, he panics. He knows that Thor will get the throne if he returns, so he goes to the Frost Giants and lures them to Asgard. This way, he can kill their king right as Odin is about to truly die, which would make him a hero in the eyes of the people. And to reinforce this, it would be a very good look if he destroyed the entire race of Frost Giants, putting a stop to the people who were about to assassinate Odin. He fails to see though, that this completely reverses the roles between him and Thor. Instead of being the voice of reason, keeping Thor away from attacking the Frost Giants, it's the opposite. This truly proves that Thor has become worthy, while Loki has strayed further away just as Thor did at the beginning.
I guess it depends on if you believe that Loki manipulated Thor to go to Jotunheim in the first place. He said to him "You can't do anything about it without defying father", potentially putting the idea in his head.
@ But Thor was already hellbent on "showing those uppity Jotuns" at that point. Loki was actively warning Thor not to defy Odin and break the peace contract, but Thor didn't listen. If you watch the deleted scenes, when Thor and his buddies and Loki leave the palace to ride to the Rainbow Bridge, it was Loki who briefly stepped aside and told one of the palace guards to inform Odin what Thor was doing. _That_ is why Odin teleported to Jotunheim just in time to save Thor and his gang when they were surrounded by Frost Giants. Loki later reveals to Thor that him smuggling two Frost Giants into Asgard was merely meant as a "prank", as he knew they would never managed to actually steal the Casket of Eternal Winter (which Odin had taken from them during the Aesir-Jotun war thousands of years ago) which they wanted to return to Jotunheim to save it... as the realm of Jotunheim is slowly dying and breaking apart without that source of frost. There were so many important Loki scenes shortened or cut entirely from the theatrical release of the movie, and some scenes edited into a different sequence which changed how Loki's decision making was presented to the audience, it's painful to see all that content and context removed. Like Loki's brotherly banter with Thor at the start of the movie, or his discussions with his mother at Odins bed, including that Frigga knew all the time Loki had frost giant blood.[*] *Or the fact that **_Loki was legitimately crowned King of Asgard on advice of Frigga!_** He wasn't lying when he told Thor later that he, Loki, was the legitimate king! Frigga and the high priests of Asgard decided that Loki needed to ascend the throne while Odin was asleep and Thor was exiled, so that Asgard wasn't ruler-less while the Frost Giants were gearing up to attack Asgard in retaliation for Thor breaking the peace contract.* As Loki couldn't have planned for Odin to exile Thor or for Odin to suddenly keel over and go into Odin-sleep (unless you believe Loki the "mastermind" had ridiculous control over everything and everyone's minds, which... no he didn't), the Loki we see in the first Thor movie certainly didn't run a complicated plan just to get crowned. But the coronation scene was cut entirely, for the most idiotic reason (as stated in the directors' commentary): The directors wanted a big "reveal" that Loki was sitting on the throne, so the audience wasn't supposed to find out until the same time when Thor's buddies find out. (groan) The priests come into Odin's chambers while Frigga and Loki are there and present Loki with the sceptre of office (Odin's spear), and _Loki is completely flabberghasted_ by it. He clearly _did not_ expect that! In fact, when the doors open and a group of armed guards march in along with the priests, Loki startles and looks _scared,_ clearly thinking they're here to kill him for being a frost giant! Then they kneel and hand him the spear, and Loki takes it but looks at Frigga, confused. Frigga nods and tells him, "Make me proud, my son.", a line that later echoes in _Thor 2_ when Loki in brought before Odin in chains and he sarcastically asks Frigga, "Did I make you proud, mother?" But since the coronation scene was cut entirely, this reference is lost. Likewise, the original sequence was, Loki discusses Thor's exile with Frigga, with Frigga supporting Odin's decision to keep Thor on Earth/Midgard! Then Loki gets crowned with Frigga's blessing. Then Thor's dumb buddies march into the throne room and demand Loki defy Odin's decision and bring Thor back! Loki refuses. They throw a big huff and convince Heimdall to illegally send them to Earth. Only _then_ does Loki sent the Destroyer after them. In the theatrical cut, scenes are shortened and reshuffled so it appears Loki was already plotting to sent the Destroyer to Earth to have him murder Thor _prior_ to the Warriors Three and Sif going to Earth. FOOTNOTE: [*] There's also Frigga constantly calling herself Loki's _mother,_ not just "adoptive mother", which she does again in _Thor 2 The Dark World,_ implying that Frigga _is_ his bio-mother and he is half-Jotun which would explain why 1. he was so small as a baby, 2. doesn't look like a normal Jotun even in his blue-skinned form, 3. why the frost giant king was disappointed and left the baby to die, 4. how Odin knew exactly where the baby was and would be willing to adopt an apparently random frost giant baby, 5. why Odin thought Loki might serve as a "bridge" between the Aesir and Jotun to bring lasting peace as he could unite their thrones... something which only makes sense if Loki _is_ half-Aesir and not a full Jotun!

