I really hope you read this Chris, I just wanted to let you know how much of an inspiration you've been to me and how much of a genius you are. Hey, next time you're dealing with the end grain of MDF, first mix up some regular PVA woodworking glue from bunnings with some water (about 50:50). Paint that on and let it dry. Then you can sand it smooth and prime for spray-painting. The glue/water mix soaks into and seals the MDF and raises the "grain" Once it is dry it is quite stable. Also works on Plaster :) Nice to see another Aussie doing stuff :)

Chris, a tip to stop the paint soaking into the cut edge of MDF is to paint the edge with watered down PVA glue before paint a 50-50 mix should do. This seals the edge and gives you a universal finish to the piece. Great vidoes by the way!

If you use a black primer, you can lightly dust on the silver spray paint to give a weathered effect

Hey Chris to fix the paint from absorbing into the cut sections of the mdf you can put a thin layer of super glue on it then sand. The paint will look as even as the rest of the piece after that.

You should check out art stores and look for something like Zap glue (one of many brands to pick from). It's superglue (Cyanoacrylate), comes in a big bottle, comes in different viscosity, and cost less overall. You should also grab Zap's Zip Kicker or a cyanoacrylate accelerator in general. I will say the metal aerosolized can of the kicker is not as helpful as just a little spritz bottle one. It all makes the glue cure instantly though and is amazing, it will cause crazing and some other funky things to happen on some plastics. I've always managed to be able to paint over it though.

Chris next time you do a broken rock base try cork. Broken, painted black and drybrushed it's super easy to make it look like rock.

I did a project where I put on the primer, that after two hours I put on the color. I guess primer on organic material takes less time to cure.