In Norse mythology, there were several frost giants that had illusion powers. Not all of them, certainly. The majority were pretty much just big, strong, barbarians. But a few were clever and subtle, and had a certain talent for illusion magic. There was even the occasional good and wise frost giant.
Bear in mind that Thor is 1,500 years old and has been training as a warrior, and to be the future king of Asgard, for almost all of that time. He is also a very large boy. Also, the Asgardians have natural strengths and powers beyond that of the normal human. They are virtually immortal. So yes, he does have powers, even without the power of Thor.
Kat Dennings as Darcy is really underappreciated, IMO. Knowing the comic books, I know they've only skimmed the surface of the mythology of The Destroyer. (A Stan Lee/Jack Kirby creation, not from the Norse legends.). But I still think they made effective use of it here. "They're really tall." (Beat) "Oh, right, they're giants." :)

When originally casting Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Joss Whedon was asked if he needed to cast any more villains for the first Avengers movie. Joss replied, nope, Hiddleston is all I need.
I've always liked this movie, although a later Thor movie takes the cake as the best (IMHO). This was a really great introduction and as for Loki...there's really no way to explain his motives or actions. When it comes to him anything goes and he's not predictable. Great villain though. And the next 2 reactions are going to be really entertaining, I think.

Marvel's Asgardians are based off of Norse mythology, so there are a lot of cool paralells for mythology nerds like me. Except in the MCU, Thor's weaknesses are tasers and THOR-azine :P haha. In the comics, Thor's alternate identity was Dr. Donald Blake, who when he takes up the hammer Mjolnir, transforms into the Mighty Thor Loki is the god of mischief in reality, and is Thor's uncle, not his brother. He and the giantess Angrboda had 3 children together: Hela, the ruler of Hel where the dishonored dead reside; Fenrir, largest and most terrible of all wolves, taking extreme magical means to chain him (causing the god Tyr to lose his hand in the process); and the World Serpent, Jormungandr, who encircles the earth in the sea, biting his own tail until Ragnarok, the end time, comes. He also fathered Odin's 8-legged steed Sleipnir. In the lore he eventually is captured and tried for his crimes, sentenced to be chained to a rock with a serpent dripping venom into his eyes for all eternity. Thor the Thunderer is a very brash, thrill-seeking god. One day he decided to travel to Utgard, a stronghold of the jotuns, because he felt like challenging the giants to contests. His hammer, Mjolnir the Mullicrusher, was forged by the dwarves Eitri and Brokkr, enchanted to always return to his hand when thrown, although a mistake during it's manufacture resulted in a shorter than normal handle. They also made for him the meginjordr (the Belt of Giant Strength), and Jarngreipr, his iron gauntlets that allowed him to wield Mjolnir without injury. Odin the Allfather was one of three brothers, who slew their great-grandfather Ymir (the father of all giants), and crafted the world from his body. Seeking knowledge, he sacrificed one of his eyes in Mimir's Well and hanged himself upon the World Tree, Yggdrasil, in order to see other worlds and gain knowledge of the runes. This is why he wears the eyepatch in the MCU. He wields Gungnir, the Spear of Fire, forged for him by the Dwarves, along with one of his most valuable pieces of jewelry; Draupnir, a ring that creates 8 duplicates of itself every ninth night. Heimdallr is the Watchman of the gods, standing guard at the rainbow bridge called Bifrost. His eyes see everything in all the worlds, and he is fated to blow the Gjallarhorn at the onset of Ragnarok, warning the gods of the arrival of all of their enemies.

Unlike most of the Marvel heroes, Thor and his family have been around for thousand years. They weren't created in the 1940s or 1960s. Odin is the king of the gods, Thor is god of thunder, Loki is god of mischief. Thursday is named for Thor "Thor's Day" and Friday is named for his mother, Frigga.
If you are going to be reacting to all the movies in the MCU then you will have to get used recognizing all the Stan Lee cameos since in this one he was the one driving the truck asking "Did it work?" because after all he was the guy that created most of these characters at Marvel Comics so he deserves the recognition for his achievements
The director is Kenneth Branagh, famous for his Shakespearean movies He added another level of theatricality. In fact, it's said that the first time Hopkins entered the throne room set in costume, he looked around and said "no acting is necessary." Both Thor & Loki go thru multilayered character arcs through several movies. There's a lot to unpack. Next up is Captain America: First Avenger.
And there's a very subtle reference to Pulp Fiction involving Sam Jackson on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but I can't say more than that without giving major spoilers.

The later movie _Thor 3 Ragnarök_ shows that Odin's line here 1:58 about "Asgard brought peace to the universe" is a bald-faced lie and historical revisionism, as War-God Odin erased the entire story of him and his daughter Hela conquering worlds from the books. And while the Frost Giants and the Aesir[*] _did_ have a big war thousands of years ago, around the time of the birth of Loki and Thor (as we see baby Loki was just born, and he and Thor are about the same age), they have a legitimate reason to want to retrieve the Casket of Endless Winter that Odin stole from them and return it to Jotunheim: Because without it, the realm of Jotunheim is slowly dying and falling apart. The movie even shows us this when Thor and his gang are there, but it's never explicitely stated so I guess many viewers didn't notice or understand. So when King Laufey calls Odin a "murderer and a thief", he is entirely correct. [*] Aesir being the proper name for what the movie calls "Asgardians"; in the Norse Edda the Aesir and Vanir "gods" who live in Asgard together (after hte Vanir came to Asgard as refugees) are both also technically tribes of "giants". In the Norse mythology, Hela the neutral goddess of the Underworld Niflheim was actually Loki daughter from Loki's tryst with a giantess (as Norse Loki was married to an Aesir woman Sigyn that Odin had given him in marriage). But Norse Loki isn't Odin's son (or adoptive son or whatever) and Thor's brother as he is in Marvel comics; he's a god who came "from across the sea" to Asgard and was accepted by Odin into their ranks. He learned magic from the magic-wielding Vanir. And became Thor's buddy, joining him on many adventures. Until he ran afoul of the other gods for mocking them at Heimdall's party he wasnt invited to (in the prose-poem _Lokasenna),_ bragging how he had slept with all their wives in their absence and the goddesses had liked it, and then Loki had to flee to Midgard, was found and bound to a rock with chains made from the entrails of his two Aesir sons the other gods murdered in front of Loki and his wife Sigyn. Sigyn opted to stay with Loki to catch the acidic poison dripping into his face from the fangs of a snake the gods had set above Loki's head. The whole "Loki maliciously caused Hödr to accidentally kill invulnerable-to-all-things Baldur the God of Light with a dart from mistletoe and then was exiled and bound to a rock, with chains that would only break when Ragnarök the Twilight of the Gods began" story? Yeah, that was 100% invented later by Christian chroniclers. Because, for a start, it makes zero sense. Not only does it conflict with the Lokasenna story, but if Baldur's death triggered Ragnarök, then the gods chaining up Loki _as reaction to Baldur's death_ with chains that would only break once Ragnarök starts is a bit pointless, is it not?
I so hated "the Warriors Three" and that single-expression bitch Sif in this movie, with their constantly treating Loki like shit for no real legitimate reason they know about, it's just "we don't trust him because", while Loki seems to have zero friends except for his mother he is devoted to. Sadly, their mistrust is presented as being totally deserved, even though the implication is their bullying of Loki has been going on for a long time and you wonder, "What came first?" We know Frigga taught Loki magic, something Thor never had a talent for and thus dismissed as "beneath a true warrior"... was it to give her son an edge because he wasn't as strong as those "jocks" who bullied him? I legit cheered when the Warriors Three got brutally and unceremoniously killed off by Hela in Thor 3. Good riddance. They'd been invented for the animated Tales of Asgard series so teen Thor could have a friends gang. Sadly, Sif was nowhere to be seen in Thor 3, so she may have survived Hela, although we don't see her in New Asgard on Earth either (neither in Avengers Endgame nor in Thor 4). It's like this even in the old Marvel _Thor_ comics from the 1960s (Thor the character first appeared in Journey into Mystery no. 83 in August 1962), in fact it's even worse in the old comics: blond beefy Thor is presented as the perfect dude-bro, while his dark-haired smaller brother Loki is always the fall-guy, constantly abused and accused whenever something goes wrong as he is "different". And once he snaps the comic's writers present him as the treacherous villain who was a bad apply all along, thus retroactively vindicating the actions of the other characters who treated him like crap. They just "knew" Loki would become a villain and thus bullying him from childhood was just giving him what he deserved ahead of time, or something. Bleh.
The theatrical cut of _Thor_ movie was badly butchered in the editing room, so it's important to check out the Deleted Scenes section. There were so many important Loki scenes shortened or cut entirely from the theatrical release of the movie, and some scenes edited into a different sequence which changed how Loki's decision making was presented to the audience, it's painful to see all that content and context removed. Like Loki's brotherly banter with Thor at the start of the movie, or his discussions with his mother at Odins bed, including that Frigga knew all the time Loki had frost giant blood [*], or that scene prior to the "riding across the rainbow bridge" scene which shows it was Loki who surrepticiously told a palace guard to inform Odin of Thor's plan to go to Jotunheim to start bashing Jotun heads in. *Or the fact that **_Loki was legitimately crowned King of Asgard on advice of Frigga!_** He wasn't lying when he told Thor later that he, Loki, was the legitimate king! Frigga and the high priests of Asgard decided that Loki needed to ascend the throne while Odin was asleep and Thor was exiled, so that Asgard wasn't ruler-less while the Frost Giants were gearing up to attack Asgard in retaliation for Thor breaking the peace contract.* As Loki couldn't have planned for Odin to exile Thor or for Odin to suddenly keel over and go into Odin-sleep (unless you believe Loki the "mastermind" had ridiculous control over everything and everyone's minds, which... no he didn't), the Loki we see in the first Thor movie certainly didn't run a complicated plan just to get crowned. But the coronation scene was cut entirely, for the most idiotic reason (as stated in the directors' commentary): The directors wanted a big "reveal" that Loki was sitting on the throne, so the audience wasn't supposed to find out until the same time when Thor's buddies find out. (groan) The priests come into Odin's chambers while Frigga and Loki are there and present Loki with the sceptre of office (Odin's spear), and _Loki is completely flabberghasted_ by it. He clearly _did not_ expect that! In fact, when the doors open and a group of armed guards march in along with the priests, Loki startles and looks _scared,_ clearly thinking they're here to kill him for being a frost giant! Then they kneel and hand him the spear, and Loki takes it but looks at Frigga, confused. Frigga nods and tells him, "Make me proud, my son.", a line that later echoes in _Thor 2_ when Loki in brought before Odin in chains and he sarcastically asks Frigga, "Did I make you proud, mother?" But since the coronation scene was cut entirely, this reference is lost. Likewise, the original sequence was, Loki discusses Thor's exile with Frigga, with Frigga supporting Odin's decision to keep Thor on Earth/Midgard! Then Loki gets crowned with Frigga's blessing. Then Thor's dumb buddies march into the throne room and demand Loki defy Odin's decision and bring Thor back! Loki refuses. They throw a big huff and convince Heimdall to illegally send them to Earth. Only _then_ does Loki sent the Destroyer after them. In the theatrical cut, scenes are shortened and reshuffled so it appears Loki was already plotting to sent the Destroyer to Earth to have him murder Thor _prior_ to the Warriors Three and Sif going to Earth. FOOTNOTE: [*] There's also Frigga constantly calling herself Loki's _mother,_ not just "adoptive mother", which she does again in _Thor 2 The Dark World,_ implying that Frigga _is_ his bio-mother and he is half-Jotun which would explain why 1. he was so small as a baby, 2. doesn't look like a normal Jotun even in his blue-skinned form, 3. why the frost giant king was disappointed and left the baby to die, 4. how Odin knew exactly where the baby was and would be willing to adopt an apparently random frost giant baby, 5. why Odin thought Loki might serve as a "bridge" between the Aesir and Jotun to bring lasting peace as he could unite their thrones... something which only makes sense if Loki _is_ half-Aesir and not a full Jotun!
You skipped a great scene where Jane & Darcy argue with Dr. Selvig about Thor and Darcy explains how advanced aliens could easily be taken for gods .. by primitive Vikings.
Marvel did a fantastic job presenting the universe step by step. Only retcon that bothers me is that here the “9 realms” seemed initially more like dimensions/universes with different laws of physics (Asgard for example is not a planet). Later they changed that discreetly.
Yes I agree with you on this one. The Nine Realms were like different planes of existence, like heaven and hell, or the various planes in D&D. Not somewhere you could just fly to in a space ship no matter how far or fast you traveled. Until the retcon when you actually could, therefor it is all part of our universe which makes no sense.

Ya gotta admit, if Loki hadn't pulled that stunt with Thor in the first place he probably never would've learned to be more mature and balanced for becoming king. Especially after since meeting that girl Jane Foster.
people call the Thor movies the weakest of the original Avengers line up, but it's my personal favourite. it might be that I am a bit partial, being that I am from the ancient Viking home of Scandinavia. (Just like Stellan Skarsgård, Erik Selvig)
Everything Loki does is trying to prove to Odin that he is the worthy son. Even killing his biological father Laufey, out of self-hatred for his frost giant heritage (a hatred for the "monstrous" frost giants instilled in him by Odin and Asgardian society).
Ah yes, the movie where Thor commits mass murder and attempted genocide on the Jotuns _and_ breaks the ancient non-aggression pact between the realms in revenge for the act of three(!) frost giants who killed two Asguardian guards in an attempt to retrieve a frost giant artifact that Odin stole from them, to revive their dying world, and then got atomized by the Destroyer. Sure, Loki smuggled them into Asgard, knowing they wouldnt get far. But let's put things into perspective here. It's like flying to a country and threatening its rightful leader and starting to bomb entire cities in response to three radicals from that country breaking into the vault of a private collector to steal something that belongs to their country anyway, and killing two security guards in the process. (And then get burned alive by some giant laser killer robot that guarded hte museum.)
It was cool to see Clint/ Hawkeye show up in this film, but I definitely wish he had more screen time in Phase 1 to showcase his skills lol. Hawkeye & Black Widow were often shit on by fans for being weaker than the other Avengers, but I've always loved their characters tbh - I love the bow & arrow as his signature weapon (especially w/ his trick arrows), & thought it was cool that he & Natasha were able to fight at the levels of Gods & monsters.
Addie, if I could request that you take a little care with your audio. Sometimes your mic levels jump way up when you get surprised or excited by something. A bit of compression or some reduction on the levels, or some other processing to just get rid of the high peaks in levels. My hearing will thank you. Cheers!
This film was still pretty good, but I wonder how amazing it could hv been if it had been done to the same standard as the rest of the MCU tbh. I feel like there was so much potential for these films & Asgard lol.
13:24 Odin wields the Odinforce, but must go into the Odinsleep once his reserves are expended. The Odinsleep is his time of greatest vulnerability, when he must place someone in charge as he re-gathers his energies. When he reawakens, Odin resumes his role as ruler. Thor's raid on the Frost Giants caused Odin to use a great show of force. It accelerated his need for the Odinsleep, which is why he collapsed while arguing with Loki. As you see throughout the movie, Odin still watches over the realms.

In classic norse mythology, Loki is a trickery god, pulling pranks to keep the other Asguardians on their toes, or causing problems for anyone who has it coming to them. Not being able to predict what he'll do next is his greatest asset. In the Marvel movies, his main superpower we see is illusions, mostly able to create duplicates of himself. But in truth, its his power of manipulation and planning you most need to watch out for. Thor is one of my favorite heroes, he starts out selfish and cruel, but very quickly you see he's actually a truly kind and loving goofball underneath it all. His violent tendencies are just him trying to protect the people he cares about. Learning how to temper his anger, and trust in others to protect themselves is a big theme for his character, and Chris Hemsworth does a brilliant job conveying Thor's journey to become worthy of the power of Thor. Keep up the marathon, its so much fun watching new viewers go on this ride.
The destoyer armor the only way to beet it is to find the person projecting there consciousness into it and take them out by that I mean kill them or something becouse it's armer that isn't worn.
